Even if there is 1080p for iPhone 12, that would be for my maid.

 Not impressed if that was your goal. Bragging on an anonymous Internet forum is pretty pointless unless it makes you feel better about yourself somehow (which would be sad). As a side note, if you're buying your maid iPhones you're probably not too awful to work for.

I took a good look at my brother's XR today and the screen is great and definitely the best LCD yet on an iPhone. I think the OLED of my X is slightly superior but pretty irrelevant since no one will be comparing them side by side all day.

Compared the 8 plus against an 11 instore and the 8 plus is just as bright and vivid but also has the higher resolution making it sharper than the 11. So don't agree it's the best LCD yet.

Great. I'm happy you have your own opinion.

I’m coming from an 8plus. 8plus display is definitely better. But the 11 is a great phone for the price. Every iPhone is great when you’re just using it and not comparing them side by side

It's almost as though Apple knows what it is doing when it comes to giving customers a great user experience. Almost. :)

I am using 8 plus and didn’t notice the difference in resolution with iPhone at the shop. But I understand that some people may be bothered by the spec, or some are having very sharp vision.

Yeah anyone claiming that the 8 Plus is sharp due to the 1080p screen, compared to other iPhones, doesn't have sharp vision. I already talked about how the Plus models render at a different resolution than the hardware they pack, causing downscaling and thus blurriness.

It's purely placebo effect caused by numbers on a sheet of paper.

If you say so. No blurriness on my 7 plus thanks. Let's not forget the 401ppi.

PPI is not the sole determiner of blurriness, especially when 401 is in the diminished returns territory for conventional LCDs on phones.
And, as I have said MULTIPLE times, the Plus models’ 1080p screen is a lower resolution than what they render at, requiring iOS to downscale everything at a weird ratio. That will cause slight blurriness. 1080p won’t fix that.

Its like I'm saying the sky looks blue but you want to tell me it's purple. The Plus sized iPhones do look sharper to me and many others when comparing against the 11. Most importantly when comparing text. I'll accept, though I've never seen it, that in certain applications or situations that the downscaling iOS is performing may cause some blurriness.

As I understand it the plus size phones native resolution is 1242px by 2208px and rendered into 1920px by 1080px.

We won't agree so I'm leaving it there. It's the same for people who are more than happy with the XR or 11, no one will change their minds.

This was always a great site to see the screen resolution comparison: https://www.paintcodeapp.com/news/iphone-6-screens-demystified

The Plus screens have point resolutions of 414x736 but rendered at 3x fr 1242x2208 and then downsampled by 1.15 to fit the 1920x1080 physical screen.

I'm firmly in the camp that feels 326ppi is a good option and likely best suited for where the 11/XR are in the lineup, though I do recall being able to see the difference between 326ppi and 401ppi when placed side by side, specifically when comparing text. It's one of the reasons why I would go with the Pro model over the 11 if choosing, though it does suck for those who suffer from the PWM in the OLED display.

Great post ...
How do i find the same "Rendered Pixels" test for IPhone 11 ?

Native 1080p support would avoid the need to convert all media to a non-standard resolution, saving battery life as well as looking better

But then it would have to be EXACTY 1920x1080, or there is still converting.

I’m not convinced that’s true at all. And the battery savings by using a “standard” format would in no way offset the additional battery use of lighting up significantly more pixels.
"Lighting up significantly more pixels?" Lol. It's an LCD screen. The pixels don't "light up." They are backlit, meaning that the amount of power required to light the screen would be the same, even if the resolution were increased to something slightly more modern like 1080p (assuming the size of the screen remained the same) ...

Power consumption would however go up as the cpu and gpu would have to work harder for the increased resolution.

You’re reading too hard into post made four months ago, but yes, I get what you’re saying. Either way, more pixels means more power consumption.

And why not? It’s a great screen (I am writing this on one) and requires less battery power than a higher resolution. If you want it better, there’s a Pro/Max now and things should get even better in 2020.

And... you look on 6,1” from higher distance so resolution is “opticaly” sharper (or less blurry).

Oh my, is your screen somehow not high enough resolution for you?

the human eye can only resolve so much, if you can’t see individual pixels then increasing resolution is not likely to make the screen any better.

Battery life. You get much better battery life with less resolution that you probably wouldn't see the difference of unless you stuck ur head an inch from the screen...and I hope that's not the case lol. I saw a comparison with 2 resolutions of the same Samsung phone and the battery drain difference was huge. Personally I prefer battery life over a slight bump in resolution i'll probably never notice anyways. If anything I guess i'd like an 828p OLED so I can just get the perks of better battery life while still having a nice screen on it.

Also as a gamer, besides the size of things I can barely tell the difference between 900p and 1080p on my 24 inch screen when playing stuff, so slightly worse than 900p on something that's the size of my palm...I don't know I just don't see the big deal. (plus it's still a super sexy screen quality besides that)

You realise the ratio checks out, right? The 8 at 4.7” is the same 326ppi as the 11 on the 6.1”, making the 8 at 4.7” a lower resolution screen but not in PPI.

Cool? It’s still a bigger phone at 6.1 inches with a sub 1080p screen. Give me a 1080p screen at 6.1 inches
