For people who still want a smaller iPhone... the 4S will still be available, which could be their thought process.

It depends really. Some people actually like to keep their phones small. If Joe Blow wants something that doesn't take up his whole pocket he may gravitate towards the iPhone. If he doesn't mind a huge phone he'll look at an S3.

I like the S3 screen but it's like most Samsung screens. The colors are too vivid and not realistic. Great for looking at the demo units but not so great for those looking at realism.

There are different color settings in the display menu to have different levels of saturation and contrast. The demo units are units are usually on the vivid setting as most consumers prefer better than life colors. If you don't like them out can switch the setting. Also the newer super amoled screens are not nearly as bad as the superamoled+ screens in the s2 as far as overblown colors. I prefer the look of even the pentile galaxy nexus screen over the retina display.

No its not the same. Apple would have big trouble trying to have all the apps scale to 1280x720. You really need to code and use android extensively to see what I mean.

MLG is still fundamentally correct. Auto Layout (which is now in iOS and OS X) allows developers to define their boundaries of the elements in their app so that they shift, grow or shrink. This along with 1x, 2x artwork should be able to handle dealing with localizations and different resolutions.

I don't think it will be a factor until perhaps next year. Going forward I see really only 4 resolutions on iOS devices

480 x 320
960 x 640
1024 x 768
2048 x 1536

Though give it 2 years I bet there will be more iOS resolutions to deal with.

MacRumors rumors are never correct.

Last year they didn't know what it looked like. And the funny thing is, it was made from the exact same parts.

I happen to be one of those people that loves Samsung's processing on their HDTV :D

The only other TV that gave me the same wow effect where the high end Pioneer Plasma.

I'd love to think this same way but at the same time, many people have said that apple doesn't need to change a proven design that is making them money.

that's what RIM thought too.

Apple are known for innovation. The above leak shows no innovation. If the innovation is in iOS then open it up to other handset manufacturers like Google did with Android.

Rehashing the iPhone 4 now for a 3rd time shows incredible short sightedness. Iphone 4 took Apple into the stratosphere with its sales (bearing in mind the iPhone is Apples' no 1 top selling unit), now it a numbers game. As fast as people got rapidly excited, they can as quickly get apathy where Apples product is concerned.

Beware.

The leaks are fake. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

If they were real, we would hear familiar stories about people being arrested.

Now, I may be totally wrong and this elongated phone just may be the new phone, but we all have to form an opinion. My opinion........Apple will present something different from the long phone.

Its not the same as android which was designed from the beginning to work regardless of the devices resolution. Auto layout requires the app to be recompiled and still only works with the layouts currently used. The problem with iOS handling multiple resolutions is that when Apple first coded it they never considered the fact that they may move to another resolution from 480x320. Therefore they coded everything to work in absolute coordinates. Without completely rewriting the layout engine to work independently of resolution there solution will always be a bandaid and require some sort of steps to be taken by the developer when a new resolution is used.

the only reason someone was "Arrested" was because a prototype was STOLEN from a bar. a secret prototype was stolen and SOLD.

the video Gizmodo made of the iPhone 4 is still up on YouTube, and was up after the whole incident. so were the pictures....

You obviously don't know what you're talking about.
The size of the phone will stay the same. It's the bezel that will change.

Get your facts right.

I'd like to chip in as one of those people. I don't have small hands by any means and I do a lot on my phone other than talking and texting and after using several Android phones (Evo, GS3) I prefer the smaller screen of the iPhone. Having to stretch for one-handed operation is frustrating. Obviously I don't speak for the majority here but I think Apple definitely found the sweet spot.

What are you talking about?? Someone mentioned "Some people still don't want a larger phone"

My response: They will still off the iPhone 4S (and probably the 4) just like they are now to have less expensive options for people who want an iPhone but do not need the latest and greatest. Now, they will be less expensive and smaller. I also said "Which could be their thought process"

So.. please tell me... what is it that I do not know?? and when did I act like I had the absolute correct answer?

Lets be honest, the real reason why people don't believe we've seen the next iPhone is because the majority (at least from what I've seen) does not like the aspect of it being taller and not wider AND taller.

Because of that, the easiest way to get over the disappointment of it is just by saying you don't believe when you REALLY know it's real somewhere in your heart.

I'm sure we'll all eventually get used to the "tall iPhone" but for now, it looks a little silly in such a long form. Like it's too narrow.

It feels good to hope it wont be the only taller version... I am well prepared for the disappointment I will feel if we get this elongated, two-toned phone. I do not like either aspect of it... The only taller part and the two-tone... Not a fan

I agree with this assessment.

Let's get something clear....

Everyone who is saying that it is the next iPhone is in the same place as us hoping it's not.

NOTHING has been confirmed.

They're only "leaks" and who's to say one person came out with this leak and others took it and made it ther own leak?

I'm hoping it's not the new iPhone but if it is then okay, I'll get over it. It's just a phone.

But we shouldn't say these so called leaks are legit because they're leaks and not CONFIRMED.

One thing for sure, whether you think it is the iphone or not, September 12th can't come soon enough :)

in that case I apologize. I understand everyone's pain.

well hey, maybe Apple does have something up their sleeve..

Apple and Foxconn take these types of leaks seriously obviously. Here is an article on the three employees arrested for leaking the design of the iPad 2.

I can 100% guaranteed you that's not the new iphone.
Steve jobs worked with this one and he would never approve the iphone 4 designe for the 4th year.

People don't want to believe the rumors because the new design totally sucks and is way behind the competition.

However, I'm totally convinced that the 4" taller iPhone with a smaller dock port is totally what we will be seeing. It is EXACTLY like Apple to make the most minimal design change they can and still get people to buy the phone. A slight bigger phone is still bigger, and iOS dedicated people will buy it just because of anything at all new and Apple has always known that.

It's worked for them very successfully in the past and I'm not sure why they would change this philosophy now. However, given the strength of the competition this year, I'm not sure how much this is going to fly these days, but we'll see. One thing I DO know that this can't go on much longer or Apple will start losing signifcant share.

Also note, they probably need a short term solution around still calling the phone "retina" now that they've made such a big deal about that, so if they kept the same resolution and increased screen size to 4.3"+, that would be an issue, and doubling resolution is not feasible at this point. They also know that they needed to be more in line with the current narrower taller trends in aspect ratio, especially for video viewing. Lastly, they needed a transition plan for developers to adopt the new resolution / aspect ratio. All that points to a slight taller, same width phone with just an extension of the pixel density to the taller frame (technologically doable) and have the same "retina" pixel density, that would run the old aspect ratio apps the same size as as before (just black bars at the top and bottom), and allow for developers to transition to the extra vertical space prior to going to an evenn larger screen.

That's what people thought when they saw the iPhone 4 design. "This is not like Apple!"

This is different. This the same design they announced for the 4....
No way this real, If so iphone is finished & they'll deserve it
