Why do you let it bother you? Most of the comments you posted are true...
1. It doesn't have a file system so it cant upload and download files, it doesnt have flash so it can't use hulu, you are limited to only app store apps, no photoshop or other similiar productivity apps. So yes it's not as useful as a laptop.
2. It costs Apple 250 bucks to make the 16gb iPad they sell it for 500, So yes it is overpriced.
3. A netbook is better if you need to do some real computing or watch hulu etc...See #1, it will just do it a little slower.
4. See number 1 and 3 both laptops and Netbooks have cameras for video conferencing nowadays, it would be useful to have a front facing camera on the iPad.
Alot of these issues will be addressed with v2 of the ipad, just as they were with v2 of the iphone...it's no big deal. People seem to get so bent out of shape over the silliest things. The iPad is a neat device to have for sure, I love mine even with all it's shortcomings, but not everyone is going to agree and I can understand why and respect that. Theres an old saying you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Well you can also show a horse your ipad but you can't force him to like it!
Who cares what other people think...let it go, as long as you enjoy the device thats all that matters.
#1 - you can download and upload files via the iTunes conduits for apps that make use of it, not to mention the many 3rd party apps emerging that do it. True, the current implementation of the file system is clunky. Is it as you presented: no. Hulu is developing an
iPad app. Autodesk has made a very nice drawing app called sketchbook pro that can export as a layered PSD file, and if Adobe doesn't make a Photoshop version, other apps will fill the void.
#2 - is crap, as others pointed out.
#3 - what is "real computing"? As defined by you? I am doing quite a bit of "real computing" on my iPad all the time. Writing documents, making spreadsheets, watching movies, annotating PDFs, watching netflix, slinging content from my Tivo, watching ABC. And doing it fast on software that was custom designed for the touch interface and on an OS custom designed for the hardware. Real computing on a netbook for me is a miserable experience, using mini-laptop with an OS designed for much more robust hardware, and apps that are designed for a bigger screen and more faster computers. No thanks for me. But if that meets your definition of better, because it has a camera, and run windows apps at a slow speed, then have at it.
#4 - it would be better if it had a front facing camera for video conferencing. Can't disagree there.
It scares people, almost subconciously, when other humans don't see things the way they do. It has to do with the trust required to live together peacefully in a social world. Forums like this one are a social world. I see the iPad as a device stuck between two proven functional states, and not that good for either. Why don't you see it that way? We both have the same view of the device. For example: My differing view may be thanks to my experiences with Apple and computers in general over the last 30+ years. I can't tell your age, so I don't know if your opinion is based on a similarly lengthy experience or colored by Apple's recent successes with no history to balance against them. You are equally untrusting, and resentful of my opinions for the same reason. It is human nature.
It's one thing for you to see it your way, and for me to think something different. We can agree to disagree. What baffles me is when someone who sees it your way: "the iPad as a device stuck between two proven functional states, and not that good for either", who can not recognize that there are a two words that are very important: "for me" (edit: it looks like you covered that with the words, "I see", which is just fine too). The way it is often stated implies it is a fact, when it is obviously an opinion. That's what rubs me the wrong way with the anti-iPadding.
There are over 500,000 people in the last 8 days who voted with $500 or more out their wallets to disagree with you, BTW.
