I know. Apple will probably resell at low prices. These could have been sold to countries with no return policy. Apple would have been made more money.

Actually they should not accept returns if stock is limited. This not like people are not having the option to try the phones at the store before buying.

People should make their decision if they will be keeping the phone or not before buying.

By accepting returns, people can buy without worry and use the phone for 2 weeks and then return the phone. It is like they had the phone free for half a month.

Cry me a river

Seems like the only real reason for many is screen size. Makes sense. Looks like Apple is shaping up for more big sales next year.
It’s this fo me.

An X the size of a Plus..maybe tad shorter & i am in.

I would like TouchID instead of FaceID.

Why not have both. Making the Apple logo on the back would be pretty cool and practical.

Because it is unecessary, Face ID works very well. What is point in having both?

I am curious as to why you think it would be more practical to have Touch ID on the back of the phone? Requiring either caseless or a case with a cutout, and of course generally access to back of the phone.

A case with a cutout to show the Apple logo.

Because Face ID is better and will only continue to improve. No reason to dedicate resources/time to Touch ID when Face ID is their future.

I agree. I don’t think TouchID is dead. I won’t buy a phone if FaceID is only option.

You may need to start looking for a new platform in the future, but they should keep selling the 8 for a few more years at least.

Well after returning my X and being dead set on using the 8+ until the X+ is out, my work has issued me a X lol. The irony. Now I have to learn to LOVE it.

Again it’s got a great screen and is great for someone who wants a phone in between the 8 and 8+ in terms of screen size. If you watch a lot of video, you’ll definitely appreciate the 8+ but the higher resolution on the X is what the trade off is. The notch is annoying but you get used to it. Also carrying a smaller phone is nice too. Can’t go wrong on either device. Just depends on your needs.

And for those who bought the iPhone on Nov 15 and later, you have till January to decided whether If you want to keep it thanks to the holiday return police :)

It being better is your opinion.

I’ve been very close to this industry for a long, long time.. before there was an iPhone. I’ll be just fine.

Well happy with my 10 month old 7 plus - no need to upgrade at this point and I would like to keep this phone a bit longer than the 2 year upgrade cycle I always have followed.

Nothing against the X, amazing tech, I am not sure I like the narrower screen for example.

As for Face ID, well again very cool only issue I have is if you keep your phone on the desk or table you have to keep it face down or it will open automatically unless there are some settings I don't know about. Mind you I do especially in a public setting when I would rather not others see my notifications so I guess this is a silly complaint.

I for one DON'T want touch ID on the back.

Well it's also Apple's opinion. And yes, I am sure you will be. When the rest of the phone industry moves towards facial recognition, will you just continue to find whichever company is making phones with fingerprint scanners?

I think companies will offer both.

Yea I am sure some will. Samsung does right now. You have options, but they will likely reside outside of the Apple ecosystem, which is just fine for a lot of people. For me, I'd rather them continue to improve upon an already great version 1.0 of Face ID.

Because some of us would like to have another option or a back up, and that is the reason. Simple. Besides, it doesn’t hurt to have both does it?. You could opt for one or the other.

I see. At least you have the choice to try out the phone for 2 weeks.

If Apple had no return policy in the US, too, how many will like up to buy the phone?

Not nearly as many. It seems a lot of people buy the phone just to try it, knowing they can return it within 2 weeks with no questions asked. If they couldn't return it, I think they would be a lot more careful about their decision to buy it, such as seeing it first or looking at reviews from real users.

Dude. It’s basically known Apple wanted to to both but couldn’t in time for release...it was even delayed without it.

Does not open automatically. It will unlock if it sees your face, but you have to swipe into home screen. The reason for this is for the notifications...with Face ID, it can be set so the only person who can see your notifications is....you.

Dude. It’s basically known Apple wanted to to both but couldn’t in time for release...it was even delayed without it.

It is not "basically known". That is definitely a rumour, however, often propagated by people who often have never even used Face ID for any appreciable amount of time (if at all).

The other story, as reported by an Apple insider, is that Apple opted to go with Face ID instead of Touch ID over a year before the X was even announced. Touch ID was initially a Plan B in case Face ID could not be ready for market. As soon as they knew it could be ready for market, they abandoned any efforts with the Plan B of Touch ID and focused on Face ID. If they really though Touch ID was necessary, they could have indeed put it on the back (or kept working the last year to get it under the display). They decided it was not.

http://bgr.com/2017/09/15/iphone-x-face-id-vs-touch-id-original-design/

The idea that Touch ID, a form Apple has been using for years, was significantly harder for them to develop for the X than Face ID, so they just dropped it, is bizarre.
