I had the iPhone X for a week. Screen resolution is definitely a step up. I just couldn’t get used to the smaller (narrow) screen. I use my phone to watch videos while working out it's a downgrade for me. Also, having to look at your screen and then swiping up to unlock the phone is a bit of a drag. With touch ID, it's just one step.

Returning the X today and going to stick with the 8 Plus. I'll wait for the X Plus next year. Everyone who is upgrading from a 4.7 phone and are not fans of big phones, you will love the X!

I had the same feelings as you in regards to the X. When you get used to watching content on a "Plus" device to me the new phone feels like a downgrade. Narrow screens are not just with Apple though as I contemplated Samsung which are just as narrow so unfortunately seems like that is the trend. If watching movies/youtube etc. on a device is one of your main concerns I don't think there is anything better from Apples lineup than a Plus in terms of screen real estate.

I have tried mine for a week now and sadly I think it's going back tomorrow. My 7 is a better feel in my hand and all I need right now. I also don't think Face ID is a better solution than Touch ID.

$1700+ in Canada for a phone I'm not 100% satisfied with is just not a purchase I can feel good about.

I really wanted to love this thing.

Don’t do it. Got my X on launch day - day 14 was yesterday - now back to the adult size phone 8 plus lol.

No seriously if you’re used to the plus size I’d stick with it till they come out with an X plus

When I first jumped from a 6 to 6plus it only took me 2 days to love the bigger phones. The X different story - 2 weeks and still thought it was too small. So returned it yesterday - I needed a new phone cause my 7plus battery was shot. So got an 8 plus and could not be happier.

Everyone is different tho just my experiences after getting so used to the plus size
Actually held X via credit card st local store today as one was available when I woke up. Had three baseball games (coached 2)..busy day.. and released the hold. Can’t pull the trigger. I’ve tested it a lot and it’s just too thin for me. Camera isn’t that much better for me. All zoom lenses in these small frames are useless.
I love the 8 Plus.

Yea that was the top reason I returned my X. It wasn’t the price. My 7 feels so much better in the hand with a Magpul case. I can use it securely and comfortably with 1 hand while standing on the bus, walking the dog etc. When I had the X I dropped it a lot luckily on surfaces that wouldn’t break the screen. I then tried the X naked in the house and it felt better in the hand but no way I’m rocking the X naked. I then tried it with an Apple silicone case and it felt better but I need a case that provides more protection like the Magpul or Otterbox Symmetry case. Those type of cases make the X not comfortable and secure in the hand for one hand use for me. The X is pretty much the same size naked as my 7 in a Magpul case.

Looks like people like me are sh*t out of luck because the 6/7/8 footprint is going to be obsolete.

I actually got an 8 now because my wife who had a 6S Plus wanted a smaller iPhone this time around. I gave her my 7 and got the 8 on her line. She didn’t like the X.

I was hoping that the X at least would have been the 6/7/8 with edge to edge screen. Don’t know if my measurements are right but I think Apple can make the 6/7/8 into a 5” edge to edge screen or pretty close and make the Apple logo on the back Touch ID which would be bad ass.

I just an X to replace my 7+, but am already thinking about returning it and going back. Everything is great about it except the screen aspect ratio, notch, and rounded edges. Coming from a plus model it feels like a step down. I think Apple really ruined what should have been an awesome phone with their screen design. Maybe I'll try again with the X+.

Yea the device seemed to wide or something not sure.

I feel 90% of people returning the phones are primarily worried about the price tag and then deciding if it is worth to keep or not. If not satisfied then return and get the money back.

If the price was not so high not many would return the phones. How many phones had been returned since launch? Apple could have made more money by sending the stock to HK where there is no return policy.

People are able to pay for the phones by cash still can't get stock.

I didn’t return mine because of the price tag. I believe most that are returning it are Plus users who don’t like the footprint of the X.

I’m not a Plus user always been a 6/7 user. Price didn’t bother me even a little bit. Wanted to like the X and did in the beginning until I started using it in the real world. Can’t use it as a daily driver but can use it as a weekend driver. Not practical to have a device for a weekly driver and one for weekend driver.

I agree that some are justifying the price point when they decide to return the iPhone X or not. They likely are weighing in the option of what their previous iPhone did for them and how different iPhone X is in order When deciding to keep the iPhone X. I think the other return reason is Face ID is not meeting their expectations As they hoped.

I see.

I have a few friends and clients on the US. Most of them complained about the price and were trying to justify keeping the phone due to the high price.

It's actually a privilege to be able to buy a product and be able to return it without any worry. This is something we don't have in HK.

At most we get is 7 days with full packing and store invoice. However Apple is the only company that can get away with no returns. All due to the high demand. If there was no demand, Apple would risk wirh the silly no return policy.

I feel that if the price was not high less people would return the phones and give the iPhone X a chance. Considering it is the 10th year Anniversary phone. It Can be a classic after a while.

I can't blame them since the phone does cost $1500 with Apple Care. Yet there are people who can settle the payment in cash on HK but there is no stock. Stock is slowly starting to improve here. Hopefully everyone should have the iPhone X by end of the year.

For me Face ID worked better than Touch ID and I enjoyed it much better. What I didn’t like first was the X footprint. I much prefer the 6/7/8 footprint. Second I didn’t like the UI. I did love the new gestures but didn’t like where stuff was located. Not easily accessible for 1 quick 1 hand use for my use. It’s like Apple just through software for the X together to get it launched. Yes can be fixed in the software end but not confident it will in the near future. With a device that’s wide and taller and heavier access should be middle to bottom. If you’re a 2 hand user no problem.

