So you're saying that the iPad is incompatible with certain routers? Because 5 other Apple items work fine on the same router! How can this be?

Btw this iPad has never been jb and the only apps have been purchased through apples store. So if there are any incompatibilities then they should have been caught by apples magical approval process.

Not completely incompatible (obviously). Some iPhones have the same (or similar) problem, and for me it was fixed by changing settings on my router. So, yes.

Don't know who told you about Apple's "magical" approval process, but in case you haven't heard, some of their products have flawed designs , so it must not be so "magical".

I've given up an YT on my iPad. Its slow/unusable for me at home in Ontario and its slow for me when I travel on business to Kentucky and Indiana, even when all other wireless devices (iPhone, MacBook Pro, Toshiba laptop) have no problems.

Mobile site is slow as he'll and desktop site is running perfect. Definitely a YouTube problem

I know that this may be a bit obvious, but did you check the exact same video on both machines? I have severe difficulty viewing any videos from Europe (I'm on the other side of the planet in New Zealand) with YouTube on ANY machine. I also sometimes have difficulties watching stuff from North America, but depends on the time of day.

What really cracks me up is whenever there's an issue with a Apple product a dozen or so fanboys will proclaim they don't have this issue so it must be user error. Happens every time, in this case the ipad truly sucks when it comes to youtube. This has always been the case, but the fanboys will have you beleive it's your router even though the ipad is the only device having issues.

The point of a post saying that someone else is not having a problem is that then we know that the problem the original poster is having is not generic to all iPads but has something to do with the connection that the poster has to youTube. This has nothing to do with "fanboys".

Please use a little logic. This sort of analysis is central to any problem solving procedure. By the way, the problem could well be due to the poster's router. Not all devices use the same features of the 802.11 protocols. These protocols are quite complex especially for low-power consumption devices.

I've had the same issue with youtube videos pausing frequently to buffer, even when other devices on the same wifi network are fine. I have fixed the problem by modifying 2 advanced settings on the wireless router that seem to give the ipad a few hiccups. Login to your wireless router and set your "Fragmentation Threshold" to a lower number - I am using 2305. also set "CTS/RTS threshold" to a lower number as well - I am using 2304. Your router / access point may be different but you should be able to find such settings after digging around a bit. My router is an Actiontec model used with verizon fios. Also, if you are still using WEP security you should switch over to WPA2. I have been able to go from almost always having buffering delay to almost never with these settings.

upgrading to the latest firmware solved all of my youtube issues. before, i couldn't even view any videos without it freezing at 10 seconds. Now everything loads fast and no stuttering, no freeezing.

Same problem, no general connectivity issues

I have YouTube and streaming video issues on a week-old iPad with updated firmware. I've tested it with three wireless routers and multiple other devices, PCs, phones, Roku, etc. No other device has streaming video issues, but I have encountered similar issues on other streaming video sites on my iPad. Ensuring a strong signal (being right next to the router) helps sometimes but not always.

Is it possible to have a firmware corruption that restoring would help solve? No issues and never have had on iPhone 3G or other devices.

Same here. Got the iPad 3G 32gb version last Friday. YouTube has been unwatchable on this device. I've tried openDNS and Google's own public DNS. No good on both m.YouTube.com and YouTube.app. Btw, the iPad came with 3.2.1 installed. The situation is quite frustrating as YouTube is one major part of reasons I bought the iPad for. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update.

I'll try a restore when I get the chance. Finger crossed.

Same here. Sluggish Youtube that loads OK on other computers. I thought 3.21 fixed the issue, but I was wrong.

BTW, I never had the "WiFi issue". This is my only problem so far!

My DSL is a crappy 1.5MB connection, But I have put in for a 6MB upgrade this week. Still, the PC seemed to do Youtube OK at the 1.5MB? Could The Ipad always go for the higher rez version? Do others with this issue have a slow connection (1.5MB)?

There has to be a understandable answer?

Remember all those Wifi issues being blamed on routers that got fixed with 3.21 Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have the same problem. You Tube sucks so bad on my iPad that I given up using it. It works fine on my iPhone and Macs. I also use Airport extremes. I don't believe it's my network connection. I have had this problem for weeks.

Talking about both running on the iPad. If you run the mobile site its slow as hell and if you go to the bottom of the mobile version and click on desktop version it will load p e desktop version of you tube which is MUCH faster on the same iPad. Only problem with the desktop version is not all videos are html5 some work but some need flash

As I said several times earlier, this is the truth of the matter! I believe there is a problem that's outside of the routers. My router is a VERY common router supplied by BT that IS compatible with all other Apple equipment and other manufacturers that I have in the household. Was there any mention of possible WiFi incompatibilities in the ipad specifications? No! This is an Apple problem. If you're watching get it sorted out. Enough time has passed with no word at all from Apple. They are going down hill fast. Years ago, companies used to have a saying, "The customer is always right!" Now Apple seems to automatically say, "The customer is wrong!" This is the wrong approach and we (the customers who have problems) should stick it to them hard for taking this approach. So whether the ipad is incompatible with the routers or not, this is a problem for Apple to deal with, as part of good customer service!

Is this my ongoing rant? Yes, it sure is my £500 rant!

Dns Chang worked!

Thanks for the suggestion! 208.67.222.222 didn't help much but 208.67.220.220 completely fixed my problem.

Thanks again!

I agree it's horrible the piling on. I tried my dad's iPad the other day and there was no problem but that's just one data point. If anyone is having an issue, that's a BIG problem for them. MR fanbois shouldn't make light of it.

Restore does not help. You need to using the latest firmware. Once i upgraded to the latest firmware my YouTube issues stopped.

Can all of the people complaining about Yt in this thread confirm if they are still using the previous firmware?

YouTube does give me problems sometimes. It not the iPad because netflix never does or the the abc app

Many of us have stated that we're using 3.2.1 and it does not fix the problem. I thought my problems were fixed, temporarily, after 3.2.1 installed, but they came right back. My Ipad is acting exactly the same way it did before the update.

And, to answer other questions, yes, it IS the Ipad. I can pull up the same video on my Macbook Pro, my Iphone 4, and my Ipad at the same time, and only the Ipad will struggle/refuse to play it.

No issues here. Only "issue" is the low quality of the 3g streams compared to wifi streams... But then again here in Vancouver we're getting a 20mbps connection which might make a difference for initial burst streaming.

Tried that one on my iPad with no problems.

The performance of YouTube will be dependent on the speed of your Internet connection, conflicting traffic on the Internet, and the load on the servers.

Yes I agree, 1 hour after I posted link tried again and was fine. I think its You tubes servers getting bogged down in my case :(
