Sorry I don't wish the pre well. I loath companies who do not respect IP and the black hat type hacking to make iTunes syncing work says it all about this desperate grubby dying company.
When apple disable iTunes the protestations will really start but be warned that this feature is temporary so buy a pre at your own risk.

well who cares about itunes sync when programs like doubletwist exist?

ok for the last time yes they are MY opinions but if you pay attention to the links

THEY ARE PRE USERS OPINIONS OF THE PHONE !!!!!!!!!!

PRE USERS

you guys are acting like i am making this up.. these comments i made come from PRE USERS!!!!!!!!!

also why would i get banned???? because you dont agree with my opinions ???

i am NOT calling anyone names on here just stating why i dont like the pre

.. before the pre was released SOOOO many people on here were shoving it down everyones throat that PRE does this better and this better and its going to be so much better at this and this and battery life is great and multitasking

but when it came down to preform thoes tasks that "looked" so good on paper it couldnt do it..

and to me this is really funny

also i am in NO WAY threatened by the pre.. hands down apples iphone is the best and will remain that way PERIOD

I can agree with that.

Palm does not "hack" iTunes in any way, the Palm Pre pretends to be an iPod to trick iTunes into thinking it is an iPod.

And what the heck does that have to do with anything? Competition has already stirred innovation! Two years ago, Palm had a dying old OS that sucked, and now, because of the iPhone, they have a great mobile OS to use on future platforms.

I agree it's unfortunate they decided to falsely represent the Pre to iTunes, but give them credit for what they have accomplished.

Dude they are hacking itunes, you can spin it all you want, its hacking.

And yet people make all sorts of excuses for Apple's "Rev A" devices. The Pre is a very capable little device, and I think that's why there is so much hate around these forums. People are feeling threatened for some stupid reason.

No people are just sick of having the Pre shoved down their throats on an iphone forum on a daily basis. If you want to talk about why the Pre kills the iphone like the folks at Palm and their investors have been saying, you can go join the Palm forums.

I don't think the PRE will fail, but rather it won't have the instant killer iPhone success that some palm fanboys were hoping for

Don't forget about the problems the iPhone had when they initially rolled out the iPhone and this is such a new device for palm, there's bound to be "teething" problems that palm will resolve.

While we've getting things off our chests I never really liked VHS. Too cumbersome and fickle.

While I partly agree with this, I believe DVD's are a 100% downgrade. I have VHS tapes from 20 years ago that still play the way they did when they were bought. Sadly, about 90% of my DVD collection has parts that skip or just don't play. They're too fragile.

What they need to do is combine the two into a minidisc sort of hybrid. DVD/BlueRay quality in a shell.

Hahaha the iPhone also has all of those problems, and that failed didnt it.... oh wait, no it didn't.

Your logic is flawed. Every device has problems in the early days. In fact, every device has problems no matter how long it's been out, but more so in the early days.

LOL

every one of those flaws have risen with the iphone as well

seriously people, the iphone is no better in terms of mishaps:rolleyes:

true
there were probably more issues with the iPhone at its release

in the end, its not about one feature, or battery life, its about usability
and the pre seems very usable to me (love those notifications)

also, what makes this thread OFFICIAL?

Well apparently all those people who have been shoving the Palm Pre down our throats for the past 5 months forgot to tell us that.

I don't get it.
I own an iPhone. Why in the hell should I care about the Palm Pre? Really. Why? If it fails, so. If its great, so. WTF do I care about it or who owns it? Its a phone.
Palm isn't a competitor of mine, never will be. I don't work at Apple and I"m pretty sure none of us here do. So whats the point?

Sorry boys, but this isn't a "Us versus Them" scenario. You can try to make it that way, but its still not true.

Who cares about the Pre unless you're buying one?

And as for the VHS, it was slightly better than the old reel to reel movies. So while slightly cumbersome, it was a step in the right direction.
Never used Betamax...didn't like the name. It gave me the he be jeebee's.

+1

I work for AT&T and should have every reason to want the Pre to fail...and I don't. Competition is good. I actually want the Pre to succeed so when it comes to AT&T, it will be a huge hit, and once it does, I may actually consider buying one because it looks like a really nice phone. And as long as there's no serious competition to the iPhone, Apple has no reason to make it better. If it wasn't for the newest BlackBerries like the Bold, Android and yes, even the latest version of Windows Mobile which doesn't seem too bad, I doubt we'd be getting MMS and copy and paste in 3.0.

And all those problems you listed with the Pre, I bet I could find threads on MR with the exact same complaints about the iPhone. Except the "crappy copy & paste" one, since we haven't had copy and paste for the past 2 years

The only thing that's failing is this thread.

Agreed.

I don't want to hear about the Palm Pre, that's why I come to this forum. This thread is fail. It's becoming extremely annoying to see so many Pre related threads.

Mod should trash thread already.

There are quite a few people here, like me, who have a substantial investment in AAPL. And someone who "owns" part of the company has more at stake than someone who works there. An employee still gets paid until Apple has to start laying people off, an investor can lose hundreds of thousands in a day if the market even perceives that Apple's sales are going to suffer to a competitor.

Personally, I think there's plenty of room in the current smartphone market. I invested in Apple because I believe they know what they're doing, not because the competition doesn't.

The point is, I agree with the no Palm specific threads, but some of us do have an interest in how Apple performs and how investors see that performance over the long run. That said, I bought AAPL in Oct. 2000 and haven't worried since (I've actually increased my holdings).

Maybe MacRumors needs an AAPL board in the forums, maybe it already exists... I need to check.

Oy.

Oh, it's totally a hack. But calling it an "iTunes hack" is misleading since they don't modify iTunes at all. It's petty of me to make that distinction, but it is true.

And I was saying, although it's a hack, and that's unfortunate, it does not erase the innovation and work Palm has put into the Pre.

No, but it does make me wonder how much further away the Pre's release date would be if Palm had designed and coded their own sync software. Must be nice to piggyback off your old employer's R&D.

It's poor form that I'd expect from Psystar or the likes... Not from a company that was once "best in class."
