I don’t need it at all with an S4 but every day I am more and more intrigued by the always on.

Is it upgrading if you keep your series 4?

I really want a second watch. I never would have imagined— I had zero interest in the watch when it was first released. Ended up trying the series 2 and got hooked, after not wearing any watch for the better part of 20 years.

I hadn't worn a watch in over ten years and never would have thought that I would go back to wearing one. Crazy how things change.

I've upgraded my Apple Watch every year since the beginning, this was going to be the first year I actually didn't. I've been so happy with my series 4, with no issues whatsoever. Since we didn't hear any rumors leading up to announcement, I was pretty sure there wasn't going to be anything significant, further solidifying my decision not to upgrade. Right before the event I stated to my partner that the only thing I would upgrade for was an always on display.

Regardless, here we are. My series 5 44mm titanium will be here Friday. I also ordered the ceramic edition (but won't be here until Tuesday). I loved the ceramic series 2 and 3, but I always felt like I couldn't use any of my other bands and just kept the default because I felt like everything clashed. I'm going to try and get over that this time and try to switch bands as often as possible to try different combinations.

im not upgrading, really happy w series 4 sport 40mm and I don't feel hindered by not having always on even though it is a cool 'one more thing' / the main thing

plus I just straight up dont wanna spend a penny on my wearable this year ill be honest, I got ac+ too

I had s1 before s4 so it was a quantum leap enough that im indifferent

I've had SS and SBSS watches at same time since series 3. With the S4SS I have cellular activated for runs, but not on the SBSS. SS shows some light scratches but otherwise perfect. SBSS is Mint, like out of the box. Will likely sell just one and replace it with same in S5.

But will the next problem be screen burn in for the "always on" display?

I do a bit of outdoor swimming and the only thing that might tempt me is the always on display for that as it can be a bit of a pain on the 4 BUT... if the always-on is too dim along with the milky hue of sapphire under direct sunlight then I think it might not be great...we shall see.

I'm an extremely happy Series 4 owner and I'm really struggling with the idea of paying for an upgrade to the 5. The idea of paying the extra amount for an always on face doesn't, at face value, make sense. However, that feature is the one thing that I feel is missing from the watch and it's something I would really enjoy. I'll likely pull the trigger, because I want the always on face so bad, but I wish I could get more features out of the upgrade.

Absolutely not.

Series 6 w rumored microLED and possible new case design is going to be an actual upgrade for my tastes

Where are the rumors for series 6 and what it will have? I was trying to find some last week but no luck. I’m curious as to what they expect.

I’m not confident MicroLED will be here by 2020, I still think it’s in the R&D phase, but I do believe Apple Watch will eventually see it. Not To mention, I don’t think Apple even has the appropriate suppliers lined up to manufacture micro LED

Thinking of upgrading, but do you think series 6 with a new design will mean that the old bands no longer work?? I'm embarassed to tell you guys how many bands i currently own..... :p

It will. There's no chance Apple will change the mechanic next year.

Yup. S6 most likely will have the same display but new & better chips.

I upgraded to a SS last year for the first time since the first watch. I never saw a need to upgrade before. I was thinking i wouldn’t need to update for another few years but the always on display is huge to me. It’s a shame they didn’t introduce it last year with the redesign or that they didn’t add more features to this release, but that 1 feature is a big enough deal to make me upgrade, even though it’s going to be an expensive upgrade.

The bummer is the resale value of the SS models are pretty terrible right now on eBay. Paid $800 for this and they are selling for around $400, was hoping to get more for only being one year old but looks like a lot of people are selling theirs to update.

Does anyone reckon the series 6 will have 5g

how can you be so sure?

I meant the old bands will still work with S6.

It will take something extraordinary, a complete change in direction, for Apple to change band mechanic in only next year. This year there are strong rumours that Apple will get rid of Lightning for USB-C. There are good arguments on usage for it yet Apple still left Lightning intact. I don't see any good arguments for changing Apple Watch band mechanic at all.
