Resetting the Network settings has the following effect:

Works momentarily, then cuts out.

This is not a good release.

For me the reset worked after five times. Now I've no problems since yesterday, but yes, this golden master is definitely not a good release.

I've zero issues since installation. I did however restore to 3.2.2 and then updated to 4.2. Was having some funky botched install eating up 4 GB under "other".

Since the wipe and reinstallation, everything has been running great.

Enabling internet sharing and sharing my net connection through an iMac - there seems to be no problem at all, the connection is rock solid.

Anyone else try this?

So, now it doesn't work again, after one day of working.
I turned off and on the WiFi, and it's working again, but who knows for how much time.

just thought id' chime in and say i'm having this problem as well, i restored and set up as a new iPad. i've just rebooted it and it's working at the moment but it seems to be cutting out quite a lot.

Are you useing a Airport Extreme ???

Ive had issues ever since i had my ipad with the Airport Extreme... Basically push notifications will not work with this router.. Other routers are fine.. You should try to connect to another router and see if it helps.

i don't have an Airport Extreme but when i tried connecting to my iPhone4 via MyWi the iPad managed to connect just fine, but i don't see how it's a problem with the home router if all my other devices can connect to it and my iPad pre 4.2GM as well.

I'm curious, how many are NOT having wifi problems with iOS4.2 GM?? I have 4.2GM downloaded and ready to go but this wifi bug has me worried.
Are apps running ok with 4.2GM?? Also, if by chance I have too many problems with GM version can I revert back to 3.2??
Thanks all in advance!!

you can revert back, i've just done it myself to see if i'm still able to connect to my home WiFi, so far so good. you'll need to download the 3.2 ipsw which you'll be able to get with a quick google search

Doesn't clicking the Restore button in iTunes revert you to 3.2?

This really sucks, my wifi has completely stopped working.

After updating to 4.2 GM, it didn't work but after rebooting the iPad, it was fine. Few hours later, it wasn't working again, rebooted and then ok.

Now, after not using the iPad overnight, wifi doesn't work at all. It's on and shows the signal strength, but none of the sites will connect. I've tried rebooting, resetting all networking settings, resetting all settings...nothing.

I'm not trying to do a new install of 4.2GM.

Thanks steezy, I think I still have 3.2 downloaded from when I was going to try beta3(which I never tried due to too many apps not working with beta3). Going to give the GM version a try tonight when I get home tonight..
Giadoan I would imagine the final bugs will be fixed for the final version which is supposedly going to be released in a week or so...
I'm anxious to get multitasking!!

Have you actually turned the wifi off in Settings? I can only assume this switch turns off the physical wifi radio and clears the problem. I had the same this morning, did a reset and it still didn't start working until I turned the wifi off and back on.

For me the issue continues. No reboot, restore or on/off the WiFi seems to resolve it.:mad:

Is your wifi on mixed mode? ie B+G?

I swapped ours out to G only and it's running like a champ at the moment (5 hours and counting).

I also re-Downloaded the GM from Apple and did a complete re-install and set the iPad up as a 'new iPad' and did not restore any past syncs.

What the hell...I just did a full restore, setup as new, and wifi does not work.

Yes, my Netgear signal is B + G mode, but every other device I connect never has problem with that, even the iPad, before I installed the GM!

I'm running a fresh 4.2 GM installed from zero.

Try the mode swap and/or a channel change.
I've just switched the router to only G mode.
Now we'll see.;)

Anyway, it seems stupid that I have to change my router settings after I upgraded my iPad to the latest software — and that's not a beta!

I really hope that Apple adjust this for the official launch.

I'm having this problem too - very annoying! Wi-Fi smybol still there, but no internet after a few minutes of use. Only way to get it working again is to reset my ipad.

I thought the problem was something to do with the Airport Express i was trying Airplay out with, but the problem is still there without it.

Looks like Im heading back to 3.2.2. For a GM this is pretty poor.

MODEL:WiFi only ROUTER:Linksys WAG54G ROUTER MODE:G only SYMPTOMS:WiFi stops working after a minute or so of use RESOLUTION:A reset gets it working again, but only for another minute or so, then stops again. Downgraded back to 3.2.1, and all is now well

yes the issue continues (fresh install, reset network etc etc)
seems like this is not going to be the real GM...
