Well, I bought my Santa Rosa blackbook just after the Penryns came out, so it only cost me $1200 after tax and shipping (brand new). The processor difference is negligible, the 160gb HDD is enough for me, and I upgraded the RAM myself for about $45. All in all, a pretty good deal, and less ( especially if you take tax into account) than what I would have spent on a new mid-level white MB.

The black MacBook will get hotter outside too because it will absorb the sunlight. That could be a factor too in buying between the white and black.

I love the look of the blackbook... I feel like the shiny, white exterior of the base-level macbook looks cheap. If I only have to pay $100 extra so that I don't feel like I didn't get my moneys worth with a crappy looking plastic laptop, then I'm fine with that! In reference to the whole the black finish gathers more fingerprints and oil...well that is somewhat true but there is this new invention called a towel and it can be used to wipe all of that stuff off of the outside of the balckbook!! Wow...isn't that amazing...

Simply, it's a preference...and this thread is one of the most pointless treads ever

i went with black b/c my desk is black, my ipod is black, my iphone will be black. the big monitor i hook it up to is black, pretty much just to match everything else it would be around. plus that white apple on the back looks really good around a black laptop

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

I got mine from the refurb store, where it was only $50 more than the white one and came with a bigger HD. It would have cost me more to buy the white one and a bigger HD (although then I would have had an extra HD).

I like the black look more.

Plus I have friends who have white ones; having a black one distinguishes mine so that I don't pick up the wrong one.

I picked it up as a refurb the day of the last MB updates, so it was comparable in price to the newly-updated base-model white one.

Because the white macbook looks like a iBook...

and i have a very strong hate for iBooks.:D:rolleyes:

Also black is my favorite color, and I wanted the bigger hd.

I got mine because I got lucky with an open box discount at Best Buy. I only paid $50 more than the white, so I actually saved quite a bit of cash. But now that I have it, I love it and would pay full price for one in the future. I like the matte finish and it resists scratching much better than my white iBook did. I haven't had any finger print problems. They come right off. It still looks the same as the day I bought it.

To all the people who said this thread was pointless...Thanks for writing and thanks to the people who gave some humor to the thread. I was really just wondering. It doesn't make sense to me, I mean I can afford the blackbook but I would never buy it outta prinicpal. Also I disagree with the BMW vs. Honda the BMW wins hands down.

Because some people think it looks nicer and if they can afford it they buy it? Or because it doesn't scratch as much as white one?

Dumb thread...

its not that it doesn't scratch, its that you cant SEE the scratches. If you REALLY look into it in good light you can see some. On the white MacBook you can easily see marks and stuff in good light.

When I buy my macbook I can pretty much guarantee you that I will buy the black one. Some of it is due to specs but most of it is due to looks and the finish. I really don't like the trend of glossy plastic with a lot of consumer electronics these days (and I think a lot of it started with Apple). Some of it is because to me it just showcases dirt, grime, fingerprints, and dust and some of it because it feels like it's trying to scream, "look at me, I'm a chic and expensive piece of technology!" But, that's just a personal thing. And, like a lot of other people said, I don't care for the looks of the white macbook. If I can afford the one I prefer then why not.

Though I do have a question, how does the black macbook end up looking nasty? Everyone says it attracts fingerprints but to me I would think the glossy finish of the white would attract far more. Since I don't actually own one I was just curious. I've seen the white macbook display models with the palm rests turned gray but what happens to the black macbook over time?

I personally think that the black looks better but one should take into account that this is APPLE and one of the main reasons that anyone buys anything from them is how good it looks. As for the Blackbook I considered buying it but I went with the Air so I could use the words "Sexy" and "Computer" in the same sentence:D

If we're on a budget or poor, and just need features for the money (like me), we buy white. If you happen to have money to burn and like black, you buy black.

It's simple.

I used to own a black MacBook, trust me, it was nice. First off, it's not shiny. I don't like shiny things... if I could have bought my car in a matte finish, I would have. Secondly, I bought it in an Apple retail store, so I couldn't upgrade the white one. Thirdly, it was only $50 more for a sleeker looking laptop (IMO). Fourthly, when spending so much money on a computer, $50 or $100 is not a lot of difference.

In the end you're going to die, might as well splurge some of your money once in a while instead of keeping it in yer cold dead hands. :p

the black book does look cool but i wouldnt want one for after a few months of use youll get the keys wearing away and showing glossy and plus it will collect dust lol.
