More of a want than a need, though since the 4 is my office line as a remote employee, I would prefer fewer dropped calls.

Like others here, I don't consider it a waste, and when the next phone is released, I will upgrade again.

I was the first 10 to get an iPad 2 on the release day in my area so I wanted to try to get the iPhone launch day also.

I just want it on launch day cause I'm going to see the Foo Fighters on the 14th and would like to use the new camera.

It's tradition. Yet, this year I'm waiting till members of this forum confirm it's capable of functioning properly as a phone without having to be covered with a case. I hate putting a great looking phone in a case.

I'd like to have it on day one because this is my first pre order and I want to be able to experience that high getting an Apple product on day one :apple:

...And some people put them in the most awful, ugly, bulky cases...

Poor iPhones :(

I love the look of the iPhone 4(S), but I like my phone functioning more. I don't go to the Apple Store that often, but when I do, I ALWAYS see people with iPhone's with cracked screens trying to get them replaced. I don't want to be part of that group. I don't buy an iPhone as a status symbol. I buy it because I think it's the best platform for mobile phones. And I want to use it.

Are the iPhones more fragile than most touchscreen phones? Because my current Samsung touchscreen gets dropped by me all the time in the house, and nothing happens except the battery and the back cover comes off. When I drop it on the concrete it gets nothing but scratches. Good ol' Sammy!

I'm sure there are plenty of stories about people dropping their phones and their phones surviving. But there are also plenty where the end-result was a broken screen. I think there are plenty of case out there that don't look bad, and I personally don't want to risk it and will take the necessary precautions to avoid a costly repair bill. Although AppleCare+ does mitigate that a bit.

Cause my plan ends October 13 at 12:01 AM.
I dont know how, but I got my prepaid plan EXACTLY a month before the iphone launch hehehehehe.
-rubs crystal ball-

All I'm worried about is scratching the screen. I'll put a screen protector on it, but I reckon its worth the risk to have a slimmer and more attractive phone

I am a current user of the "back in black razor" sometimes I wish I rather not have not have a phone. Thats why I need the 4s the day it comes out :D

Nice, what gig phone are you getting?

because the price won't change and if you are going to get one you might as well minimise your depreciation and get it asap

okay so wait, If i sell my iphone 3GS after i get the ihpone 4s...how much could i sell it for...? i got it the day it came out!

So.... you try to insult us with this thread before doing any research, and now it sounds good and you want insight?

It's hard enough waiting. I'll have to settle for getting mine a few days after though, since I'm in Australia and apparently Vodafone only gets them close of business Friday.

I need it the day it comes out because I plan to squeeze a full life out of it until the 5S (or whatever) comes out.

Because apple has indoctrinated us all to want their products as soon as they are released.

Simple really, and i'm comfortably numb being this way.

:apple:

Okay, So I see a lot of threads on here like omg I am not going to get my iPhone 7-14 days, and like everyone has to go out and wait in lines to get the iPhone 4S on Oct 14?

So why is that you have it the day it comes out!? It's not like you don't have an iPhone already.

I sold my 4. So I don't have an iPhone.

Like many here, I certainly don't need it on Friday, but I'm excited to use Siri. Frankly, while I'm very excited for the upgraded camera, it's not like I don't get better shots with my real camera rig (I'm a serious photographer), but it will be nice to have a quality P&S quality camera in my pocket when I don't want to carry my kit with me.

I also don't really need the extra speed, though it will be nice.

I will be grateful for the extra 16 GB I'm getting with the 4S over my 4, but it's not like I'm going to explode with out it.

But I am pumped for Siri. Siri is basically why I got the 4S. Well, that and because my wife doesn't really care about upgrades, I essentially have the ability to get the newest iPhone on launch from here on out. I used my upgrade (which I was eligible for in September) on the 4S. My wife is eligible in December. She has no desire for the 4S, and frankly isn't really even excited to be getting my 4 once my 4S gets here (she has a 3Gs). So I'll always get the new one, and pass it down to her. So when the 5 is out, I'll grab that...provided Apple keeps releasing quality products, of course.

But no, I won't explode if I don't get it Friday...but I WANT it Friday. (And I should have it Friday...mine has shipped!)

I would understand if this was the iPhone 5, but a 4S?! Come on people. You dont need to have a spec bump on day one. The only reason you should want it on Day One is to show it off to everyone you know proclaiming, "I got the Newest iPhone on DAY ONE!!!"

But hey, guess what? The 4S looks identical to the 4. I feel bad for those getting a 4S on Friday, becuase next summer they will be deep into a contract when the ALL-NEW iPhone 5 is released. Sucks for you guys. Welcome to the iPhone "S" release cycle. It sucks and you will dread being on the bandwagon in about a year!

Because I have a waaaay overdue for upgrade. I have the 8 gig original release iPhone 3G now in black, and it's substantially more than a 'speed bump' for me. I look forward to my white 64 gig iPhone 4S.

It's new and I want it. That's pretty much it.

Works for me, and I did laugh at the people who expected to walk into a store release afternoon, or soon after release and ger an iPhone 4, or iPad 2. Sure some stores had them if you wanted a contract, but the vast majority did not have them freely available for weeks.

We actually enjoyed lining up, and this time we actually get the iPhone before the USA, thanks to timezones ;)
