I have had issues with this since I got my iPad. I have a 20mbps down like 6-8mbps up. YouTube is perfectly streamable on my PC, even with 1080P clips. I can barely stream SD on my iPad. Netflix has no problems, or ABC. Both of those are higher quality than YouTube.

Strange. I have no problems at all with YouPube on PC or iphone/iPad at home in the UK on my Virgin Broadband connection. I'm in Ireland (Republic) at the moment and while all the PC's, Iphones and Touches here on this network are fine, the iPad refuses to play more than a few seconds. It's simply not streaming enough to buffer. Very frustrating.

Me too

I'm having the same problem with slow video play on the iPad. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's a YouTube video or on some other site (not that it's very easy to find non-flash videos on sites other than YouTube - but that's a complaint for another thread). All movies stall and quit within a few seconds. My MBP has no problems with the same videos on the same network. I'm using an Airport Extreme, so presumably it's not a problem with compatibility. I can be sitting right beside it, and the iPad still can't load a video.

It seems to me that the whole point in the iPad is to sit on your couch and serf. It's gotten to the point that I'd rather go through the hassle of wrestling with the MBP and a scorched crotch than deal with lack of function of the iPad. It's basically become a toy for my 3yo now.

I would advise people to do a speedtest using the speedtest app. It's not just YouTube but is more apparent on that for sure.

I get 8mbps constantly on my iMac and yet my iPad only manages 2-3mbps. Something is def not right.

I can never finish have the videos I want to watch on YouTube on my iPad. It's frustrating because I'll whip out my droid and it will load the video 3x as fast. I have the latest software to and of course being the nerd I am downloaded speedtest as my first app and my home connection is anywhere from 12-20MBS thanks to my 108mbs wireless g router coupled with the ipads wireless n. Any suggestions? I've even done some signal strength surveying...

Still have the issue.

Looks to be that iPad (and my iPod touch) can have issues with wireless speed with certain routers. Again, my iMac corectly reads my net connection as 8Mbps via wireless on my O2 wireless II box. iPad and iPod touch both read nothing more than 2.5Mbps (via speedtest app). Went to a couple of other places (including Apple store) and registered 20Mbps via speedtest.

So I'm guessing there are issues with my router wireless and iPad (and iPod Touch). Again, iMac is fine.

Weird.

My iPad and iPhone 4 both load videos instantly over the Youtube app. Perhaps it's my network setup... Verizon FiOS and an Airport Extreme.

I'm on 3.2.2. YouTube is unusably slow and has been since day 1. I have tried it on two different ISPs and three routers. I am currently getting 39KB/s according to the speedtest app. iMac and PC on the same network are fine. The Netflix app streams reasonably. I've tried everything I've seen on the forums such as m.YouTube.com, logging in to my account and setting playback to slow connection, and different dns servers. It would be amazing to be able to watch YouTube on the iPad. I hope we get there one day, preferably with a software update and with my current network setup.

I'm back in the UK Now (see previous post) and on my own router which is set up to a tee. Problems vanished.

Just to chime in; YouTube on my iPad is unusable. All other video sites work fine including Netflix, any channel app, vimeo, porn sites. YouTube streams fine on my iMac and iPhone and all other computers in my home network.

YouTube on my iPad is the only video site/app that doesn't work.

You tube, who cares:eek:,I mean once every 6 months, somebody sends me a video of a singing horse, or a Christian duck reading the bible, or some other useless crap I just delete it anyway. I have NEVER viewed anything on U Boob,
So I'll probably never know if, or how it loads:D

Good for you, no one cares.

I am also having terribly slow youtube loading on my iPad, on the same network every other device does fine on 720p/1080p. It has been like this since I got my iPad (I preordered 3g version).

Like many iPad users YouTube often doesn't work for me. This one plays for five or so seconds and then just stops. Will this play for anyone else. BTW, it's a video of a new iPad case.

The video works fine for me. It takes a while to build up an appreciable buffer but the video played all the way through with no breaks.

Occasionally I've had the Youtube app run out of buffer and not start playing again properly. If I remember right pausing the video, waiting for a bit and then pressing play again got things going.

Thanks for checking that for me. I couldn't get past the first five seconds or so no matter how long I waited.

I'm beginning to think this is an issue with my ISP (Verizon Fios) and not with the iPad. I went to a Verizon Fios forum and lots of people with Pc's and Macs are also complaining about YouTube problems

Mine stops after a few seconds and won't continue.

However, I can watch live UK Televission on 3G while connected to a UK VPN. Go figure. Something IS wrong with the iPads YouTube implementation.

Based on comments above, and what I've seen on other threads (indicating some run perfectly and some never), I can only hypothesize that the iPads implementation of YouTube is less tolerant of certain wireless networks. Nonetheless, it IS a fault of the implementation, not the network, because those of us with oroblems can run YouTube well with other machines, and, as I stated above, smooth live television on a 3g network that is VPNed through London.

As much as I like Apple's YouTube app, I've now switched to YouTube's mobile web app. It lets you switch to a lower quality stream that loads faster (and is easier on my monthly data limits).

If you guys are on 3G yeah it'll be slow.

However, on my WiFi only model, and OS 3.1. It's very fast.

I wonder if its just a problem with 3.2

I seem to have some issues playing that video. It doesn't buffer too well. However, some of his other videos (found under "related") plays fine so I'm assuming that there is a problem with that particular video (maybe not encoded well or too many views, etc).

I've had my Ipad for about a week now and YouTube is practically unwatchable. Both my iMac and MBP play YouTube videos without any problems. I've tried all the tips and tricks mentioned here and elsewhere, but it still crawls on my Ipad. Hope it gets fixed in software soon because it's been a bit of a disappointment for me.
