What correcting other people’s grammar really says about you,
September 13, 2013 By Anthony James

Slate has a recent article on how to stop being a grammar bully. Interesting in many ways but one of the things it overlooks – it can’t cover every angle, I guess – it when and how you can correct another’s grammar. Or should you just let it go?

From Slate: “Those who engage in public corrections of this sort often are looking to feel good about themselves, and, according to Benoît Monin, a psychology professor at Stanford University. “Another is to give myself evidence that other people’s language skills suck. So by putting down other people, I can feel better about myself.”

Oh, and eyoungren you don't have to reply and like every comment on here, your opinion is but one, don't need everything in your mind on one topic.

Apple with every hardware iteration improves the battery life. And your battery will already be over a year old by then with lots of charge/discharge cycles so I really doubt your old phones battery will be better than the new one.
The new hardware is always faster and runs the new iOS better than the old and as far as bugs those are not guaranteed to be there but if there is any they will correct them like they always do.

You know I meant the 7s and not the 7 right?

Someone always says this..why not wait for the S? Then...why not wait for the next model? Problem is there's always something new next year. If you follow this logic then you'll always be waiting...

Not really, since this is a complete overhaul of the IPhone, not just a new design.

So, it was an utter disappointment that Apple did NOT redesign the 7... That will be four models of fugly looking iPhone I cannot stand.

1) the 6 series design is not ugly. It is completely different than 5, so angry-about-change 5-lovers can't handle it.

2) people loved the 6 design but hated the antenna. So Apple fixed the antenna location. Now people still aren't pleased. Lol.

Some people really don't like how it's round. Some people really do like how it's round. I find it feminine. Others find it pleasant to look at.

Antenna bands (on the 6s) were a slap in the face to former apple design. Now that they're gone it's what it should be been previously, but will not please those who don't like the round design.

It is to me and I own a 6s+

A lot of people love it. I am not one of them.

And while I hated the antenna lines I would have sacraficed that fix if only Apple would have fixed the fugly camera bump. When other manufacturers can (if they wish) make the camera(s) flush with the casing then it becomes obvious that Apple believes this to be a design feature. How else to explain, other than being too thin, Apple's choice to stick with the camera bulge. It's not because they can't eliminate it - it's because they won't.

Sounds as if the author has a case of low self-esteem. :D

Yes, that seems to be the general consensus around here. I am the odd man out.

However, the major use of my phone is for…phone calls. I have televisions and computers at home for video/movies/tv. I have computers at home for games and heavy web browsing. So, my devices see limited texting, email and limited web browsing use.

I work on a computer all day. So my phone sits. I don't need to use it then for email or web browsing as I am staring at three monitors directly in front of me for over 8 hours a day.

The majority of my camera roll is full of pics I take to post to sites like this one, screen caps, or pictures to send the wife so she can see what's on the shelves at Walmart.

So, as long as a phone can make calls, text, email and do light web browsing I don't need powerful processors, high-MP cameras or ram out the wazoo. Therefore, I buy my phones based on how they look.

Just my personal preference.

A flip phone would be perfect for you.
[doublepost=1497838368][/doublepost]I have the 4S and love it still. The battery is all I have issues with. I think a new battery is a little less than $100 so debating doing that or getting the 8.

Or we care about education. I don't expect people to be perfect but most of the time they don't even try. They write an entire essay and use zero punctuation.

That has been suggested before by those who assume I value things in the same way they do by placing needs over wants and performance/features over aesthetics.

But I don't.

I value looks over performance/features and I value wants over needs. Since the iPhone can also meet my needs, which any basic flip phone could meet, it all works out.

Hence I get an iPhone because I like the way it looks (or at least I did). Since I only upgrade every 2 to 3.5 years I want to like the phone I am using for that long.

The 6s+ I have currently was acquired because of circumstance, not because I like the design.

I still think the Razr flip phones from back in the day look good.

I had an iPhone 5. I personally think the 6 design is better looking, especially in silver.

