I don't really use BT beyond only one thing: answering calls that come on my phone from my laptop. In the environment I use that, it works. It was worth upgrading from a 4S to a 5S back then ;)

That's great that it works for you. After fighting with mine, replacing my Bluetooth module (which turned out not to be the problem) and then realizing that everything worked perfectly in Windows, I just decided it wasn't worth the fight on OS X.

Glad it works for you though.

Quite simply, there is little difference between what I need my iPhone 5 to do and what the latest iPhone would offer that I actually need.

I don't need or desire Apple Pay. And I don't need or want a larger phone.

Sure the newer phones may be faster. But I really can't remember ever waiting for my iPhone 5 to finish a task.

Sure the new phones may be 64-BIT. But that hasn't translated into being something that has made my 32-BIT phone incapable of anything I need.

I really would be completely unable to find any reason to buy a new iPhone other than being able to say I have the newest iPhone. Which in my life would amount to being a worthless point.

In reality, we've reached a point where the needs have been met for many years. And there hasn't been a new feature introduced that grabs my attention and makes me dream of having that feature.

I really couldn't even imagine what feature could compel me to upgrade from my iPhone 5. It does everything I need. And is capable of more than I want to do with my phone.

It's just really hard to imagine any point coming that I'm going to wish I had the latest iPhone.

About the only thing that might create that need, would be if Apple required all developers to abandon support for 32-BIT iPhones so that our favorite apps would cease to function.

But, if Apple did that, I'd likely switch to Android just because I'd view that as dirty tactics and would make me view Apple quite negatively.

Kind of like back in the 80's when Apple pulled the plug rather abruptly on the Apple II series. They expected that'd force us to migrate to the Mac. But, those of us who had invested thousands of dollars into the Apple II series (like the latest IIgs) felt quite betrayed. So... we said f#%€ you too, and switched to IBM PC's. Which actually worked to our benefit in the end. And Apple to this day has never recovered the market share that they lost in the computer industry.

So.. if they pull a similar tactic with iOS, they better be ready for the backlash that'll come from those of us who will likely be forever lost. Those of us who may have eventually upgraded to newer iPhones would likely bail completely and switch to Android like we did back in the 80's to PC's.

Ok... clarification, Apple II series discontinued in 1992 and 1993. But my point is still the same.

Anyway, hopefully Apple won't try to force us to upgrade. As stated that'd be bad. But hopefully they will have some amazing idea that'll make people like me desire a new phone.
The IIgs was a beautiful system.

Had I not been using a Commodore 64 at the time they came out and had the money to get one I would have been an Apple convert at that time.

I've never experienced any problems with my non S version iPhones. Why do so many people think it's a waste of time buying until the S version comes out? Certainly nothing wrong with my 7.

Wasn't it the 4s that had antenna problems anyway? Seems stupid to wait because you assume a phone will have problems. If you like the look of something and can afford it, buy it.

I've been on the number edition for some years with iPhone 4, 5 and 6. The only phone that disappointed me was the 6, but my wife needed a new phone in 2015 so I gave her mine and bought the 6s. Of course the S models are better, they come after an year and have better CPU/GPU and usually a better camera.
But the number models bring a new design. I wanted the bigger screen and that's the reason why I bought iPhone 6 in the first place. The perfect phone for me should have less bezels, so I'm looking forward to getting iPhone 8 if it doesn't cost too much.

The design of the 7 is the same as the 6 and the 6S. The statement that one is ugly and other not is laughable.
No.....
The statement that the 6S and 7 have the same design is laughable.

The form is the same, there's no debate about that and I never said that. But the design isn't, and if you don't think the 6S doesn't look ugly in comparison to the 7 then that's your opinion, and that's fine.

Looks good i think still

Everybody seems to be so concern for a new redesign, but as we seen b4 redesign iPhones come with problems until the S version comes out. In 2018 we will most likely get a iPhone 8 plus. This year will be most likely a waste of money unless you get the iPhone 7s due to it being the most refine model of its series. I'll be getting an iPhone 7s plus, or I'll be waiting another year and get the inevitable iPhone 8 plus that will be more thought out and bigger than the 2017 one.

The problem is many upgrade each and every year. You are seldom going to see a huge jump from one year to the next.

Best things I'd say personally about the 7 Plus vs the 6S Plus I had are features I seldom use

Of course the S models are better, they come after an year and have better CPU/GPU and usually a better camera.

Of course the S model will be better than the previous years' phone because of the improved specs. But it's not down to it being an S model, it's down to it being a year newer. Same as the 7 brought improvements over the 6S.

