iPhone 5s

Apple is desperately trying to move out of the mobile phone business and get rid of its customers. Signs to prove this are the upcoming announcement of a replica of last years phone with all the same dimensions. They want to move into making iWatches and in assisting with color selections for your home, like "gold or champagne". A larger screen smartphone is not on their radar which by the way was built in the 1940's.:(

Android is so poorly optimized (given that it has to run on just about everything) it takes roughly twice the resources to get the same results in terms of performance. The smartphone spec wars are completely meaningless because 2GB of RAM or a Quad core, run through geek bench, means next to nothing. Then you factor in the optimizations each company is sneaking in to inflate their scores and you can see that nothing about specs on a phone means anything about the user experience.

User experience is key to having a captive market, not being one of the 15 other manufacturers that touts how big their screen is ;)

Ok? Thanks for you input?

Nothing to do with what we were talking about.

switch

Yes, by all means switch to a different brand. Oh wait. The other brands all start with five inch screens for the 21st Century. I guess your out of luck.

I would rather have a smaller phone. My 4s is too big. I'll be upgrading to a different brand if Apple doesn't release an actual hand sized pocket fitting phone within the next year.

It's a forum, I'm more than able to use your post as a springboard for my own discussion points. Kind of how these things work.

Also, it draws directly off of the first statement that I quoted. Yes they are putting more resources in terms of specs, but that's only because the experience is poor without it.

Its off topic and will get the thread moved to alternatives or closed. Its not how things work. Read the forum rules. I'm guilty of doing the same thing.

Aside from that I completely agree with you.

So let's summarise this topic...
Some people here are against the bigger screen iPhone, some are for it.
Some say that Apple will be doomed if they will not release bigger screen iPhone this year and some are just trolling.
So what gives?
Total chaos, dogs and cats living together, iPhone users switching to Evil Android or even worse Windows mobile.
All of it because Apple refuses to release 5" screen iPhone ;)

True, but walk into an Apple store and take a look at the stale, underwhelming products on their tables, and you might start to think otherwise. Everything in there is a big YAWN.

True but you look at all the smart phones out there including the S4 and they are all big yawns. Most people have smart phones and they are not special anymore.

But at least they all have bigger screen to yawn about... ;)
In Australia Samsung stores are packed with people, trying and buying.
Apple stores are still going OK, but for how much longer?!
iPhone 5C will not be a hit here and shampagne color iPhone 5S with the same puny size screen will NOT sell at all. Yes, AU is comparitavly small market, but this the trend that you'll see all around the world including US as well...

I don't like wider bigger screens. I moved from one to Apple and will remain with them because of this. However, you are free to move to the other wider phones. By the way, why don't you ????

I'm sure he did. It always seems to be the people who own Android phones that complain about iPhones. I'm not sure why unless it's the "my phone is better than your phone" mentality. Some people seem to treat the phones like sports teams when they are just phones.

Because I'm locked into Apple Eco system.
Using Apple computers since Apple 2C days, running recording studio that relies on 2 Mac Pros and several MacBook Pros and recently addition of 4 iPad 4 mostly used as controllers to DAWS such as Pro Tools, Ableton Live and Cubase.

Why can't you use Android? The phone runs independently from recording apps. They also have an iTunes sync for Android phones. Maybe I'm missing something here?

So cheap > large. More people will buy a cheap phone over a large one. Why do we need a larger screen for a phone? Apple sells what it sells and as consumers we choose what to purchase and what not to purchase. Apple's marketing tells us that the iPhone is perfect for human use so that's why we choose to consume the product. It's pretty simple. For those of us that have purchased a lot of iOS and Mac Apps, we may feel that we are more "locked in" to the Apple ecosystem but repurchasing apps for Android or whatever other ecosystem would give almost the same effect. As Apple users, we are essentially the lowest common denominator in tech. They build products for us to use, not to ponder, or tinker, or fuss, or organize. I use Apple products because they save me time to spend with family or on other projects I would rather do than organize apps or home screens, or virus scans, etc...

Android platform has notorious latency audio and MIDI issues and therefore is totally useless in my working environment.

That audio latency is why Traktor DJ has only an iOS app. On their forums, people are begging them to do an Android app but the latency issues won't allow it yet.

Supposedly Google has adressed them somewhat since 4.22 and up but they still exist.

Hard to believe some of the idiotic and sarcastic comments on this forum.

Personally, I think a large or larger iPhone is foolish. Remember the first mobile phone from Cellular One (I think) and what a big brick it was?

I want a phone that fits in my shirt pocket or hip case and if I need to use a screen to surf for information I will fire up my iPad mini. The iPhone IS A PHONE FOR CRYING' OUT LOUD!

If your i-sight is that bad (pun intended) then buy a cheapie Samsung viewing-screen-phone or get new glasses. The choice is yours.

My Boss sold his iPhone 5 after just a few months because he needed a larger screen because, well, he's a big guy with big fingers. He's used a Note ever since.

Ah, good point. I thought they fixed low latency audio when Jelly Bean got released. After doing a Google search just now I read that they didn't. MIDI support however was one of those things on Android that was never really possible. You have to use those on a phone?..... just answered my own question, yes you do because otherwise you lose time while working or getting to places. AU people are probably not going to purchase the 5C but the main markets will be emerging tech markets where price will be a factor such as China and India.

And yet when you walk in, all you see is a sea of people using all that boredom. Amazing huh?

Ahhh, defense until death. Yes, look in to the "sea of people". I do, and I notice that, like the polar ice caps, the sea is dwindling. The majority of the people are looking (not buying) at the cool stuff they can't afford since looking (and using) in the store is still free.

Except, the numbers don't match your personal anecdote.

Yep

I really do hope most people on MR are as fed up as me of seeing the same old thread recycled again and again and again. Big screen, cheap iPhone is being discussed and tens of threads right now. Does it ever get boring for some people?

It's really, really, really, really annoying, but it's so prevalent there's so little else to click on.

You must be looking at the wrong numbers then because as of June 2013, Apple has sold fewer Macs and iPads than same time last year.

This, according to Apple here.

The "sea of people" must just be buying those innovative iPhone 5's because that's the only thing they sold more of this quarter.

Given the product cycle pipeline this is exactly what should be expected. Get ready for Apple's best holiday season ever, mark my words.

Apple's not keeping up with its competitors. Plain and simple. The only reason why its still selling so well is because of its iOS and ecosystem. Take away that and you have a subpar hardware.

Be objective, look at how its competitors have improved since the launch of the original iPhone.

Metal casing? check
Screen resolution? check
Better battery life? check

I love Apple because I love the simplicity of their Operating Systems (both iOS and Mac OS), however I really wish they would start coming out with better hardware. 4 inch isn't even standard on the market for smart phones anymore and this is the company that brought us the best smartphone and tablet.

Will I switch to Android based phones? No. But you are kidding yourself if you think Apple hasn't been slacking since iP4

I don't understand the argument of preferring a smaller screen. Stay with the iP5, simple. Apple needs to provide more options for its consumers. It doesn't hurt US OR THEM if/when they do.

How can you say that their hardware is subpar and then focus only on a friggin screen? Do you have any idea what is in the pipeline with apple's own silicon? They are moving rapidly towards designing chips entirely in house, you'll probably be eating your own words in just a few years time. The entire rest of the industry is just relying on what samsung and others are selling (again, talking SoC's here). All that means is that one competitor can say that they have chip X this month, then next month theres a new flagship with the same chip everyone has been expecting for months.

Apple is investing away from the off the shelf component market and designing entirely in house. That. Is. Huge.
