Why did they have to change the keyboard in 3.0?

I noticed it within 5 minutes of installing it last week, but i didnt create a thread regarding it because it doesn't matter / i couldn't possibly care less.
Why are all of you ripping this guy apart? He just noticed some changes.... stated his opinion... and you're all eating him alive.
Do you think he really feels his life is threatened because of this or that he can't sleep because of it? No, he just noticed a small change in the OS which is worth mentioning imo just for the sake of discussion...

People are probably ripping him apart because he sounds like he's whining about such a small issue that only he probably cares about.

If Apple has taught us anything it would be that they want the "developers" to test their beta to fix the kinks, but any UI changes or gripes may fall of deaf ears. Apple has spent a good 2 years not giving users the simple functions of copy & paste (for example). Do you really think they care if this kid finds the pop up letters and drop shadows odd/off/wrong?

And personally, i dont think the current keyboard is perfect. The popup keys sometimes don't pop up and there are other glitches.
The popups are fairly distracting as they are, what the heck is the difference between what you showed and how it is now?

That globe has been there since 1.x oh and it is to switch the language for the keyboard I.e. Chinese
I don't see it on my phone. Do you have to enable it or what?
Edit: Figured it out. You have to have at least two keyboards enabled in Settings > General > Keyboard.

As an echo to two previous posters, I can't understand why some of you take the time out of your day to write a belittling reply to a guy who's just asking a question. It's the history of posts by spaz. Every little cosmetic thing is a federal case it seems. The one where he was upset with an icon's look and wondered if he should upgrade to 3.0 in 3 months comes to mind.
Being critical of aesthetics are one thing but being OCD about every beta tweak is quite the other .

I'll be perfectly honest - I couldn't agree more with Spaz. I mean, come on.. those buttons are HUGE. It's like 'BAM!!' To account for this monstrosity, the least Apple COULD have done is sent everyone a 'LCD extension panel' which would then increase the size of that certain part of.. your iPhone screen..?! Then those enormous buttons wouldn't seem so large and I wouldn't have had to have read this thread :-/

I realize it's a beta, but I was really questioning why they had to make that small of a change to the keyboard for no reason and break other things in the process only to have more to fix. The previous keyboard worked flawlessly for me.
Do you know how many people, with jailbroken iPhones, had apps that allowed them to type in landscape mode? A-LOT! I was THRILLED that they finally put landscape for their messaging apps. If you don't like it simply don't tilt the phone on its side!!! Done, problem solved!
Nothing to do with the thread, but I wanted to applaud the correct use of the phrase, it's so rare to see.

The new letters are like the larger, less attractive friend that the old keyboard brings to the bar so she looks better.