I’ve seen posts where people say they have small hands can use the X 1 handed as good as they used they 6/7. Honestly that’s hard for me to believe unless they have slim / minimalist cases on. Even with adjusting how you hold the X I find I hard it to believe people with small hands can whip around the X 1 handed like they do the 6/7. I was using the X with an Otterbox Symmetry case 100% of the time everyday for 2 weeks and couldn’t use the X 1 handed as fluid and securely as my 7 with the same case. If I was using an Apple case then yes I could get close enough to have kept the X. I’m not talking about using the X 1 handed in stable circumstances. Like standing on the bus holding onto to the rail type of thing or walking my dog while texting in a trail etc.

Too small
Notch
Empty space at bottom of keyboard
Expensive
No real innovation

I returned it the day I got it and keeping my 7+

You should have kept it at least for a week to see how it works for you. Just a day is not enough.By the way this is the first iPhone which I wanted to skip it but eventually bought it. Honestly speaking I am not happy watching videos on it. YouTube videos in original format show bars. And with Zoom in it cuts some amount of video which is OK for me. Can’t zoom in Amazon prime videos. But still I’m keeping it hoping that the video format issue will be resolved soon.

In the US we can get a device on interest free monthly payments such as AT&T Next. The difference in monthly payments with the X is about $7 more a month which is peanuts. I f’ing wanted to love the X but it didn’t fit my needs as a daily driver. If I sat at a desk and wore business casual then it would be different. I work outside in the elements and an important factor is secure 1 hand use. If I was sitting at a desk as my job I could use the X with 2 hands, be able to sit it on a wireless charger etc, can use a minimalist case like the Apple leather or silicone case vs a medium protective like an Otterbox Symmetry.

I see. At least you have the choice to try out the phone for 2 weeks.

If Apple had no return policy in the US, too, how many will like up to buy the phone?

Don’t know. This is the 1st time ever that I didn’t like the new release. And I’ve had the iPhone since the original. When I returned mine the Apple rep said they’ve gotten a lot of returns.

I know. Apple will probably resell at low prices. These could have been sold to countries with no return policy. Apple would have been made more money.

Actually they should not accept returns if stock is limited. This not like people are not having the option to try the phones at the store before buying.

People should make their decision if they will be keeping the phone or not before buying.

By accepting returns, people can buy without worry and use the phone for 2 weeks and then return the phone. It is like they had the phone free for half a month.

Most iPhone users I believe don’t have intentions of test driving for 2 weeks. I don’t know how many non iPhone users wanted to test drive the X. I’m an iPhone user and when I upgrade my intention was / is never to test drive. Even this time around with the X. I researched the specs to make sure it was the same size as my 7. The thing that I missed was it was the same size as my 7 with a Magpul case. I didn’t take into consideration X size with a similar type case. Minimalist cases like Apple case were close to same size as my 7 with Magpul. Used with the Apple case and it was f’ing FANTASTIC!

Then the weekend was over and the start of the work week. Quickly found out I needed a more protective case and I kind of new this. So I got an Otterbox Symmetry which is one of my favorite cases. Quickly found out that using a case like this changed the experience. Found it to be a little too big. Ok I’ll get used too it. Was standing in the bus one morning texting trying to use with 1 hand holding onto the bar. When the bus stopped the X flew out of my hand onto the floor and had to frantically try to grab it cause a load of people were getting off the bus. I noticed I couldn’t use the X as nearly as securely and with surety with 1 hand. Yes I could use it with 1 hand but only in situations where I was stable. I’m mostly mobile a lot in my job and outside of work.

I tried all different ways to hold the X with 1 hand while moving. Whip it out of my locket and start rocking with 1 hand. I said this has to work so I literally practiced throughout the day whipping out of my pocket and using it 1 handed. I said to myself all I need is reps lol and I’ll get it. Many times almost always I would whip it out and I would fumble it before I starting rocking, I even dropped it a couple times.

It’s very hard for me to believe that people who say they have small hands post here and say they have no problems using the X with 1 hand even with light / medium protective cases securely.

How can you reliably test Face ID in a store? You can’t. That’s why I bought one... and then had to return it when it became clear Face ID wasn’t going to be reliable for me.

I remember when iPhone 6 Plus was released, it took time for people to adjust to the big phone. Today there are people who prefer the big phone to the smaller one.

For me I find the iPhone X to be the perfect size doe one hand use.

Everyone has their own point of you and I respect yours.

Sorry, do you have any links to back and show it’s 90% (your feeling) of the people returning because of the price tag? Me doesn’t think so. It’s just the number you came up with. No one really knows the facts, but if you read Macrumor forums you will see that the numbers do not come up to 90%. I’ve returned mine not because of price. Return mine because of the UI, smaller keyboard, Notch taking up some of the visuals, and be width.

If the price of iPhone X was about $800 For the 256gb model would you have returned it?

I know for many price tag is not the main reason but because of the price tag, people are thinking harder to justify keeping the product.

Love mine. No intentions of returning it. Perfect screen size. Perfect phone size. I was getting sick of having a huge Plus.

Bulky. The X is streamlined and has a large screen.
