I still can't get it to work on my home WiFi after troubleshooting it all day. I restored my 6s to factory settings yesterday before ruling out my phone as the culprit. I've spent hours on the phone trying to get it resolved. I've talked to about five people at AT&T as well as two tech support techs at Apple and two at my local ISP. It works fine on my phone on other networks, so the problem has got to be my old (short) AirPort Extreme router or my ISP, but they insist that they aren't blocking any ports and an Apple networking expert did screen sharing with me today to look over my router settings and couldn't find anything wrong. I'm going to buy a new (tall) AirPort Extreme router soon to see if that fixes it. But somebody in this thread said he has an old (short) AirPort Extreme router and WFC works fine on his network, so I don't know. Maybe I'll have to switch ISPs to get this working at home.

I'm using an Airport Extreme 5th generation router that has a cable modem hooked to it and also hardwired to our PS4. It is working just fine in my home. We only get about 1-2 bars from ATT inside the house, so this is awesome :D

Tried several times over the last few days and it finally worked this afternoon.
Sometimes at home it is in WiFi mode and sometimes it isn't...
Not sure if I've talked to anyone with it yet.

Gary

I'm wondering if that is because it goes into wifi calling mode when the signal is weak. Maybe your signal is sometimes good and sometimes not?

No one said you HAVE to go into airplane mode. Going into airplane mode and then turning wifi back on simply is a way of forcing the phone to switch to wifi calling to test if it's active or not not since it deactivates the cellular radio.

Wifi calling will always be automatic once you have it activated and your cell signal gets weak. That's kinda the point of the thing. :);)

BTW I want that wallpaper! effin awesome!

Oops. Wrong one. Sorry.

Yes, I know that. I was replying to the suggestion to use FaceTime Audio. :D

I would be great if some company would make an app that would combine all the FaceTime, WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook etc call and all the other into one. A bit similar as with BB Messenger, which combined all the income text messages from several sources into one place. Probably never gonna happen......

Why exactly is ATT not supporting this on an iPhone 5s? I think this is really a dis-service to the people who purchased these models knowing they had the capability per Apple https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203032

iPhone 5c and later are capable of Wi-Fi Calling. Check with your carrier on which models are supported.

This may be a deciding factor for me on switching carriers. ATT always seems late to the party.

Well in my experience WiFi signal can fluctuate or your WiFi router or ISP can have intermittent issues without you being aware so that's not entirely impossible

The manner in which they have WiFi calling set up is different from the 2 other methods/means set up among cell providers

In short the 5S/5C came out too soon to have ideal compatibility.

Even if AT&T were to retroactively find a way for the 5S/5C to work the performance of a 5S using WiFi on ATT would be significantly degraded vs 6 6P 6S 6SP and 5S/5C because they also don't have full HD Voice and VoLTE compatility ( key things that make WiFi Calling work it's best ) not only would 5C/5S customers be peeved at poor call quality or inability to make calls but the number of call drops would soar dramatically because handoff/handover
( made possible by HD Voice or VoLTE coverage ) wouldn't be able to properly occur on your 5C/5S

if say your router/WiFi connection craps out, your ISP has a sudden issue/outage, power outage where you are , you travel outside WiFi range, your cell/network/phone signal somehow briefly becomes stronger than your WiFi signal then boom no handover call drops people moan "Oh ATT is the worst this feature was supposed to make the network coverage better not worse"

In short support for ATT WFC on 5C/5S would be difficult if not near impossible , would be a PR Nightmare and a greater customer disservice than simply saying "yeah we can't/don't/won't support WFC on 5C/5S"

And granted while "late to the party" ATT tries to do things right not rushed/half cocked, and they did this legally unlike some carriers lastly Verizon and some others STILL Don't offer WFC so ATT isn't last on this one

Also not to make assumptions cause I know some can't or won't for various reasons but
5C/5S owners are about due for upgrades if not to 6S 6SP then 7 and 7P next year

Also it was ( rightly) assumed/expected by both ATT and Apple that 3GS 4 4S 5 and many 5C 5S customers would upgrade even if they just go to the 6 or 6P

I can confirm that wifi calling is working on my iPhone 6. I activated it, then put my phone in airplane mode with the wifi turned on and made a couple of phone calls. Neither of which were to other AT&T customers. One was to time & temperature and the other was to my company office.

How do we know when it's activated? Is there a logo at the top of the screen that says WiFi like the old M-Cell logo? I activated twenty minutes ago and nothing...
Put your phone in Airplane mode and then manually turn on the wifi. You should see "AT&T Wi-Fi" at the top of you phone.

It says it requires AT&T HD Voice which requires both the caller and receiver to have AT&T HD Voice. This means, you cannot use this feature to call outside of AT&T.
Not true. I've now made several calls using this feature and non of them were to other AT&T customers.

How do we check if we have "HD Voice"?

I'm too afraid to set it up because I don't want to get charged extra. I've got Family Talk plan for minute, Unlimited Text, and the grandfathered Unlimited data. However, I've never seen "HD Voice" anywhere on my bill
Well it only works on iPhone 6 / 6+. If you have one of those then you have HD Voice...I'm guessing. It's not a paid feature as I understand it.

Just exchanged to the Sim Free unlocked iphone 6S and Wi-Fi calling works now.

Is your phone displaying " AT&T WiFi "

Might be a bug, glitch or other issue

See attached screenshots

There's a few comments and threads out there stating the AT&T model rather locked or unlocked is in fact the best model anyways. Apparently there was an error in reporting specifications and the ATT model actually supports and works with the most bands and both GSM and CDMA so might be worth it especially if you'd prefer not to wait out a fix

As 1 of those whom had to rely on a MicroCell like 4 or so years ago let me say this:

Probably a router issue or Time Warner issue

The amount of horror stories I've heard from Time Warner users I've know including some YouTubers and live streamers is crazy high

On the other hand I've heard some bad reviews over certain ASUS routers so it could be 1 or the other or worse both keeping it from working at your home.

Best of luck though

Per Time Warner Cable tech support it is a Router issue and I need to open specific port numbers in the ASUS Router. Howdo we determine the port numbers used by AT&T for this wifi calling?

open your ports

You appear to be correct. I spoke with my Time Warner Cable Internet Tech support and they confirmed Time Warner is not blocking the ports or any ports so they felt fairly certain that it is my ASUS RT-N56U Routher that is blocking the port (s) needed for the AT&T WiFi calling to work on my home WiFi. I have opened my Router admin and now know how to open or forward ports, but I need to know the exact ports AT&T is using to enable WiFi calling. Does anybody know which ports or port numbers AT&T is using for WiFi calling?

AT&T Tech Support said it was 4500 UDP

It says it requires AT&T HD Voice which requires both the caller and receiver to have AT&T HD Voice. This means, you cannot use this feature to call outside of AT&T.
That is completely false. I can use wifi calling to anywhere. You have to have hd voice capability, but it isn't actually be used for wifi calling, at least not in the sense you are thinking of.

I called AT&T last night and they indicated they would call me back today at 4pm pst to give me the port numbers and info. to get it to work. The 4500 UDP did not work, so far. Thanks for the info. I may just have to try a different router if I cannot find a way around the problem and hope its just this old ASUS RT-N56U router that is to blame. If anyone has any other ideas let me know as again I can use ATT WiFi calling at public wifi's but no at home and Time Warner swears it's not them but it is the router. If I get info. from AT&T how to get it to work, or some other port numbers or instructions I will update this later tonight. Thanks again!
