And the sad part is that people happily accept this wall-garden as if its the best OS possible. Sure, iOS has a ton of good features, but it is far from where it should be at this point. A file system would save me the headache of using iTunes to make ringtones from my library.
To be fair, some people should not be mucking around with their file system. I work with two of those people and one of them is very good at deleting stuff while having no idea how she did it. The other just doesn't have a clue about the inner workings of iOS.

It'd be nice to have some way to limit those people so Apple isn't having to deal with their messing things up, yet allow those who wish to utilize the filesystem.

No idea how that would work out though.

Can you not install your own ringtone from just downloading the from the app store on an iPhone ? really i do not know. With Android you grab any sound file, or ring tone app, and install the ones you like. No computer hookup or anything else needed, can do it all on the fly.
No. :)

You need iTunes to sync it back to the iDevice. After you convert it to the correct format that is. :)

MP4 with a ringtone file extension: .m4r

I never knew so many people were hooked on iMessage, I do like not needing a cellular signal for it, but other than that I don't see how it's different from regular texting.
I detest iMessage. I found that it resulted in me missing texts, misdirecting or not receiving texts on my phone-which is the only place I want my texts to reside. I share devices with my wife and kid, so I don’t really want certain texts to be on all our devices. Maybe I just never took the time to get it working properly, but it wasn’t for lack of trying.

Or this, a lot of times I use my nexus 6P or Pixel XL as a portable harddrive, I have a big PDF I downloaded on my PC, I just plug my phone into the PC, and grab the file and throw it onto the phone, within seconds, unplug the phone, and the PDF is there on the phone for me. Easy, no big deal. Can this new file system in iOS 11 do the same now ?

Default app settings, let's say I prefer a different keyboard, or different Maps app, or different browser. I want the option to set defaults, not just be Safari only, or Apple maps, etc... I want the simple option to have specific apps set to default, and with my iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 10, that was not an option, which I found extremely frustrating. Did iOS 11 finally change that, allowing user default setting options ?

Sadly probably not. The new file system is a step in the right direction, but it will still plague us with the crappy software known as iTunes. iTunes is cancer for a phone tbh.
[doublepost=1505171586][/doublepost]Anyone remember this? I can imagine some savage memes or info graphs like this appearing tomorrow.

Wow, just wow is all I can say. And iOS 11 is the best smartphone OS to a lot of people here, but you are handcuffed so bad on this system. I am not saying Android Oreo is the #1 best OS, no, but come on Apple, allow some BASIC simple setting options for the user like this already, it's frigging 2017. And these few things, but very important things, are why the Jailbreak is still desperately needed to unlock the full potential of iOS

That's why I have been saying, if Apple incorporated the top ten JB tweaks to iOS 11, it would be the best smartphone, and the best OS ever, and I would ditch the Pixel in a heart beat, and happily come back to Apple, as would many others. But by being so locked down, so handcuffed it's just so frustrating and sad. Because it doesn't need to be this way anymore, Apple could inappropriate a lot or all of this stuff into stock if thy wanted. But they see zero reason, because their fans come out and buy these new phones year after year.

You can get around iTunes pretty much with Bridge. Bridge will place any media in the correct app. Ringtone, video, picture, music, etc.

They are STILL here and I'm just wondering why? Are you guys trying to make yourselves feel better about your choices? I really don't get why you would be so against people making their own choices about what they prefer. What the actual F***! Lmao

Android users need to realize that most iphone users do not care what androids can already do. Most iphone users are also aren't blind to new features to the iphone that androids already has had for years. I'm only interested in what apple brings to the iphone. If we get "oh I can grab any sound clip and make it my ringtone without plugging my phone into a computer" then good, if not, don't really care. Android users always argue about the most insignificant features that their phones can do.

Android users already realize that, if you simply look at what they're saying overall is that  can do better and should for how much they overcharge for the phones we use. You and the above poster can't seem to grasp that. ./shrug

Androids are so good they need to save us from Apple’s greed every year around September. lol

iPhone is only the most popular in the states, Android still has majority of phone worldwide by a lot (proving people do want customization).People have been asking for customization for years, what rock have you been under?
I think you have mistaken something here. I said <1% of iPhone users care about customization, not all phone users. But you would still be wildly incorrect with that 60% number. Second, iPhone IS the most popular phone in the world. Android is not a phone, it is an operating system used on many different types of phones. And customization is not why it is popular, it's because it is AVAILABLE and in 99% of cases CHEAP. THAT is why it is the dominant OS by market share.

I mean, I can double the storage on the iP7+ and it still end up cheaper than the Note 8.

Can we stop acting like the iPhone's pricing point is so DRASTICALLY above anyone else lol.

Which iPhone exactly is the most popular then? There's multiple iPhone just like there's different phones on Android. You can literally get a 5s/se for 150-200 bucks. That makes it just as cheap as budget/trap phones.

You mean like 90% of cellphones would've been a better point to say.

No lol it is drastically overpriced compared to phones that are actually good. ./shrug

This thread is so funny. People posting are simply suggesting how good iOS could be and how good iPhone could be, while iPhone users are defending what Apple does like it's gospel. Good times.

I plug my S7 Edge into my computer all the time and copy files to and from it. I need iTunes to do that on an iPhone huh? Ugh.

I think iPhone users are wondering why AndroidStans are worried about what Apples does or doesnt do?

It's kind of like Kia Optima owners always trying to prove themselves to other cars on the road.

Nice deflection on "90% of cellphones".

So which phones are actually better than the iPhone X and give us the price of said phone.

You are an unworthy opponent.

I mean, you're on an Apple forum full of people that enjoy Apple products. Why is it a surprise that anyone is defending iOS lol. I just don't think it being *different* from Android means it's *less than* Android.

Well, then that's silly. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm here to talk about the new iPhone. I was hoping for more. I'm using an Android device right now, but really thought the iPhone X would be my next phone. The more I read about it, the less I see that happening, but I'm hear to discuss it. That's it.

And I just sent back a Note 8 because I thought it would be a great phone to replace my 6. The phone itself was awesome. The OS? Was horrible, starting with google music and ads on apps?

The point is, some of us who have been using iOS for a while will not be moving to Android anytime soon and those on Android will not be moving to iOS no matter what Apple does. It really is pointless to try to argue how "great" Apple could be. Apple knows what their customers want and they know a 4 y/o can pick up their phone and learn how to use it in less than 1 day.

Another poster said it was the "Fisher Price" of OS which I agree with, but what exactly is wrong with it?
