Why I think the pre will fail Thread (links)

Exactly we come here to read about the iphone and not about how the Pre is coming to kill the iphone. If that is what you are interested in, go the Pre forums, that's all they talk about. Every few months a new iphone killer arises and we get bombarded with all this crap about the phone in this forum, once the hype dies down, all the talk fades away. It's really annoying.

This is why I say they are lazy. Instead of doing what RIM did and actually implementing their own software to sync with itunes, they resorted to hacking. At least what RIM did was respectable, congrats to them. As you said I would expect this from fly by night outfit like Psystar but not a company that has been around as long as Palm.

That's the great thing about the mouse/trackpad. You get to control what you click. If you don't want to read about the Pre, then don't click on the thread. Instead, look for threads with titles like "iPhone" or "New leaked shots of iPhone" or "This thread has absolutely nothing to do with Pre."

All sarcasm aside, the Pre is the most viable iPhone competitor to date. As such, it is completely understandable and acceptable for it to be discussed here. Do I think it will succeed? No. However, there is no harm in it being discussed.

Using your logic, Windows should never be discussed here either. If you want ONLY iPhone talk, perhaps go to http://theiphoneblog.com
 
I actually find this thread useful. I don't have time to dig around pre forums to find the real feedback from actual pre users. This is the info I've been waiting to hear.

It's been nothing but raving reviews for months from people who have never used one. Now that they are in the hands of real people, we can hear the real pros and cons.

Using that logic, shouldn't a Pre-centric thread starter make use of "the great thing about the mouse/trackpad" and not click on an iPhone forum to start a new thread about a Pre?

Maybe we should have a separate sub-forum for "iPhone Competitors" -- it just seems out of place to be discussing it in the "iPhone" forum.

Last time I checked this is an iphone forum, there is a Windows forum on here to discuss Windows related issues, I don't come to the iphone forum to read about the Palm Pre, G1, Storm or any other phone that is supposed to kill the iphone and we get into these useless debates over and over again. I guess the Palm Pre is new flavour in town. They have their own forums for that.
 
I think it is a bit too early to ascertain how the Pre is doing.

Personally, I like the competition. Although we should be comparing the Pre to the iPhone 3 software and possible hardware release this week.

I find the fanboy comments on both sides of the fence (iPhone and Pre) a bit amusing. :)

Anyhow, it will be a while before we really know how well the Pre does in the market place. A few days doesn't count in my book.

Well, perhaps you (and others) aren't getting the point. If what you say is true then: Why did you comment? Finally, many of us here are also commenting on the OP starter's insecurities. Why do the OP starter need to create a topic like this on an Apple friendly site? Seems mightly insecure to me.

That's rather narrow-minded. The Pre is the first decent iPhone competitor, so it's relevant to the iPhone.

Why did I comment, I commented on this thread because the Pre threads are getting annoying, if you want to discuss about the Pre, you can go here: www.precentral.net, www.mypre.com, www.palmgoon.com

NO TURN BY TURN
NO VIDEO RECORDING
NO FLASH
CRACKS IN PLASTIC CASING (cheap build quality)
CRAPPY 3G reception both Apple and atts fault.
I wish Palm luck. Look at the iPhone it took Apple TWO ENTIRE YEARS TO ADD THIS
THE iPhone has it's own issues. I hope Palm gets off to a good start making Apple modernize.

I like this idea. A sub-forum for the iPhone competitors would be nice and keep things separated. With the popularity of the iPhone, it should be a target for years to come. Why not have a dedicated place to discuss the iPhone competition.

Most of what you wrote is coming in the new iphone, the Pre doesn't even have some of what you wrote so how are they forcing Apple to modernize? The other stuff you wrote is subjective and not the norm which is why the iphone has the industry's highest satisfaction rates, where the heck is Palm on there, langusishing close to the bottom. :rolleyes:

Again, why the insecurity? I'm happy with my iPhone and happy for the competition, but why a post specifically geared towards completely panning a phone?

I Love everyone who says "All this will be in the new iPhone". Yeah, but is the current iPhone, as in the one right now, here in my hands, doing that? No.

The Pre isn't. The BlackBerry isn't. Android isn't. And neither is Windows Mobile. Like it or not, neither of those are light years behind the iPhone, and yet, they all do MMS and copy and paste and have done so for a long time. They also do background apps and 3rd party applications on those phones do not pass under the iron fist of Apple.

So Apple gives you some features and takes away others. I like my iPhone, but I think it's ridiculous that I spent $300 on a device that doesn't have some features a cheap 6 year old 50 dollar phone has. And all this "Well, Apple's putting it in 3.0!" is a cop out. It should've had MMS and copy/paste from the start.