This year will be most likely a waste of money
I'm not following your logic, why would the iPhone 8 be a waste of money.

Now grant you, I think if the rumored 1,000 price tag is true, its too expensive (for me), but I don't think that's what your getting at.

I think the OP is a little mixed up reading back thru his posts in this thread.

Look...people will buy the new phone in droves and I'm sure others will not because of price or because they will hold out till the 2018 phone.

There is no right or wrong choice. It's all depends on what each person wants.

Do I need the change?

No.

Do I want the change after 2.5 to 3.5 years or more with the same phone?

Yes.

I wasn't prepared to buy a phone that looked similar to the one I bought already a year after buying the 6s. Had circumstance not intervened I'd still be on my 5. You may think the 7 looks nice and that's fine. I think it's simpky an iteration on the same design.

I didn't buy it. And if the 8 or 7s or whatever Apple calls it is the same design I won't buy it either.

It is somewhat cursed to desire a new design iPhone on macrumors. Majority of people on here will not understand because function is absolutely everything to them. I always upgraded on physical design change (4,5,6) and never bought a 'S' cycle and probably never will. I was disappointed at the 7 because it looked like a 6 so I skipped it. I have been using my 6 for about 3 years now. Some person commented on one of my post asking "If design refresh is that important to you, then do you buy a new microwave every year? Do you buy a new car every year?"

I'm all for better battery and feature packed devices, but I want my phone to look good (subjective) and thin as possible. I'm one of those rare group of people that supports phones getting thinner as long as the battery life remains same or marginally better, I could not care less, make them thinner. I'm all for all glass design with little buttons as possible. I am ok with headphone jack being removed because my phone looks and feels better in my opinion. I am in a similar situation where I will skip again this year if iPhone 8 (or whatever its called) looked similar to the current 6 series (this includes the 7 too).

What I felt using iPhones post the 5 series, the functions and operating the OS in the phone were more or less consistent with later models. I never felt it needed more power, more ram, more graphics, more battery etc etc at the time of using them. It was good enough for what I did and how I used it.

Yea, so I am a form kinda guy as long as the performance of the phone remains the same/marginally better.

Give me a new design over new processors/ram/thicker phone any day.

S models haven't had their problems?

The 5S was a nightmare due to its 64 bit processor when it first launch. Took months before its speed was comparable to the 5 and even longer before it became clearly faster.

The S models have fixed a lot of things (bendgate, antenna gate, probably some other gates) but anytime they introduce new tech regardless of S model or not their is a chance it will have issues and the next model again regardless of S model will improve on those new features (like TouchID 5S to 6 and haptic feedback 6S to 7).

If you have the money and a new smartphone makes you happy go for it. I'm personally sticking with the 6S because I still use a headphone jack in my company vehicle and haven't felt like investing time and effort to figure out a workaround.

To hell with fancy new features and screens and whatever, call me when I can actually get all day battery life with an iPhone.

Yep!

The 5s fixed Scuffgate. An easy enough solution for Apple. Just ignore the anodization problem on the 5, take away black as a color option, anodize the new phone for a significantly less period of time and label the new color Space Gray. The result fixes the problem because Space Gray hides scuffing better than black.

Done! :D

Not mix up at all, I say its a waste of money due to it being a NEW GENERATION phone, and will come with problems and will be too expensive, you might as well wait and get the 2018 version which will be more refine and not rushed like this years phone. That's my whole point.

That's not the only opinion or even the prevailing one.

Just saying...

LOL!!!

Sure.

From the FRONT!!!!

Not so good from the back!

What's so bad about the back? Nearly every phone has a camera bump these days, if that's what you mean, and I actually think these ones are pretty sleek. And the black colours are beautiful! My only problem with the current design is too much bezel, making the phones rather large for the screen seizes that they offer. That and the lack of a headphone jack, but that ship has sailed.

I have objected to the fugly camera bump since the iPhone 6/6+. In Apple's quest for thinness they refuse to make the phone slightly thicker so the camera becomes flush.

I don't like the bump. The iPhone SE has it's camera flush. The Huawei P10/P10 Plus has it's camera flush. The Galaxy S8 has it's camera flush.

Apple chose to make the camera bump bigger on the 7 and in the shape of a pill capsule on the 7+. This is one of the major reasons I did not upgrade to the 7+.

I also have issues with the bezels, but this is less problematic for me than the camera bump.

It's simply never bothered me. Even in a very thin case (which is the only kind of case I use) the bump all but disappears.
