I've had my 17" PowerBook for 3 and a half years.

The RAM has been upgraded to 2GB and a 100GB 7200rpm hard drive has been installed, as the original 80GB drive failed after three years use. It's been a fantastic machine having travelled with me all over the world wherever I've worked.

Once the updated MacBook Pro arrives I'll be buying one, so that I can wean my parents off *cough* Windows *cough* and show them the delights of OS X. Plus it'll make it easier for me to provide tech support for them. :D

I really like my Macbook, but the wireless dropout in Leopard drives me crazy. And I don't like the fact that the ports on the side are delicate and part of the logic board. I almost lost use of my headphone jack when I tripped on my headphone cord, but the Genius made a deal that if I bought applecare he'd replace the logic board. The screen also picks up dirt like not other.

However, I have like no other complaints. It's a great laptop for what I do.

Oh and, you know what? I like leopard's 3d dock. I read the reviews and the rants about the horrible dock, the illegible menu bar, the crappy stacks implementation, and was expecting that i'd be disabling the 3d dock and making the menu bar opaque on the first day. I didn't and still haven't. I have all my applications on a grid stack, it's just fantastic. I like the pseudo 3d effect. And I dont mind the menu bar (can you seriously not read what it says? Are you blind?).

You and I see eye to eye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hav a mbp revA, absolutely love it. I am still amazed how much apparent speed it has still retained when compared to the IBM i owned before this, which slowed to a crawl after just 1yr of operation.
I have another mac mini that i use as a leopard server, cant complain about the management tools offered there as well.
And I am one of the 3D dock, transparent menubar and stacks supporter as well...

I love my MBP, its over 3 months old, and is great. The only thing bad about it is I "upgraded" to leopard, and the OS is sometimes finicky, the mouse will lag and wake will be delayed. But that is not the MBP, it is the OS..hoping for them to fix it in 10.5.2.
One other thing that bothers me is it gets realllllly frickin hot.

What kind of mouse are you using? When I got a Logitech VX Revolution for my MB Pro, I had all kinds of problems with the computer having difficulty waking up. I quickly discovered the Logitech drivers are buggy, installed SteerMouse, and problem solved.

Well, 2 things need to happen for me to be happy with my MacBook.

First, MacBooks absolutely need a dedicated GPU. $1299 for a system with no dedicated GPU, when Windows PCs can be had for under $1000 with dedicated GPUs, 2-3GB of RAM, HD DVD drives, etc. is kind of ridiculous.

Secondly, I want my MacBook to last more than a few months without needing repairs!

My first MacBook lasted 5 months, but had a defective SuperDrive out of the box. After the case started discoloring and the plastic on the hinge started to separate, it was time to send it in. Then the repair depot (Flextronics) essentially destroyed the system. Made the SuperDrive worse, screwed up my mouse button and scratched the case.. TWICE!

That MacBook ended up being replaced after a month of sending it back and forth.

Now the "replacement" is having casing issues. The case is separating along the edge above the IR port. The battery is also starting to deform. This one only lasted 4 months. Nice.

This time yesterday: delighted with my MacBook. Today: disgusted.

My hard drive upped and died. The much-documented Seagate problem, I suspect.

so-so

I'm still getting used to the little differences between it and Linux, but I'm generally happy with this. However, I expected a 2.2Ghz C2D Macbook to be much faster with 4GB of RAM! This thing is slower than my 2.4Ghz Pentium 4 PC box which only had 1GB RAM! :( Firefox takes 30 seconds to load, which is insane to me. But, oh well; overall, Leopard is pretty nice, although a sadly SLOW OS.
....wait...
Hey! It was a set of bad preferences (and I mean quite a few). So, I just decided create a new user and transfer my files to it. This little lappy is flying now! I'm certainly glad I switched now. :)

I officially switched on November 5th, 2007 and haven't regretted it for a moment. My MBP is in my signature here, as is the desktop PC that has started to become a thing of the past. In my old apartment my desk was in my bedroom, so I'd come home and hop on the PC and use my laptop just a little bit for iPhoto stuff and basic file reorganization. Now that I've moved my desk is now in the dining room area, so I don't have as much desire to camp out there for the evening. I have spent more and more time on my MBP each night, forgetting the large hunk of metal in the corner.

