I just called my store and she said they had them...and in the other thread people have already gone and bought them.

The person you spoke to lied.

Just found that out too. Oh well, sorry for spreading false information, but that is what I was told. Ordered my 15" base model today, can't wait to get it.

ps - How is this upgrade not enough? SR, LEDs, 2G ram standard, upgraded Video card and HD on the 17". The only thing they could have done more was 256-512 instead of 128-256 but 512 is unnecessary in many ways. Some people will never be happy.

It's just about perfect except for one major issue, and one minor:

Major-the hard drive isn't user replaceable, which pretty much means I can't buy it
Minor-It would be great if the higher models came with a single 2GB DIMM, so you could just throw a second DIMM in there for 4GB cheaply.

I just bought mine from the Buffalo location this morning.

Its sexy.

Ain't that the truth!?

Frankly, I think this is a GREAT Upgrade, exactly what I was looking for.

I've been waiting nearly 2 years for Santa Rosa and its finally here! Until now, I've been dealing with an old Athlon XP based desktop (with Ubuntu at least) and I can't wait to have a Mac again! Also, gettin my first iPod with that education store promotion.

I definitely want a loaded 15" MBP but I'm going to watch reports from you eager first owners to make sure that Apple has improved the manufacturing quality of these laptops. My ideal scenario will be to buy the last 15" MBP that ships with Tiger since I don't like to pay to be an OS beta tester either.

I will probably place my order in September.

Good luck one and all.

Shortly after a new OS release they will ship systems with both Tiger and Leopard discs.

Well, given that today was my 21st birthday and so I came into a sh*tload of money and as such should splurge out on this MBP asap, I have a few reservations:

1) A 250GB hard drive is great, but will the 4200rpm speed cripple the system (i.e., for games, photo editing, etc)?
2) Given that I am always moving, and wherever I live space is always very limited (damn London rents), a 1900x1200 resolution on a 17" screen is in theory great. It means I can be a bit happier about getting rid of my Dell 24" monitor. However, I fear it might be slightly too many pixels on a small screen, if that's possible?
3) Still not sure whether a 17" MBP is really that portable - lack of bags for it, etc
4) Wanna see some gaming/Handbrake benchmarks too

I think the 1900x1200 is only possible on an external display.

ME! :D

However, I won't be purchasing it until some time in July, as I only need it to begin college at the end of August. Who knows, maybe the long-rumored ultraportable will come along then and I'll have yet another option to consider.

Anyways, it seems like I'm on track to purchase the mid range MBP soon.

Retail store allowed us to return our 2 week old MBP 17" (with UPC cut out) with out charging us the 10% restocking fee ($259.) as long as we put it into a giftcard. Our "new and improved" MBP 17" has been ordered and we get a free nano too ! It would have been even better if our store carried it but they were expecting a shipment in 3 weeks... we couldn't wait.

I ordered the High end 15" and I'm super excited. Been waiting for this baby for a while now. :) :apple:

I'm definitely buying one. I've been saving for a year and selling stuff on eBay, so I've been waiting for this moment!

I'm having trouble deciding which one to get.

A big hard drive is important for me, but I am not sure if 4200rpm is fast enough. I'd also like either a 17" screen, or a 15" screen plus 20" cinema display. But to drive an external display I'd better go for the 256Mb version, and if I'm doing that I may as well fork out the extra and just get the 17"... hmmm...

I'm going to think about it for a few weeks, read these forums and see if WWDC come up with anything that may influence my choice.

does anyone think this update is similar to the last powerbook update: (new displays, etc) as a mini update to a larger one?

any thoughts that there is there a bigger update coming with Jaguar or do u think this is substantial enough to go buy now and be heartbroken in hopefully a MUCH later date? :)

Not really, the last PB update was very marginal, they simply brought down the CPU from the 17" to the 15" (and abolished the top/entry distinction on the 15") without even giving any GPU upgrades, and pushed it out as a revision.

Here we are getting quite a substantial deal, it is not like Apple is holding out on us in anything, we got the good CPUs, the good CPUs... the works.

I think you mean Leopard?

Jaguar = Mac OS X 10.2 :p
