Data Mining

Chrome sends all data back to Google... It really depends on how much you really trust Google's privacy policy... Personally, Gmail has enough of my data and Chrome goes too far.

I see more people loving Chrome than anything. I've yet to use it myself, but I'm boring and just tend to stick with the system default browser if it works for me, which it always has done.

Seriously, even on threads that are about something like a Safari update, it just gets littered with Chrome lovers announcing that Chrome is the best. Nothing to do with Safari I know, but they obviously feel that they can post off topic because they use Chrome.

No problems with Chrome. I use it on all my macs and it runs like a dream. Still can't find an extension or hack to change the bookmark icons to text only though ;)

I can install Google Chrome at school, and it bypassed Windows 7 UAC on a hotel computer too. I want a CR-48 too but couldn't get into the trial since I live in Canada :(

The first part is cool  , but the second part sucks for you. :( Maybe you could try buying one on eBay?

My main reason for disliking (not hate) Google Chrome is the lack of Keychain support. Storing login password in cleartext without any password protection is plain wrong and insecure.

Apart from that I quite like it.

My beef is that the plugin system is flaky. Half the time when I click 1Password's icon I have to do so a few times before I see any visible response. It does the same for others.

The other I have is it randomly locks up, especially with Forum Spy.

I just don't like the interface, icons, and search bar of chrome. All i want it a browser with a url bar and tabs. I don't want anything else and so far Safari is the closest to that. And i just can't be bothered to switch to Chrome for no benefit and unfamiliar development tools.

There are political reasons not to like Chrome (the famous story of how Google backstabbed Apple and built Chrome based on Apple's WebKit open source project instead of supporting the development of Safari, the privacy/tracking issue, the bundling of Flash issue, etc).

However, about the only user reason not to like Chrome is it's not very Mac-like (in terms of UI -- browser-based preferences instead of native app preferences, wasted space above tabs, doesn't support keychain, doesn't support many OS X core frameworks, etc).
It supports the Keychain, in fact that's how it stores passwords.

As for the UI, it's more Mac-like than Firefox.

Does someone want to explain to me what Chrome is gathering that's so secretive and dangerous to the user's privacy?

I don't know if you guys know this, but Chrome isn't vacuuming up your browsing history or your credit card information or your passwords. You can sleep at night without fear of Eric Schmidt snickering at your masturbatory habits while registering you for a new android phone. ;)

In fact, chances are that every single person who has ever harped on Chrome's "data collection" has freely handed over much more of their personal data to Facebook. Personalized ads and search results, so very threatening.

The only reason I don't use chrome, is because of the google update agent that runs in the background, at random times, checking for updates. I don't like software auto updating. So, I use chromium instead. Although it's not always as stable, at least I can update it when I want to. :)

Really? That's one of the reasons why I like Chrome. No hassle updating.

From today youtube stopped showing videos inside chrome. I tried to disable hardware acceleration but menu is not showing up.

I'm in a dilemma, I love the look of chrome, the lighter style, etc over Safari, but I love my click to flash and my other extensions

That's what I have with Chrome right now. Granted I have my bookmarks bar up but I can easily disable that and just have the tabs and URL bar. Of course you're going to have the forward/back/refresh though. I hid my home button.

if all u use flash for is videos, then u do not even need to install flash on your computer as chrome will process them and play them for u.

Best thing about chrome is the unified address/search bar.

I always laugh when I look at screenshots of the other browsers that still have a search bar.

Totally agree. Why other browsers haven't made this the default is beyond me. Just makes my browsing experience more enjoyable to know I have one address bar for search AND URL's.

Chrome FTW! :D

I moved to Chrome when I got tired of Safari's beach balls , haven't seen one since.:cool:

Me, too. Something happened to Safari, and it became unusable. I don't know if it was moving to extensions instead of plugins or what, but it beachballed for me on every launch.

The only time now that I have problems with Chrome is if I launch and there's no Internet connection. Apple needs to do something big with Safari on Lion if I'm going to be able to go back to it.

I prefer Firefox for its amazing plugin support, and frankly don't care much for the minimalist look of Chrome. It does seem fast, but the new FF 4 is VERY nice, and I love the app tab feature - I *always* have like 5-7 "standard" tabs open, then 5+ random ones as I search throughout the day. Very handy feature for me :)

If you want to use Chrome without all the tracking, check out the FreeSMUG build of Chromium.

My only issue with user installed browsers, given that the browser is the most vulnerable client-side app, is that they are not owned by system and therefore the user that installed the browser has write privileges without authentication to the app bundle which is less secure than apps owned by system where the system only has write privileges to modify the app bundle. This issue is common in single user systems but it can be eliminated by manually changing ownership of the app.