I love :apple:.

I love mine, but am in constant fear that the HD will die. I got my MBP when they first updated them with the C2D in late '06. 3 months after I got it, the HD drive decided life wasn't worth living. If that wasn't bad enough, the "genius" (and I use that term lightly) at apple was determined that it was my fault. I was pretty offended by that as I'm not a kid or teenager, and use this computer for work. Plus I have applecare, so there really shouldn't have been an issue. They finally replaced it, and I have been living in horror ever sense then. This is the first computer I've ever owned that lost a HD. And I've been through about 12 PC's since the early 90's, both for personal use and work, and have never lost a HD. Maybe I was lucky. But now I back up my mac like I have OCD for fear that any bump to the desk or shifting of my knee when I'm using it on the go will kill the HD again.

Oh, and I cannot wait until they update the GPU with a serious card. Someday . . . someday.

I'm with you there. I just hope and pray that mine won't crash before I can save up the money for a time capsule. It's so difficult to consistently backup a laptop, but worth it in the end.

just bought MBP last month, and i shall say its my best buy this year :D

and will never regret it for at least 4 years to come :)

I love my mbp, brand new only about a month old. But a pixel is failing and apple won't ix it.:(

Mine is the ritz, bees' knees, cat's meow, ad infinitum.

Not problem free - Garage Band crashes once in a while and I to restart - but it's awesomeness defined. :D

Yea baby. The MacBook Pro I got 8 months ago is on my short list of best things I have ever bought or had bought from me. When I was 12, my parents bought me Super Nintendo AND Street Fighter 2 on the same day, for my birthday. That was arguably the best present or purchase I have ever had. When I was 9, my dad bought me a ping pong table for my birthday. I am a big tennis player, so I grew up playing like 6 hours of ping pong a day. That was up there with favorite presents ever. Also, my Fender Deluxe American guitar that I bought for myself and the enormous Fender Deluxe Tube Amp that my dad split with me -- that was also up there on the list. I cannot think of anything else in my entire life that has pleased me as much as this beautiful Mac. My first Mac ever - I had been "getting Dells" and **** previously.

So to make a long story pretty long -- I absolutely love this Mac.

(My battery sort of ran out of steam after 8 months -- a bit of a downer, BUT since its within a year I got a free one shipped to me and get this. It came in LESS THAN 24 HOURS! I have never in my life had a shipment come in under 24 hours. I am still in shock.)

Absolutely happy with my BlackBook, no question about it. Been using it for five months and have had no problems with it. Even when the fan comes on I don't hear it unless I listen closely. Also, the two-finger scrolling is *so* handy that I find myself trying to use it on other laptops before I catch myself.

I'm happy w/ my MBP. Even though it's not perfect it's the best computer I ever had and will for a long time. It's my baby.

count me in the "happy" camp. I was happy with my G4 Sawtooth (still am though I use it less now a days), I was happy with my iBook G4 until I passed it on to my wife and kids when I got my Macbook which is making me happy right now. I'll be even happier once Adobe finally releases Photoshop Elements 6 as a universal binary app.

incredibly happy with my macbook. even though its pre SR, its lightning quick and does everything i want it to do. after using osx for a couple months now, i don't miss xp at all. i'm not a "switcher," i've just taken a hiatus for several years. tiger was my first exposure to os x, and before that, i had used everything since system 7. mind you i'm only 19, so i've been around computers a while.. haha

Macbook / black

I just got my 2.2GHz SR Macbook (black) a few days ago and I absolutely love it to death!:D I will definitely by another :apple: Notebook when this one dies.
