Why don't you like the 5c

Stylistically I actually prefer 5c over 5s for the most part. But 3 issues made me get 5s for my wife:
  • Old tech (A6 instead of A7, no M7, no auto image stabilization, smart burst mode, and slow motion on camera)
  • No Touch ID
  • Black front face (most color combinations would look better with a white face)
Having said that, 5c just feels better in my hand than 5s. But 5c just photographs poorly. In person, I think many people are and will be surprised.

Completely agree. I feel like MANY more people would buy the 5C if they had the white front option.

In my case the issue is capacity; I simply need more than 32 GB. That's also why I didn't get a Nexus 5 (not helped by the fact that the NZ distributor decided to only sell the 16 GB model!)

Thing is though, it's the exact same price point that the exact same tech would have always been if Apple had followed years of normal practice and just dropped the iPhone 5 down a SKU.

Right except that the 5 is a premium casing, is thinner and lighter and the 5c is plastic and bigger and heavier. I don't have a problem with the plastic itself, but that combined with the old tech should have been less expensive than what it is. I find the 5c inferior to the 5, so to me keeping the 5 around at the price the 5c came in at would have been a better deal.

I think the reason I'm not so "anti 5c" is because here in the UK it's free on most tariffs from £32 to £37 per month with unlimited calls & texts and either 2GB 3G or 1GB 4G data. The 5s is also free in the UK if you push your tariff to £42 per month but on the same £32 to £37 per month tariffs you're looking at anywhere between £119 to over £200 for a 5s.

I know what people are saying about it being old tech and not as premium as the 5, and they are right on both counts. However what I don't get is the mentality of the "Apple community" to knock the phone continually and more so to almost ridicule those who have one, as if it's an inferior product or an embarrassment to be seen with.

My iPhone 4s contract upgrade is due in March so right now I'm happy to sit and see what deals come my way then for the 5s, but with a £2000 holiday to Sorrento with my wife in September 214 to pay for by June, my wife's 30th in March, and my Wedding anniversary in April, money will be rightly prioritised elsewhere.

If the 5c remains free on similar or better tariffs than my current £37 per month (I refuse to spend more than that per month) and the 5s continues to be require over £100 up front then I'll most likely end up going with a 5c.

Not really.

Think about it, the new iPhone is only 2x faster than the iPhone 5c.

But the iPhone 5c and 5s are both 40x faster than the original iPhone.

Uhhh..if the 5s is 40x faster then the original iphone then the 5c would only be 20x faster than the original.

Unless you meant, the 5c is 40x faster then the original (which its not) and the 5s being 80x faster (which its not).

I voted, old tech, no touch ID and price.

Thinking about it though, it's actually just price that I don't like. I completely understand Apple wanting a product less capable than their premium product, so I understand no touch ID no new tech chip etc.

The problem is they did all these things (plastic, old tech etc) and didn't chop the price down massively.

It's almost a budget phone without the budget price!

It depends because the CPU is what's 40x faster. In tests, the 5c and 5s are the same speed. Saying that the A7 is 2x faster... faster at what?

These performance boosts are very minimal about 0.15 percent. It's all marketing.

it's stupid to pay 550$ a 1 year old piece of tech.... more stupid to be locked in a 2 year contract saving 100 and getting an old model instead of the latest...simply no?
The LTE chip is brand new
The unibody poly shell is one of a kind and awsome to hold, there is nothing a year old about the 5c

There's no way it's a budget phone. The hardware is to good . Now if it had the insides of a 4s then you would have had a budget phone.

Look had Apple kept the 5 this discussion wouldn't happen and I'd be without LTE for another year because I despise the ugly form factor of the 5/5s

Why don't you like the 5c?

The 5c is a great phone. I was going to get one, and I had a 5 before this. I was at the store to buy a blue one, but I really wanted 32gb and all they had was 16, so being impatient as I am, I bought a 5s. I don't regret it, but the 5c is great. My co-worker has a 5c and it seems just as fast as the 5s for everyday use. Those who don't like it most likely have never handled it or used it. It is much better to use/handle than the metal if you aren't using a case, which is what the 5c is all about.

I skipped over the 5 and bought another 4S six months after my contract expired on AT&T. Didn't think the 5 was a good enough upgrade at the time and so with only a different look, I still didn't consider it when I bought my 5S.

Remember this?

As long as there is a better iPhone to get (iPhone 5S), then the C won't interest me. That doesn't mean that the iPhone 5C isn't a good phone. I find this poll to be a little bit meaningless...

I like the 5C but at that price, I would just pay the extra for the 5S. If it was a little less, it would make it more enticing to buy.

Sure, but what's the point? I could post a picture of a 1978 Ford Pinto and say remember this? Same thing. There is a reason why Apple dropped plastic and quite frankly there will be a reason why they drop it again.....

It's just funny how things have changed. People didn't seem to mind plastic the first time, but now when Apple tries to reboot the iPhone, people don't really want it.

I bought the 5c, but returned it. I really don't think I would buy it again. It has terrible resale value.

I remember that. I have one.

Guess what? It's black! No bizarro colors I don't want.

And while Apple might have marketed it as the better phone during it's day, Apple was NOT using terms like "premium" plastic!

People didn't mind because back then Apple wasn't implying that plastic was premium and that plastic was better than metal.

I still have mine. One thing I don't miss was the bad cracking around the USB port and sim card slot. Every 3G/3GS I had no matter what color had cracks.

I was watching Modern Family and Phil was using the lime green iPhone 5C. It looked good!

Personally I'd like it more if the face was white and not black. That option, along with a midnight blue body would probably win me over.

Here's what people on these forums don't understand.

A majority of smartphone users upgrade every two years. That being said, the 5C and 5S were really targeting owners of the 4S - not the 5. Perhaps the difference between the 5 and 5C is minimal - but you have to look at it from the perspective of someone upgrading from the 4S.

My contract is up and I'm your average AT&T/Verizon/Sprint customer. I want to upgrade my smartphone because I have an upgrade available. (FYI - in my case, I'm on a family plan in which my line with grandfathered unlimited data, unlimited texts and 1400 shared rollover minutes costs me $50/month). I don't plan on ditching my contract because for me, its a great deal.

I go in and look at what's available. I prefer iOS and Apple so my choices are either the 5C or 5S. One is $99 while the other is $199. I think the fingerprint sensor and faster processor just aren't worth any extra money and the 5C is faster than the phone I have. I also happen to like the build and feel of the 5C and the colors.

You'll also find lots of people who are on family or share plans who have kids and saving $100 on useless tech is a no-brainer. What if I have 3 kids - all teenagers and they're eligible for upgrade? I'm saving $300 then (even more if I buy at Walmart).

The fact a phone came out last year with similar internals means next to nothing to the average "upgrade every two years" consumer. Many will look to save the extra money. I've actually seen quite a few iPhone 5Cs around.

Hell - if I could get one on the cheap ($350 or less), I'd jump on it just because. I tend to sell my iPhones/devices each year to subsidize annual upgrades and having a 5C as a backup would be nice. Plus I actually quite like the build.....its feels really nice in the hand and I'm particularly fond of the green one.
