Only the richest of the rich buy something like a $1,300 computer before playing with one first.
Ah, no. Not in this day and age.

Why is there so much hate for people who spend $1300 on a nice laptop?
I remember I spend $6300 on my first laptop...and, that was way back in 1996!
...and by the way, let's remember that the original MBA 13" had a whopping 80gb spinner, 2gb of RAM, was very controversial because it ditched the optical drive, and cost (IIRC) $1900 (maybe it was $1800? - a whole lot more than the rMB).

You're reminding me. I'm gonna ditch this idea and hunt down a mint 701c Thinkpad. Man was that a great machine (back around the same time). I don't remember what it cost - might have been close to that. What a keyboard!![]()
Was that the one that had the expandable keyboard?
They will be back some day. I see laptop screens eventually becoming 'rolled up' such that they could be stored (unwrapped when they were to be used). Then we'll need the expandable keyboard again.
I still have my $6300 Tecra 720CDT at work. It still works! It was the first laptop with a color 1024 x 768 TFT screen. It was amazing back then.
Would anyone order it before there were any reviews?
When will we see Apple begin advertising it on TV?
I think we will start seeing reviews at least a few days before sales and orders open on the 10th, but to answer your question, assuming I decide I'm really gong to buy one, yes, I would buy it before seeing reviews, in part because I've read enough to think that it's at least not a dud and in part because the return policy gives me 14 days of complete peace of mind.
I'm almost certainly buying one, but I'm going to wait a week for some reviews to come out. Also, I hope by then, some comparisons of the 1.1 vs 1.3GHz is available. I doubt there's much difference, but since I plan on keeping this guy around for a while, I want to future proof it just a little bit.
If they up the BTO price more than $150, no way I'm paying more than that. I would have a hard time swallowing $150. I would prefer no more than $100 upgrade for such a tiny jump in specs.
Also, I want to go into the store and see it in person to make sure the screen size is adequate. But i'm giddy with anticipation!
I think the reviews should be out before the 10th. I kind of thought we might be seeing them already, just one week away. I look forward to seeing benchmark scores that don't disappear!![]()
And far more importantly, don't appear, and then disappear, on April Fools' Day.![]()

I wasn't going to, but after thinking about it, I will. I'll get the 1.1 base model to try out for a while and see how it works for me. If it doesn't, then I'll return it and I'll either buy a BTO one (at B&H this time) or a new MBA, depending on what exactly I don't like.
The only 100% sure thing is, I'm upgrading my MBA.
(Although I think I'm purchasing one even if there are no review by April 10)
Why would you buy a BTO at B&H? Personally, I'm ordering the 1.3Ghz/512GB as soon as orders go up. No hesitation at all.
