Most people don't multitask? What?
I also said that *everything* is closed down except from the ONE app I'm using and the ONE browser tab. Spend a bit of time in either, then go back to the other one and it *will* reload.

You might be fine playing a game, closing it, going to a social media app, doing your business, closing it and then playing with Garageband or whatever. Using apps one by one is not an issue, unless it's Safari where pages reload as you're actually reading them. Multitasking is the issue, even in *the* most basic manner.

Ok then you're back to lying again because I can spend all day flipping between macrumors posts like this one and other tabs or notes or whatever and it won't reload if there aren't many apps open.

It only happens if you have many apps open. Again I don't think you understand how RAM works.

Ive already tested this recently and i know for sure you're either making it up and exaggerating your experiences or like is more likely, you have a sloppy install.

Your experience is not the default behavior. Either that or just plain not telling the truth and trolling for weeks now.

But it also doesn't mean that things should stay at 1 GB either. Why did they increase to 1 GB from 512 MB or to 512 MB from 256 MB in that case?

I honestly think it will be 2GB since the iPad got it but cmon....

If Apple thought it would be enough in testing to have 1GB it would be totally fine and it would be smooth.

Nothing to act all aggresive consumerist about.

Maybe the guys who test the designs are like you?

Considering that there are people complaining about RAM problems on those all-powerful Galaxy phones with 3GBs of RAM, I'm more inclined to think that software has a bigger impact than the amount of RAM. If the software is poorly optimized, it doesn't matter if you have 16GB of RAM in your smartphone.

No doubt 2GB of RAM would great, but my iPhone 6 Plus has zero issues.

I agree. Safari, Mail, Music, and iOS 8 are all poorly optimized.

Someone ok'd a thin bendy design with a protruding camera.
Someone ok'd big chunky yesteryear bezels.
Someone ok'd a buggy as all hell o/s.
So why might someone not ok an insufficient amount of RAM?
Perhaps Johnny Ive is one of those annoying types who only uses his phone for calls, SMS and social media. Maybe he does all his 'real work' on a Mac? Perhaps he never multitasks on his phone. One thing's for sure though, just because a product is released it doesn't mean that it is necessarily fit for purpose or that it has been tested in all possible areas it might be used.

I think there's been enough evidence of Apple dropping enough balls here and there (as is the case with many companies really) to say that they are not completely right all or even most of the time necessarily. Of course it's still up to them, but it doesn't mean that at some point things can be better and perhaps even aren't all that good in various instances for different people.

No, it doesn't matter how many apps you have open. The content of the tabs is what matters. Also, I can sometimes see Safari reloading tabs while using the tab switcher button. It's like a preemptive reload to mask the reload I would see when selecting a tab.

Pretty sure they continue using 1gb.

What makes you say that?

I'll bet on 1GB also. Why? People here like to remind people like me that I'm in the minority in how I use my 6+. Since us complainers are in the minority and people here say that most people have "no problems" with their 6+, I expect Apple to save a pittance on each phone by staying with 1GB.

I would be surprised, but not shocked. However it would definitely be the straw that broke the camel's back and I would be buying a Note 5 for sure. I'll never buy another iPhone or iPad if it only has 1GB of RAM, and I can't stomach staying with my 6+ for another year. Cripes no.

I'm not buying the 6S+, but that's because I have a 6+ and I don't think the next iPhones will be a significant upgrade. It'll take more than force touch and 2gb of ram for me to upgrade. But absolutely i'd buy it if it didn't have 2gb of ram. iOS and OS X are so efficient and i've had no problems over the years. I'd trust an iPhone with 1GB of ram over an Android phone with 3GB any day. I can't imagine the new iPhone not having 2GB though.

But to be honest if iOS 9 is going to be a "snow leopard" release apple might still stick to 1GB ram on 6S and 2GB ram on ipads

How exactly does the Watch cause the RAM in your phone to become constrained?

Because it's an extra application that runs at all time on the iPhone when Apple Watch is connected over Bluetooth? That's how the Apple Watch receives its updates about messages, weather, notifications etc.

I've noticed a significant difference in Safari web-page caching, Mail caching etc since getting my Watch. Apple are on thin ice and you know they know it. We'll see (minimum, but most likely)) 2GB in the 6s. Bet on it.

Definitely not buying if there isn't at least 2GB. And at this point, Apple should just consider going to 3 or 4GB.

I take it you haven't read the rest of the thread

And just as many people said they had no problems with 512MB, yet they still upgraded to 1GB. And if you don't have problems with 1GB, buy the iPhone 6. It's that simple. And yes, the Air 2 does reload, but not as much as the Air 1. I could say the same about the iPad 2 and the iPad 3. 2GB is definitely an improvement.

This.

That's what they like to spend their time doing.

Hint: if you are such a power user and u know you're gonna be doing that then just close excess apps and tabs. You have to have tons of memory intensive apps open to make the reloads happen.

Problem solved with a simple and fair trade off, and no more reloads.

1GB is perfectly fine.
If 1GB is perfectly fine, then why does the Air 2 have 2GB RAM?

Yes - I returned my 6 and reverted back to my 5s in part due to the constant app and safari tab reloads, any other real world performace differences were negligible. My iPad air 2 really shines when compared to 1gb iOS devices purely because I'm not seeing constant app and tab reloads. If the 6s comes with 2gb - I'll be switching.

Just because you hear a handful of people on here say it?

Im pretty sure the Apple engineers know better than you, the average joe.

Most people confused simple bugs from a new major update for RAM issues.

There was nobody who ran scientific tests that concluded such things, it was just a bunch of people speculating in a few threads that had no real conclusive evidence. It was just random complainers.

but now for some reason people think theres some kind of consensus.

There is no such concensus and 1GB is just fine. Most people don't even understand how RAM on iOS works yet they comment so much about it.

If 1GB isn't enough how come my phone is fine and I can do anything just perfect on it including high quality music production and intensive console graphics gaming?

I had to run an experiment just to recreate the reloads. Its not that big of a deal. Just hearsay by random complainers.

Thats not really a consensus that it needs more ram. Just people want to act like it is.

Most people don't do stuff like that. And if you were to do that then close a few apps and it won't do that.

You can switch between apps all you want and it won't reload. Don't forget we tested this.

Its very tough to get it to reload. You're complaining about nothing for weeks. Just return the phone already if you don't like using nice phones with big screens.

Actuallllyyyyyyyy I believe I am a little more than the "average joe" when it comes to computing since I do have a Bachelor's and Master's in Engineering, as well as this being my scope of work, and I know exactly how RAM works. Also I am a person who uses multiple phones and to use a device that has more than 1GB of RAM, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the device with more RAM will run more efficiently and handle multitasking way better than a device with 1GB of RAM.

Everyone here that has a 6+ knows the app refreshes are horrendous, but I can pick up an M9 or another device that is not known for RAM issues (since my S6 does the exact same thing as the 6+) and have multiple tabs open and come back without an refresh, its simple things like that. Yeah I may not be a super power user when it comes to multitasking on a device but you can tell a difference when you beat a 1GB phone down the activity.

You should probably get a different phone regardless of what they do with the RAM, because it sounds like you just don't like iPhones. I don't get why so many people seem to complain about how a certain product should be changed into what they want instead of just buying a different product that is exactly, or at least closer to, what they want.

In quite a few cases the product can in fact use a change that is suggested. And if iPhone and iOS is actually what they want or at least closer to what the want than other alternatives, doesn't mean that there aren't deficiencies that might exist that are worthy of being discussed and should be addressed.
