I am trying to locate my iPad 2 wifi. My wife threw it away yesterday. If its still powered and sending out a wifi signal. Is there a way to "find" it? I have a airport extreme, but I haven't found a way to see its device ID in the logs. Any advice is nice since the trash man comes tomorrow to empty the dumpster.

If you know which dumpster it's in climb in and start looking.

Then, once you find the iPad, throw your wife in the dumpster.

Find my iPad/iPhone works fantastic. You can see the location on Google maps and you can have your iPad/iPhone play sounds (and/o display messages). I have used it to quickly find my iPhone before in my house or car. Why would anyone have such a great, useful service that is free and not turn it on?

wife likes a clean house... she cleaned my room and threw it out mistakenly. The iPad had a cracked screen and I was set to replace it tonight. looking for it... its not around. its not set up for tracking because I was going to gift it to dad for christmas.

I have the device ID of it because I am set up for iOS developer. I wish there was a way to see all devices near me that are putting out a wifi signal. Maybe it got moved and is under something.

if it is not set up then sorry you have no chance. I would talk to your wife about this too. Also how messy is your room is she felt the need to through that out?
My BS detector is going off

I would start looking at craigslist for a broken iPad for sale lol
then get in contact with the police to prove its yours.

I wouldn't say brain dead, but rather very careless. Even if the iPad was hiding in a stack of papers, I'd assume you'd go through it real quick to make sure nothing important slipped in.

Hope you find it OP.
Best of luck

I honestly don't believe anyone could be stupid enough to throw out an iPad. You'd literally have to be brain dead.

Agreed. How can you NOT notice it? Unless it was inside of a box/bag and she threw out everything, without even stopping to check what was inside? I'd have a very serious talk with her if that was the case!

Besides, how far can the trash possibly be? If I thought my $500+ iPad was in the trash, you better believe I'd be dumpster-diving.

An iPad is not thin enough to be looked over. How does one do this?!!!!

My head hurts

Ouch that sucks, my daughter did it once with my iPad 1, I was letting her use it after I picked up the iPad 2 she did not pay attention and stacked magazines on top of it and threw them out. Luckily I noticed it in the recycling , case worked great no scratches.
