I hate cases.

My 6+ has been without a case since I got it two months ago. There is one small scratch in the back of the case that's about 1/16th of an inch wide. You have to hold the phone up to the light just right and look close to see it. I'm not sure if I caused that or it came that way but unless you know exactly where to look you'll never see it.

Other than that I have a small nick in my glass screen protector (not the phone itself, just the screen protector).

Honestly, I'm handling my 6+ much easier than my iPhone 5. There's been much more surface to grasp at desperately the one or two times I've almost dropped it and handling it seems far easier to me than holding on to my iPhone 5.

My only complaint is that the Space Gray (give use back black for godssake Apple!) gets dirty fast. I'm constantly having to wipe off dirty smudges from the back. It's annoying because my iPhone might end up looking like Pigpen from Peanuts handled it if I don't watch it.

I took my case off for a few minutes the other day, put my phone down on my desk, picked it up a few seconds later and noticed a small scratch on the bottom of the phone from when I put it down. It was in perfect condition prior to that. I can only imagine how scratched up this thing would be without that tiny little case I have on it.

Yea I have the Apple Leather case for the 6+ now, but I'd love to go careless. I work in an office environment with mostly carpet. It's those few areas with hard floors or that parking lot that scares me. Also the fact if I get scratches ... Can I live with that?

Putting a case on your phone is like grandma putting that clear plastic cover on her couch or fancy chairs!! Apple made their phones artistic and beautiful ---- show it off for goodness sake. 😀

I'm going case free for the last 7 weeks and I love it. I also doing the same with my other phone.

How does the back of the I6 Space Grey hold up to scratches? i.e, putting the phone down backside on a table naked. Any reviews???? Been using the I6 Apple leather case, and at this point its destroyed, ripped and the midnight blue colour is somewhat black now. Thinking of going naked, and those were my only few concerns.

Thanks

I wear a sport coat most of the time, so the side pockets are perfect fit for a 6. 6+ too big, so sold it, though I loved the battery and big screen. Had a "condom" on the iPhone 4, but it just got annoying. Use your phone up, and forget about resell value. Wear your phone down like a sneaker.

Maybe! But carrying your phone without a case will just eventually get your iPhone all scratched up and it will have a very low resale value. Nobody wants to buy an iPhone with scratches and dents all over it just because you chose not to carry it in a protective case. I think of the iPhone as an investment and you should protect that investment with a case. I think There is a little bit of OCD if you're trying to show off your phone by proving to everybody that you upgraded. Showing off the iPhone is like saying look at me, look at me, look what I have. Trust me, no one is going to be jealous because you have an iPhone. Besides, the iPhone without a case is extremely slippery and it falls out of your hand easily. If you think Apple made their phones to be used without a case, then why does Apple make cases for the iPhone?

Resale value? Why are you assuming that someone wants to sell their iPhone? And no, an iPhone is not an investment. I'm not using a case on my iPhone. I did for about a month but at the end of the day whether they're plastic or leather, the cases end up looking cheap and/or dirty.

Many people out there sell there phones to upgrade and in many cases every year. And yes the iPhone is an investment and an expensive one at that. There is nothing wrong in using a case with it if people choose to do so. As for the cases looking cheap and dirty that is the whole point which you seem to be missing. It prevents the phone itself from getting all scratched up and dirty. I upgrade every year and I want to make sure I get the best resale value possible to offset the cost of the new phone.

I don't find anything annoying about having a clear polycarbonate case on my phone which is what I have. As for forgetting resale value, umm no. I sell my phone to upgrade to the new one each year and I want the best resale value possible to offset the cost of the new phone. If you don't care one bit about the condition of your phone then so be it but that doesn't mean others shouldn't.

I've been using a clear PowerSupport Air Jacket since last November (had Apple leather/silicone prior) and love it. It's not that cheap TPU junk, so it doesn't turn yellow, is very scratch resistant, and fits exceptionally well. Adds virtually no bulk, and has kept my 6 pristine.

I was someone who always went naked on every iPhone up til the 6, which just felt too slippery at first. I have to say, it sure is nice being able to set the phone down on a hard surface - in all the years I had naked phones, they stayed pristine, but only because I would never ever set them down on a hard surface, which got tiring after 6+ years.

I look at phones like toothbrushes. More expensive toothbrushes, but still too intimate to be bought secondhand. Anybody with an average income doesn't have to sell it to upgrade.

I also embrace the psychological aspect of not investing thoughts and energy into keeping it clean for the second owner. On paper it looks like one year of labour rather than one year of convenience by meeting another persons plead for a bargain. From a pure economical aspect it makes sense, but it doesn't seem to be a great deal for such a premium product.

After all it's not art, but consumer goods, even though you may perceive it so through the false promises of advertising.

I'm a grad TA now, so I've been helping dozens of students who always bring their phones and set them on the table. I've seen a good number of iPhone 6's and they've all been scratched up pretty bad or chipped. I assume they don't baby it because they just plop it onto the table. So I guess it's not the most resilient phone, but maybe the new harder aluminum will help.

I'm using an Apple leather case because I like how it feels. I would prefer to go nude, but my hands get clamy when holding skin on metal.

I'm not worried about some scratches because I just use my phone for a few years and sell it to Apple for a $100 or so. Is it the best deal? Absolutely not, but it's worth it to not have to deal with strangers on the Internet and have to coddle my device.

What's income got to do with it. It doesn't matter whether you earn £10,000 per year or £100,000. My income although by no means large is pretty decent but I still like to make sure I pay as little as possible for upgrades. Your argument makes no sense what so ever. It's a question of saving money as well as not being frivolous or careless with your devices.

Selling your phone generates income, but it doesn't generate a return investment wise. You should only use an iPhone without a care. Saving money and buying an iPhone doesn't co-habit well inside the same paragraph.

That's absolute rubbish. Selling the phone has got nothing to do with generating income but getting the most you can to off set the cost of the next one you buy. In all honesty you must be living on another planet.

The resale value is secondary for me, I just don't like marks or scratches on my iPhone or iPad.

Apple make beautiful devices, I like to keep them the way they came out the box. I use a case when I take my devices outside but at home I'll take them out the case. I don't feel the need to show off my devices in public, so having them in a case is fine. I bought my devices for me to enjoy, not others. When I want to enjoy the design and feel of the device "naked" I do so at home where it's far safer and less prone to trips and falls.

I just like to keep my things in good condition, that's it.
