Why don't you like the 5c

Ya me too. Love both color I got the blue just because I fell in love with that first but every now and then, I go to apples website and admire the green wishing I had it... But it was super hard to choose.

I know right? That green was beautiful too. I work at Boost Mobile and we only had the blue in stock though (Pink and white too but that's a no for me). Since the blue was the first to catch my eye as I'm the one who put it in inventory, I went ahead and chose it. Apple knew that those colors gave people like myself more choices. That it would peak our interest. After having the latest and greatest in an Android, I was simply enamored with the beautiful color that stands out amongst the sea of white, black, and various shades of blah.

Sure it can't compare to my Note III. However, I didn't buy it to play on the same field. I had different expectations. None of which it has let me down on... =)

Other than the things mentioned already (color, iOS 7, plastic, etc) my main dislike of the 5c stems quite a bit from the dislike of the 4 and the 4s and what I see as a betrayal by Apple.

The iPhone 5 was my first iPhone. I saved a portion of our tax refund for about eight months in order to get it. Metal, black, everything I wanted.

I hate the 4 and the 4s with a passion. I waited a year for Sprint to get the iPhone 5 because the first iPhone they get when they finally get the iPhone are these two models I don't like!

I expected Apple to shift the iPhone 5 down in price as a lesser model this year just like the did with the 4 when the 4s came out and just like they did with the 4s when the 5 came out.

I did NOT expect them to do this, wrap the metal 5 in a new plastic case, make it look fugly with uninteresting colors (and NO BLACK) and then upgrade the internals a bit! Nor did I expect Apple to market it as NEW!

And insult to injury, the iPhone 4s was given another year of life!!!

So what this tells me is that Apple values the 4s more than the iPhone 5, which was it's flagship for a year. I resent that because I see the iPhone 5 as the superior model to the 4 and the 4s. But Apple apparently thinks the iPhone 5 wasn't good enough to leave alone, but the inferior 4 and 4s was.

All of this is what I feel. The reality is that Apple had issues with the annodization of the iPhone 5, so turning it into the 5c and reducing the cost to build it by using inferior plastic, made sense to them. Despite the fact that I hate the 4 and the 4s, the world still seems to love these phones (I have no idea why) and Apple still makes money from them, so keeping the 4s around still makes Apple money.

Apple is a business and like any business, exists solely for the purpose of making it's stockholders money. So, my feelings are irrelevant to Apple's bottom line.

I will make my obligatory statement here that I don't look down on anyone who likes or wants the 5c (or the 4 and 4s). It's just that these phones are not for me. I like my iPhone 5. I did NOT get the 5s because Apple chose not to have one in black this year. Major dealbreaker for me.

However, as I have said in one other thread, when Apple finally kills off the 4 and the 4s - I will dance a jig on their graves!

To be fair the 5 and 5s are mere evolutions of the iPhone 4 and 4s designs. In fact from the front the 5 looks like a taller iPhone 4/4s. It's not until you see the back that you notice the real difference (and even then it has glass inserts top and bottom). Even the antenna band, anodised or not, is near identical with the little antenna separate "slits".

If I'm being honest, and this isn't intended to be cheeky or a dig, it sounds like you resent the 4s because it's still sold and the iPhone 5 was discontinued. I feel your pain on being left with a discontinued device so soon, as I was an iPad 3 owner ... but I did upgrade to the 4.

I will grant you that there are of course, similarities. As you say, look at it face-on and the 5 appears to be just a taller version of the 4/4s.

That aside though, I really do not care for the stainless steel band. And the 4 and 4s are still not as thin as my 5.

I do resent the 4s. So, no offense taken, you read that correctly. I resent it for the reasons you mention. And that's also why I resent the 5c.

However, the resentment is a later issue that is just additional to what I originally disliked about the 4s. I'm sorry, but take the 4s and put it in a neon colored bumper and I just do not see the attraction. Again, just my opinion. One of the guys I work with has the 4s. He's a nice guy so I don't pick on him about it, but he's also smart enough to use a solid black bumper for this phone. Doesn't improve the looks, but neither does it detract. I respect him for that.

Cases with the 4 and 4s are an entirely different hotbutton issue with me. And those Connect 4 cases for the 5c - oh man! :D

I appreciate you replying but the bit in bold just baffles me. I don't get why you sound so proud that you don't "pick on" someone because of the phone they have?

And the 5 and 5s still have a steel band for the antenna, it's just anodised! They use the same antenna band technology.

Because normally, I'd give people I work with a ribbing about their phones. Trash talk and the like, all good natured of course. I work for a small company (less than 15 employees) so we all know each other and talk smack about various things, phones being one of them.

But he's such a nice guy I don't have the heart to rib him about it, even in fun.

No, I'm not a vicious hater making sure everyone knows I hate X or Y and then proudly restraining myself when I wish. Didn't mean to imply that. Just because I resent or don't like a product does not mean I crush others for using or having it. That wouldn't be right.

OK! I get you on that one. But, none of the anodization has rubbed off on mine (other than a few small nicks and some wear and tear along one edge where the glass meets the metal. Sure, it will probably all rub off at some point, but by then I'll probably be on the iPhone 7 or so.

Again fair dues, appreciate you having an actual discussion with me ... it's rare on here!

As I've said in another thread my only "issue" with the 5c is the way some 5s owners look down on owners of the device in this sneering, elitist manner. Again, as I also said elsewhere, I'm actually leaning more toward the 5c than the 5s when my upgrade comes round in March, which is the first time I've not focused solely on the top end device ... there's something I like about it when I hold and use it.

My only fear about taking out a contract with a 5c is the longevity. Will it run iOS 8 as well as it runs 7? The 4s runs iOS 7 fine and ran iOS 5 and 6, so I suppose it will, but ...

Yeah, that it is sometimes. But reasonable people can have reasonable discussions without resorting to personal attacks. If we have a difference of opinion, well that's all it is.

Well, I've aired my issues on the 5c, so I will not belabor the point. We all have different likes and dislikes. If the 5c is what you and others like, that's great. It works for you. I prefer my 5, but again, that's just me.

Some of my friends on here have the 5c and by now know my opinion about it. But I don't look down on them for having it. We just happen to have different viewpoints of what we consider to be premium. No big deal.

Well, my 3GS (black plastic, by the way, LOL) runs iOS 6 (quite well too) and the 5 was speculated to be able to run iOS 8. So, I imagine the 5c which has tweaked internals should do better in that regard.

Oh yeah, I do wish there was a black 5c because that would look superb. As it stands I'm quite liking the blue one, but I think a black one would look really sleek.

Yeah, that was one of my head scratching moments. All those colors (none of which I like) but no black? Seriously?

A black 5c would go a long way to getting over that resentment I mentioned! :D

Black sure would be pretty too since they've got only a "Space grey" in the 5s that's not quite as powerful as a midnight would be.

I don't think people dislike it, I think it's more of 5c vs 5s is a $100 difference, so people just prefer the extra features the 5s comes with for a slight price increase. Both are great devices, the 5s is just a better device.

I know, I may just stick with the c line if they keep it when the 6s comes out alongside a possible 6c???

I would be totally be all for going for the 6c. Even if it had 5s specs. As long as it was colorful and a slight upgrade hardware wise, I'd go for it.
