Series 6 w rumored microLED and possible new case design is going to be an actual upgrade for my tastes
Oh, these "rumors" one year in advance. I don't know my friend. Do you think they have some relevancy?

Thinking of upgrading, but do you think series 6 with a new design will mean that the old bands no longer work?? I'm embarassed to tell you guys how many bands i currently own..... :p

If they ever redesign Watch and previous bands don't fit, they are going to have a LOT of unhappy customers. And almost everyone in this thread  I don't rule out a tweak to the case like they did with S4 in a future version but I don't see a design straying away from a square case being practical.

Well, considering that Apple has made it pretty clear they’re sticking with the square design, I doubt that the band port will changed anytime soon. Can Apple change the band-port? Absolutely, they’ve shown us what other products what they’re willing to remove or change without fear of what their customer base might think. Sometimes technology changes where it forces Apple to make alterations to the physical casings/construction of products. But for now, I don’t think there’s anything indicates that they’ll change the Band-port quite yet. And even if they did change it, it wouldn’t stop the Apple Watch from selling, but for some that have quite a band collection, yes, that would be frustrating.

$110? I checked twice and it said $120 both times. Either way, it's SUPER offensive of Apple. Last year the trade for AW3 was $250. Bad, but not as bad as $120. Absolutely ridiculous.

So short answer? Maybe. My AW4 is giving me issues recording exercise minutes...again (probably software related).
I agree the trade in value is such an insult, it made me sick

Pretty much the only reason why I would upgrade, aside from more storage - having said that with my S4, I’m barely using half the storage anyway, so it’s not really a deal breaker...
how does one tell how much storage is used on the watch?

Just got the 5 and being able to quickly glance at the watch to see the time is huge. Its hard to believe that Apple got away with not having this feature before.

I mean, yes? We know there’s tech out there that is perfect for the watch and that it’s being explored. It’s anybody’s guess as to when, but it’s absolutely relevant when you’re debating whether to upgrade, especially compared to how minimal this years changes are - especially against the 3 to 4 transition.

Umm... wait a min.

Let me preference this by saying.. the Always-On Display is an awesome addition to the Apple Watch. But to “quickly glance at the watch to see the time is huge”... really?

We all here... support Apple. By our passion in their products. But I knew Apple was planning to upgrade the Apple Watch this year. And, I knew I wasn’t planing on upgrading to it. IMO, the Apple Watch Series 4 is a huge upgrade over the Series 3. Smaller chassis and a larger display.

Of course, this is all subjective. But I don’t see Always-On displaying being that big of a upgrade over Series 4.

It is for me, especially in a work setting. It's why I'm upgrading.

But what I’m trying to explain is.....

Compared to Series 3 vs Series 4... the upgrade difference isn’t that huge between Series 4 and Series 5. Maybe I’m wrong, but hey... that’s my opinion

I see what you're saying. The jump from 3 to 4 was huge for me, especially the 30% increase in screen size and ECG.

While typing, look at your watch, just a empty screen of nothing? How can you manage with that old tech? 😀 When you finally upgrade you will know what your missing.

Probably not. Probably..

I bought My s4 on contract so still have a year to go. I could probably sell and settle - then start over with an s5, but there could be hassle getting my numbers switched over (Vodafone took ages to get it sorted out last year), and although always-on is the one thing i’ve wanted since the original launch, I can probably wait.

Old tech? You mean historic tech! Ha!

But I think I can manage forgoing a second to see the display on my Apple Watch. I can promise you I won’t be upgrading from my Series 4 to the Series 5, but I do have plans to upgrade to Series 6 when that comes.

Yuck.

I'm on T-Mobile here in the US.

Switching over was trivial.

Unpaired old waitch, selected "keep cellular plan"
Clicked on the setup cellular button for the new watch (inside the watch app on the phone)
T-mobile window popped up saying T-Mobile sees an existing data plan, would I like to transfer or add a new line.
I selected Transfer and badda-boom-badda-bing my watch line was moved from the old to the new.

Rainmaker just did a test which showed the optical heart rate sensor on the Apple Watch 5 is less accurate than the 4. That’s very significant for my usage, so it’s putting me off upgrading from from my 4 for the moment till I know more.

He suspects Apple made a compromise with the HR sensor to save on battery life because it kept dropping accuracy in a way the Apple Watch 4 never did.

could also just be a bug - iOS 13 is loaded with them too. But it’s good info to have.

I’m upgrading because my wife was planning on getting a 5 and Verizon was offering $150 off the second so I decided to go for it. Already sold my old stainless for more than I was expecting!

Apple is not quoting these devices. They go though a 3rd party. It’s wildly known by now that “selling” or “trading in” a device to a retailer is the lowest form of return. Better to sell via swappa/eBay/Craigslist/fbmarketplace ect. Those are riskey but yield the highest returns.

What tech are you reffering to? I don't watch the rumors on a regular basis so what have I missed?
I didn't say a word against the discussion. I am just not sure if we can trust the rumors. :)

So I impulse bought a Series 5 and was really excited to try AOD but to be honest I found it more annoying than useful. Distracting and just kind of pointless.. I was hoping to be wowed but I just wasn't. I think it was the whole still needing to turn your wrist to brighten the screen.. sure it displays all the time but it's so dim it's tough to read anyways and why would I need everyone else to see my watch display?

Had there been some kind of insane battery, sleep tracker mode, new health sensors, new physical design elements I may have justified keeping it but i'm happy to keep my Series 4 for another year.

AOD is pretty over rated as a marquee feature. Reviewers are 100% correct in saying it's a great upgrade for Series 0-3 users.

Each to his own but I love the AOD, especially in meetings at work. If you're worried about other people seeing your watch display you can have it hide complications when your screen is dimmed. They'll only see the time.

I feel somewhat similar. I LOVE the idea of the AOD, but in practice have found it to be a bit too dim to see in many settings. I am planning on returning and getting a used Stainless steel 4 instead. If there was just a BIT more battery and a BIT brighter AOD it would be amazing, but it isn’t quite there for me.
