I'm in! whats with the 6+ downscaling thingy? I dont see it in demo sets at Apple stores.

What do you mean you don't see it? There's nothing to really see, per se, it's just how it works on the 6+.

I hope they'll put 32GB on base model this year. Is quite ridiculous to have only 16GB on the 6plus at its price

I intend to get the 64gb or 128gb model this year anyways, so it doesn't bother me what size the base storage size is.

Personally, I would rather Apple just do away with the 16gb tier, and offer only 64gb and 128gb tiers (raise the starting price if need be).

No way. I hope that they get rid of the 16GB model as well, but if they do that, they will definitely reintroduce the 32GB model in its place. If they don't change the prices of the 64GB and 128GB models, that would mean that much less people will be able to afford an iPhone.

6s was never in the plans for me, but if the 7 is still 1gb ram, I'll probably skip it and hope for 7s.

If I have 1 tab open in safari, get a snapchat, open it (picture, not video) and go back to Safari. My page reloads.

That's messed up.

I think they will upgrade to 2.

That said, even the 1GB in the 6 can outperform or hold up to other phones. Apple is one of those companies that the memory doesn't matter is much. It still holds up, and especially in multitasking. That's the beauty of iOS.

Me personally, I think 3 and 4GB phones are silly. I've never saw the appeal of Samsung, for instance with their over-the-top specs when my iPhone 6 does just as good.

It reminds me of the Mac VS PC argument of the "better specs for less" that PCs supposedly have. I just don't need all of the high end specs, I'm happy with whatever Apple puts out there because I know it'll work and work well.

I don't think that higher RAM capacity phones are silly in the slightest. RAM is cheap. The only expensive part of the matter is designing a logic board or SoC that can fit the necessary components in there. I think the biggest gripe for consumers nowadays is that memory is readily abundant in the full sized computer world, with consumer level machines coming in 16 and 32GB varieties. I know shrinking stuff down has it's own set of issues, but if other manufacturers can put in 2GB then why not Apple? It is a premium device after all, and claims to offer a premium experience. Why not just put more than enough RAM into such a device instead of 1GB, which I would qualify as "slightly more than enough".

I understand some people don't really "notice" not having more RAM, but having just 1GB more makes multitasking much more fluid for the heavier users of the iPhone. Simple as that.

I can never understand why is Apple so miser with the RAM.

RAM is like a desk that you work on, the bigger the desk the more work you can put on it and access it quickly. Now mind you, Apple's "desk" is very organised, more so than Android's but still, I would like a bigger desk, it is such an important aspect.

Android phones will have 4GB of RAM next year, yet Apple will still be stuck on 2GB.

And, the bigger the desk, the more you can put on it.. and soon you'll need a bigger desk so you can put more on it.. and then you'll need a bigger desk..

It's a vicious cycle. What happened to being happy with what we have? I neither need nor want more RAM in my iOS devices.

If there is no 2GB of ram that will make my choice easier to stick with Android for another year. The only reason why I got an iPad Air 2 was because of the 2GB of ram for future proofing. I turned down iPad 4, iPad Air/iPad mini retina because of it.
And on top of that a $650 phone should not start at 16 gigs of storage. In 2015 16 gigs should be reserved for mid level products.

If Apple doesn't upgrade the ram, no way will I purchase the iPhone 6s or 6s Plus. Who agrees?

Moot point imo. As with Touch ID in the 5S and every other change. By the time it's highly taken advantage of. The next version of the device will likely be out.

The reason why they started at 16GB again is to get people to fork up the extra 100 to get more storage. Kind of a sneaky move.

The phones definitely need more RAM but I think optimizing the OS is a higher priority, it solves RAM issues without having to actually upgrade hardware.

But all in all Apple just needs to do something definitive to the technology scene again and get out of Androids shadow.

I agree. I'm sure someone will ask why do you need a bigger desk for anyway? Or if you bought a bigger desk, then you'll want an even bigger desk. I'm sure Apple would say be happy with our baby desk. An adult's desk will eat too much battery power.

So let me ask you. Do you still have the very first phone ever got? Well then clearly you don't follow your own "being happy with what you have" advice.

As for the bigger and bigger desk I'm going to have to disagree there as well. Eventually, there comes a point of "good enough", the point diminishing returns. IMO, it's going to be 4GB+.

You can only do so much with software. At some point, the hardware has to evolve and the bottleneck is the RAM. It would be a lot easier to upgrade the hardware to give more headroom vs slaving away at trying to "optimize" for a puny 1GB.

Yes, I do still own the iPhone 4 that began my iOS journey. But, you didn't know that prior to jumping to conclusions, so it's ok :)

With the provided hardware and feature set we are already pushing the limits of optimization. To optimize much further you'd need hardware to back it up. Say for example memory compression. Thats a great idea but if it requires a CPU upgrade to accomplish it then its just easier to add more RAM to begin with.

Its like hardware codec's. h265 for example, extremely optimized compression but it needs the hardware to back it up.

I may have missed it. I can understand why you might not NEED more RAM but why wouldn't you WANT more?

While 2GB of RAM is certainly welcomed, I personally don't think I will buy another iPhone until significant changes are made to battery life.
Either that I or until whatever version iOS doesn't work on my iP6's hardware lol

I think what he/she meant to ask is if you're still using your first iPhone. If not, then that would be against your point of being happy with what you have. Speaking of which, no invention in the history of mankind came about because of the attitude of "be happy with what you have". People saw a need/want for improvement and made it happen. Without people who have the opposite attitude of yourself we'd quite honestly still be living in caves, eating wild plants, strangling animals, and eating their raw meat.

Are you talking about the 2GB of RAM? Because memory is something that gets used almost immediately when you add more (especially in the case of iOS). The iPad Air 2 utilizes the increased memory to great extent, providing a much better multitasking environment to work and play in. This would be in no way similar to TouchID where Apple has full control over the extra gig of RAM, locking developers out until future OS implementations.

Why do you even care "whose in..."? What difference does it make to you? Do you need approval from people you don't even know? If you don't want it, then don't buy it. I never understand this desire to have other peoples approval of what YOU want.

I'm just seeing out of curiosity, If only 5 people want it they might not add it, if they see 100's of people want it they might add it.