I don't think iPhone 4S is 7 TIMES Faster than iPhone 4 in GPU. But in reality the GPU of iPhone 4S is only 2 times powerful in GPU (Multi Core) in geekbench score. 400 (on 4S) vs 210 (on 4).
So in the end of this thread, if you have an iPhone 4S or newer then it is worth to wait until 2018 iPhone. Starting from iPhone 2G up to iPhone 7 they are completely the SAME Wallpaper, GUI Interface.. 4 By 6 SQUARE icons... etc

I bought the 7 plus with the intention to upgrade to the 8, i went with the 12 month upgrade option. But having owned the 7 plus I really like this phone, and hearing now that the 8 will only be offered initally in the smaller size i might just stay with the 7, we'll have to see how it shakes out

Everybody seems to be so concern for a new redesign, but as we seen b4 redesign iPhones come with problems until the S version comes out. In 2018 we will most likely get a iPhone 8 plus. This year will be most likely a waste of money unless you get the iPhone 7s due to it being the most refine model of its series. I'll be getting an iPhone 7s plus, or I'll be waiting another year and get the inevitable iPhone 8 plus that will be more thought out and bigger than the 2017 one.

For me personally I enjoy having the newest hardware with the latest specs. Plus I upgrade every year anyway. It all depends on your personal situation. Too many threads like this try to put everyone in the same box. You wait til 2018-I'll buy this years and 2018 model.

Well make fun all you want, while you all get the new version I'll stick with the iPhone 7s plus, which I'll promise will have better battery and no surprise bugs like your refresh will.

Why do you have such a problem with how other ppl spend their money?? I don't care if u think I'm wasting it, I'm buying the new one EVERY launch

I'm not getting another one until 2020 or 2021.
my upgrade isn't till 2019. my 7 is still going strong so ill wait till then. The key would be for me not to upgrade to iOS 12 or 13 till I know its safe and won't slow down my device or just not upgrade iOS at all past ios11 and maybe get a battery replacement if necessary.

I am waiting for 2018 iPhone since my 6S still performs well (and will be better once 11.1 drops).
Those with IUP actually should just upgrade yearly to take full advantage of the program.
Those with iPhone 6 and older are also prime candidates to upgrade this year to either the 8 or X.

my opinion is that next year will be total hardware change the iPhone 8 will stop to exists and the x is only a prototype they will have to do something about that black area not because some people dont like it but because it doesn't look professional

There is no iPhone 7S only 7 or 7+ but the 8 or 8 + are the same as the 7 with only one plus Processor A11 that has 6 cores and faster the same as the X the wireless charge is not an issue but $200 deferent is,

I share your thought on this..
I'm still a 6S user for the moment..
A friend asked me the other day why I haven't changed to the latest. I replied "I can't be bothered, and anyway no one cares these days what smartphone it is so long as it works". He loved my response..
If it ain't broke.... !!!
I really don't understand people who want to throw money away in "buying" an untested potentially unreliable iPhone to the masses.. Yes I know some people will say it passes all Apple's test but in the "real world" where people break things almost straight away is it worth the risk? ...
I'm waiting for a worthwhile upgrade my carrier (EE UK) can dupe me into ... until then I'm happy with what I have. That's my opinion anyway!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that.

You've inspired me, haha. If anyone asks if I got "that new iPhone ex" I'll reply, "I just bought the first smartphone I saw at the Apple store. As long as it works, I can't be bothered with details." :D

People see a product they really like the look of and want to buy it. Not hard to understand, so no need to say they’re throwing their money away.

And what the heck does “but in the "real world" where people break things almost straight away is it worth the risk? ...” mean? Might as well never buy anything at all in case we break it.

In my opinion people who use iPhone 6 and newer are still safe until the 2018 new generation iPhone birth. Right now majority of people who upgrades to the iPhone 8 are iPhone 5/5S and older iPhone user cuz their device is getting not supported. Some intense game is only for iphone 6 and newer..

But still those who upgrades to The X are iPhone 7 and older because if they bought an X they will FEEL the Latest Design, Real Upgrade, new screen, Future Phone, OLED and Face ID is appealing to people just like the 5S when it got TouchID in 2013... most 6/6S/7 users skipped the 8 cuz they feel they are upgrading to the same phone
