Because black costs $100 more to color! No seriously, I went to the Apple store and asked a bunch of people why they bought the black and they said it was because it was the top end model with the best configuration--they have no idea.

I told them I was doing a survey..

Simple.

I could not stand anymore the white , after 3 ibooks , only negative I could find till now is the fact that when it gets dark I can´t see a s*** when trying to type on the keyboard ; solution : got a €3.- usb lamp :D

Other than that , It´s way easier to keep it clean :)

Saludos

Im getting a new macbook soon and would love a black one but they are way out of my price range and I don't need 250gb hdd

I think it looks nice. And I don't think its dyed black.

Some people prefer it in white, and they are quite happy with the pricing.
Some people don't care and buy white because it is cheaper. Some people prefer black a little bit, but not enough to spend more, and some prefer it a lot.

And then there are people who will _always_ buy the more expensive thing. The MacBook must be black, the mouse and keyboard must be wireless, the external hard drive must be FireWire and not USB, not for any good reason, but because it is more expensive. I don't mind if Apple takes their money.

There may be a case that some items are bought as presents, and whoever buys the present doesn't want to buy something cheap.

The black distinguishes it from my roommates' and friends' white ones, saving some of the confusion of grabbing the wrong person's MacBook. Wireless mice don't have issues with tangled cords; when you have a very messy desk, this is a huge help. Wireless keyboards I'm less fond of (my keyboard doesn't tend to move around much), so I'll pass on those. Firewire drives are faster and don't tax the CPU while doing transfers.

So, yes, I have good reasons. :)

I bought it because it doesn't scratch like the white one.

lies! (na, kidding). Seriously, I've been using the white MB for almost a year now and to be honest, there's hardly any visible scratches.

Like you said, I upgraded mine to the same specs like the black MB and I saved that bit of money for something else.

To me (maybe just me), I find that the black MB reminds me of IBM laptops which I had a bad impression with. The black MB/iPhone/iPod looks common - as there's not many white laptops/phones out there... +1 for the apple factor.

Other than that, I don't see any wrong in buying the black colour for more money, there's people buying it and that's why they're selling it. makes perfect sense.

I'd like to add that most people who buy Macbooks aren't familiar with the product lineup, like us MR followers are.

Before buying the MBP, I went in an apple shop and made the same stupid question of this thread. The answer was nice: the black macbooks have a different screen. Better, with more contrast. (It is true, I am not joking).

Tonight I will wear an armani jeans. It has the shame shape, color and functionality of the 5 euro jeans I was wearing yesterday: but it costed a lot more. Stupid answer to stupid question.

I bought mine black because I do not under any circumstances want to risk getting the nasty yellowing on my macbook after a while (And this has been reported even with the latest models) also yeah, I like the color better, and I have the money to spend on it. Why not? (Plus I love the way the white apple illuminates against the black background. It looks hot)

If I had the money I'd buy a Lotus Elise too, instead of a second hand Volkswagen when I finally get my car =D But alas.

Most people have white, I wanted something slightly different and I wanted the upgrades the Blackbook provides.

Matte black with the glowing white Apple > shiny glossy white all over

There is probably no real technical reasons for the price difference, but more of a marketing one. Charging more for the black creates an artificial scarcity, and makes it more appealing. Like buying cars, with all the different trim levels. Opting for the more expensive ones is supposed to make you feel 'special'.

As for keeping the MacBook clean, regardless of colour, I don't know why people get so hung up on it. You would wash your clothes; you would clean desk; you would wipe down tools after using them in the garage. So what makes the MacBook any different? You touched it, it gets dirty, so clean it up afterwards. Otherwise just go wear those clean-room bunny-suits.

Takes some hard wiping. I'm not sure how true it is but I heard the new black material is more resistant. My Blackbook is from late 2006.
It's not hard to wipe down at all. I just take a cloth and spray some windex on it and use it to wipe off the whole computer. Works perfectly and only takes a minute. Same thing I do with my Windows laptops. Takes a minute with them as well.

Yep- it's completely easy. I will say I have the new Penryn BlackBook though. I have heard that the finish is different on them.

Exactly - it's a status symbol. If you own a black macbook/expensive car/designer shirt, you show to people around you that you have enough money to buy something more expensive out of principle.

Some people take that as a bad thing, but if you think about it - we all do it at some level, especially with clothes. You get Levi's jeans for at least a hundred bucks, although you could get three no name pairs for $10 at a discount store, because people will judge you if you wear cheap clothes. I think this is much worse than buying an exact same computer that's more expensive just because of the colour.

:apple:

i brought the black macbook cause it just looks better!. my friend brought a white one about a week later and that now looks like crap.. its the same with the ipod. i have a black ipod because the white one looks cheap! i think soon Apple:apple: will move away from the white look and move towards the aluminum casings for all laptops..
