it's a color...

Hey, there's nothing wrong with just getting the color you like--people do it all the time with cars, dresses, computer bags, all sorts of stuff. So it works out to 100 bucks diff even after white's upgraded--that's just what Apple decided to do, "fair" or not.

If I get fed up with the waiting game, which looks increasingly likely, I'm getting the black because I like black. If anything, I'd like the chance to get it with the smaller HD for a price break.

Hell, when I think of all the money I waste on booze, coffee, and all manner of vices ;), 100 bucks for a machine that'll serve me for at least two years ain't nuthin.

Black is not actually a colour. Black is the absence of light while white is combination of all colours. ;)

True, but in terms of pigments/dyes/paints, it's the exact opposite.

Black is the combination of all colors while white is the absence of all colors. That way, the black object will absorb all of the light and reflect no light, while white absorbs no light and reflects it all back.

it's nicer looking, and shows some smudges but they come off pretty easily. the white ones get dirty, and stay dirty. i hate that brown on white look, i can deal with wiping off smudges every once in a while.

and i just ordered a blackbook yesterday, so I hope that what i just said is true... :D

So shouldn't the White Macbook be cooler(temperature) than the Blackbook since white reflects heat?

Not unless you have it in direct sunlight or very high ambient temperature. Black is best for heat emission so Blackbook should run noticeably cooler. Any real world measurements to verify this?

I got it because it was an upgrade. My old white MB died (after 7 trips to the genius bar,) and the only replacement they had was a Black one. It doubled everything in my computer. :D I have to say, as long as you clean it, it still looks great. Mine looks like when I first got it, I've just had to clean it occasionally. ;)

Since Black absorbs all colors and reflects nothing, it is the absence of color. Since white reflets everything back for us to see, it is all colors.

For Example:

A simple leaf is green. this means that the leaf absorbs all the colors but green. the color reflected is the color we percieve. Sorry if that was muddled...

Wow. REALLY off topic...

Anyway, I realy like black. the white apple contrasting the black body is pure awesomeness. I think I will conform to blind consumerism and get a black one.

Variety is the spice of life. Black macbook, white mackbook?
White Porsche, Black Porsche? Blonde, Brunette? And life continues on.

I think the lond/brunette comparison has meritt.

Why do some brunetts dye bleach their hair every 4 weeks (at $50 or more a pop) instead of just keeping their brown hair? It's only a color, after all...

lond LoL it is not just a colour it is a known fact that Blondes have more fun than any other hair colour (Well it's a known fact down here in my area).

I love the sweeping generalisations you get on threads like this. I bought a black Macbook because I like the colour and after years of white iBooks/Macbooks, I think its a nice change. Simple as that :)

I don't think I would buy the black one if they were the same price. I like the white better

Because black shows the white apple logo even better, so everyone is certain you have a macbook

Because black is just as sexy as white

Note, white macbooks aren't for poor people :(

I bought the black MacBook for many reasons:
  • I think it looks better than the white one
  • I prefer the matte finish to the glossy finish
  • The black one is slightly more 'exclusive' (my college is full of white ones, but mine is the only black one
  • Having a black border around the screen makes it look brighter
  • I like the contrast with the bright white Apple logo
  • I had the money
I'm going to be looking at this MacBook nearly every day for the next 2-3 years. How can anyone call me an idiot for spending an extra £60 for the one I prefer?

I don't think anyone is calling someone who buys a black macbook an idiot. I mean I would say anyone who has the money to buy a macbook in the first place could afford the extra $100 for the black but to me for apple to charge $100 more for the macbook to be black isn't totally right. Also I don't think most people even realize that you can just upgrade the white 2.4 to 250gbs and have the same computer for $100 less.
