A blinking home button isn't confusing at all. Putting it next to the earpiece and camera on a flat face however, doesn't seem right. Giving the home button another purpose, as well as blinking to intuitively tell the owner to press it, makes perfect sense.I do think a LED light for notifications is a great idea. But i would much rather like it on the opposite side of the front camera. And a small one, an Apple-like-one if one was to say so.
A bliping home button seems way to gimmicky, at least for my taste.
And it doesnt make sense from a design/function point of view, the home button itself isnt associated with notifications. Its a home button.Example: The blinking home button would make sense if, when pressed, would take you into notifications center.
A blinking home button is confusing and doesnt make sense.
I'd go a step further and make that LED display different colors according to what kind of notification is waiting for you. For example:I was just looking up posts on this. I would love for them to have a simple notification light like Blackberrys do. Those don't come close to "keeping you up at night." And you can set your phone down and see from a distance if anything went off.
It'd also be great, but probably asking for WAY too much out of a new "Apple Innovation," for it to have custom settings - such as only blink for texts and missed calls, certain apps, no apps, etc.
Really now. Nobody puts their iPhone face down and nobody wants to be pressing the home button each time to see if anything new has come in. Why hasn't the home button been used for notifications since say...the iPhone 3G?
This is long overdue. I need to see this happen in iPhone 5.
EDIT: Obviously this feature would be optional, reasonably colored and modestly lit so don't freak out with your reply acting like you're going to have an incredibly bright light blaring at all hours that you can't turn off like so many drama queens on this forum will certainly be tempted to do.
Obviously? That word doesn't mean what you think it does.Obviously this feature would be optional, reasonably colored and modestly lit
I'd go a step further and make that LED display different colors according to what kind of notification is waiting for you. For example:
Red for texts, blue for emails, green for missed calls, and white for 3rd party apps.
If you have more than one kind of notification, such as 2 texts and an email, you'd get a flashing sequence of Red, Red, Blue over and over until you press the home button.
And of course, you'd be able to customize these colors to whatever kind of notification you want.
iOS 5 brings LED Notification to the iPhone. Not on the home button though.
Why do we need a blinking LED right under the display? Surely if there was a notification you would see the screen light up? Your phone already rings, vibrates, lights up, and repeats that up to 10 times for texts.
How can it be that you miss all these alerts but a little light would magically get your attention?
Maybe it could be connected to your heart... 2 skipped beats for a text, 3 for email, stop your heart til you answer a call. is that enough to get peoples attention?
The bit about the heart was my attempt at humour, but seriously I think they have the alerts covered.
Of course, didn't you see my heartstopping idea?Ever think outside the box?
And how would the phone know when it's in sight? That would need ringer profiles to be an efficient option, which the phone doesn't have (and isn't getting for a year at least)The phone doesnt have to vibrate, ring, light the whole screen up or repeat it... At times when I can see the phone I would rather have the indicator come on then waste battery on vibrate and lighting the screen up and ringing.
Of course, didn't you see my heartstopping idea?

It's nice to imagine these things but it's another thing to find a way to implement them practically.
iOS 5 will include the ability to utilize the camera's flash for notifications.

I'm aware, but that's stupid. It makes much more sense to put it on the home button, and I can see Apple doing that with iPhone 5.iOS 5 will include the ability to utilize the camera's flash for notifications.
