Add me to the list of people that have a problem.

Tried loading the same youtube video using youtube app on both the iPhone 3GS and iPad (that were connected to the same wifi) and while the iPhone loaded super quick, the iPad was interminably, irritatingly slow. In fact, I just gave up.

However, after reading this thread and doing a little "googling", I tried changing the DNS and that seemed to do the trick. While I'm glad that it's now working, I'm a little disappointed that I had to go to the trouble in the first place. Not what I expected from an Apple device that supposedly "just works".

Looking at the Apple support forums, nothing ever "just works" all the time. It's just that Apple computers work "better" then non-Apple. We need to get off this idea that Apple makes perfect, magical products that never have issues.

Go to WI-FI and click on your network. Change your DNS to "208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220" This helped make it load faster. It still does stop sometimes but when it's not stopped it will load faster then the video.
My speed is 5.44 Mbps download and 0.90 Mbps upload.

Changing to 208.67.222.222 made a SIGNIFICANT difference on my iPad. I was so frustrated about this. Let's hope now it's a lasting fix!

OK, came on here tonight as I have finally gone mad with this, to the point, something MUST be wrong.

OK to start with, in the same room is, macbook, wii, ps3, xbox, ALL use my full speed wireless with no problems whatsoever.

Now come to the bloody annoying Ipad, I noticed 3 or 4 days ago, that my youtube videos, were starting to play fine, and then just stopping, not like a normal streaming would do occasionally , say if the network was a bit sluggish, I mean actually stop, and refuse to carry on streaming.

Now I, pretty sure were all intelligent enough here to realise that youtube can be hit and miss at times, as can all streaming, and I guess we all get used to all the little nuances that come with streaming.

But it is 100% crystal clear to me, it has a problem somewhere.

Ill tell you when I get extremly annoyed, when the £430 device I have bought, makes me change rooms to go to my crappy pc to watch the youtube video I want to watch, and that is becoming more regular, that can not be right.

And again you only have to spend seconds doing a search to see its all over, there has to be a problem, that I think needs addressing, and no, not for one second do I think its a network problem, this many people all cant have crappy networks.
I have one of the top connections in the UK speed wise, and like I say no other wireless device has any problems whatsoever..

Also it is about time I think Apple started to address these teething problems with the Ipad, me for one, is gettng just a tad annoyed now, making excuses when someone is using the ipad to try and watch a video, and they say..."its not loading"

I for one would like to see apple get on with these so called promised fixes they said a while ago now.

Talking about both running on the iPad. If you run the mobile site its slow as hell and if you go to the bottom of the mobile version and click on desktop version it will load p e desktop version of you tube which is MUCH faster on the same iPad. Only problem with the desktop version is not all videos are html5 some work but some need flash

Hmm, could it because the video is being converted on the fly to an iPad friendly format?

is it slow on the ipad browser? try youtube on there perhaps its a flaw in the app?

It's gotten to the point where I have given up on viewing YouTube videos on my iPad. I got mine on launch day and have not been able to watch a single YouTube video without it pausing or stopping altogether. It has to be something with either the iPad or YouTube since Netflix, Hulu Plus and ABC Player play flawlessly.

My 3 and a half year old Macbook Pro which is actually further from the router than my iPad can play YouTube videos just fine. I can sit right next to my router (a Dual-Band Airport Extreme) and still get the same pausing and stopping whenever I try to view a YouTube video.

I've tried that brightness trick, changing the DNS, installing the latest update, viewing videos from YouTube mobile site and nothing works.

I know I'm not the only one because I've seen plenty of threads on various forums where people are having the same issue. For some the update fixed it, but for others like me it obviously didn't.

I really hope Apple fixes this since I've enjoyed my iPad otherwise but not being able to play YouTube is a big deal.

Same here. Before I couldn't watch a single YouTube video from start to finish before. Changed my dns and I've watched 10 videos with no problems.

Guys let me just say i to have tried the dns change , just, and its worked, there is one video on youtube, for some reason one called "rock band 3- exclusive pro guitar" , just kept stopping early on, every time, but changed the dns, and boom....played first time.

At least try it guys, ill be leaving it for now.

Many of us have stated that we're using 3.2.1 and it does not fix the problem. I thought my problems were fixed, temporarily, after 3.2.1 installed, but they came right back. My Ipad is acting exactly the same way it did before the update.

And, to answer other questions, yes, it IS the Ipad. I can pull up the same video on my Macbook Pro, my Iphone 4, and my Ipad at the same time, and only the Ipad will struggle/refuse to play it.
My situation exactly. I guess 3.2.x was just sufficient for the release, and I hope it'll be fixed for 4.x. Sucks that we have to wait for that though.

youtube needs to update their servers period. I dont think it has anything to do with the ipad. youtube is slow on ipad, iphone, mac, windows everything I use it on. and I have a 30/30 internet connection.

On some rare occasions I experience a slow down when using the Youtube App on my iPad. It doesn't happen very often though, so I don't know if it is an iPad problem, or if the Youtube servers cause the slow downs.

Perhaps you need to change your attitude. It's not your PC that is crappy, it's iPad. I know, Steve claims otherwise but he is just a salesman what else could you expect :D

I had similar issues on my iPhone 3GS on 3.x, iOS 4 has seem to have fixed them though, maybe this will be true of the iPad too.

I hope so mythic, i got an ipad at release but ended up returning it because i couldn't play youtube videos. My videos would always load a short portion of it and then all of a sudden stop. Pretty much got fed up with it and had to grab my MBP to finish the rest of my video.

Apple has been known to take a long time for fixes...can't believe its still such a problem for so many users though. Well i guess back to waiting, if iOS4 fixes it ill be the first in line to grab myself an ipad, again.

YouTube does give me problems sometimes. It not the iPad because netflix never does or the the abc app

I read 3 pages of his thread waiting for someone to point this out.

YouTube works intermittently as the same problems others reported here occurs on my iPad as well. However, netflix and abc app hardly ever if ever pauses and buffers.

Why is that?

I had that problem with my 3GS over WiFi for a long time, iOS 4 fixed it. I noticed early on that the iPad would have trouble but would load a bit faster than my 3GS, since 3.2.1 I've been able to load HD (720p I assume) trailers from trailers.apple.com. Usually it pauses once and then finishes loading quickly.

???????

I guess I'm in the dark here.... I have 2 iPads, the 64GB 3G version and a 32GB wi-fi model and both load/play YouTube videos quite fast. Also, I just looked at a colleagues iPad and the same goes.....YouTube works just fine.

? ? ?

I've just noticed that it's embedded yt videos that stutter or stall and not movies viewed directly in the app. Also, it's not all embedded videos just those from certain sites, but unfortunately most. Anyone else notice this?

I find that videos will buffer in an unusual way. It will quickly load a portion, and then creep along at a very slow pace and then back up to fast and then slow again. Sometimes it is worse the other times.

There is also the glitch that you can come across when it plays up until the ended of the buffered segment and pauses. The video continues to buffer however you cannot resume playing it. No matter how many times you hit the play button it just won't work until the video is finished buffeting up until the end of the clip. If you get this error when the buffering is ultra slow, it can take 10 minutes to watch a 1 minute clip.

It is not just YouTube. There are many sites who (in browser or app) which are unusable. I believe it has something to do with the implementation of html5 video. I have Found many sites who set it up just for ipad are the worst.

I hate to be the one to point this out, however youporn is unusable. I have not yet been able to finish one clip, not matter how long it is.
