I'm not going to reply to the whole thread right now because I don't have the time or the motivation. Right now I'm just livid.
Just a few minutes ago I was giving both of my computers the usual wipe down and blowing out the vents. I live in the desert so if you don't clean things every couple of days dust can build up extremely fast.
What do I see on my MacBook? Well, I first notice that the plastic around the vent on the back is starting to warp a bit. Great. I look down and what do I see? Hairline cracks running the entire length of the vent on the bottom of the case, just underneith the vent. Great, it's cracking and warping due to heat. But how in the hell does this even happen? I rarely use it! I've only ever used it to encode full length video a couple of times, maybe 3 times total. I've done that on cool nights earlier in the year. During the summer I never used it when it was warm. At the beginning of the summer I started to encode a couple of videos but when I saw the CPU quickly peak at 88c I killed the encode and use the HP instead. The only thing I've done that kicks up the processors would be watching youtube videos and using Pandora desktop. So how the hell does this thing crack and warp from heat when it doesn't even get used!?
On top of that I noticed theres a small maybe 3/4" long hairline crack in the plastic just below the palmrest, as if someone rested their heavy hand/arm on the unit while using it. First, I never rest my hands on it like that when I use it as a portable. Second, I rarely use it as a portable! My battery only has 27 cycles on it, and most of those are from just letting the system run unplugged on my desk. I'm always using an external mouse and keyboard at the desk.
This is ridiculous. System is a month out of warranty now. The casing itself is not even 8 months old. The casing already had to be replaced because of build quality issues on top of the fact that this is a replacement system for a system that had build quality issues with the case!
I'm not going to call Apple. I'm just going to email the two people who helped me with my repair issues before and see what they have to say. Ridiculous. You know, I use my HP for everything and I push it to the limit when I play games like UT3 and GRID, I take it everywhere, I move it around, and it still looks and is build as good as the day it showed up nearly a year ago.
