I had to go back to 4.2 Beta 3. Now my Wifi if working fine again.
Did you do that doing a restore to beta 3? Because restoring the iPad to 4.2 beta before the Golden Master meant to own an activated iPad with a developer account. Are you a paying developer?

yes the issue continues (fresh install, reset network etc etc)
seems like this is not going to be the real GM...

Let's hope this! Not every user has this issue, so if nobody reports this to Apple, they won't fix it for the official release.

Hmm, it's odd folks are having issues this late in the release cycle.

Could it be an application in the background that's "hosing" your internet connection? The reason I ask this, is that several folks with the issue are still seeing 100% (three bars) on the WiFi signal indicator, but have lost connectivity.

Are there any specific error messages? Can someone give more detailed description, like "I do this, this, and this, and get this message." Do a quick Power + Menu button screen shot if you get any message. One that shows the message plus the full "3 bar" WiFi signal might be nice.

I will check the developer feedback on the GM release at Apple's Developer Portal and see if I can find any WiFi bugs being reported.

If you're not a developer, and have an issue - I can take your detailed description and enter it as a bug report.

(PS - I'm not affiliated with Apple, I'm just your average indie developer.)

I bought a registration on eBay for $7 a while back.

Luckily, it seems that a lot of users on the web are discussing this issues, also on the Apple Support message board, so Apple will surely be reported.

This sucks, its been really bad today. Keeps dropping out, most of the time I have to power down the ipad to get it working again. It's very reminiscent of the original iPad wifi issues where it kept dropping your router. Apple fixed that in 3.2 though.

Well taking the plunge as we speak... figured if wifi acts up at all tonight I will revert to 3.2 so it will be useable tomorrow for work.. hoping to be one of the lucky ones who doesn't have wifi issues.. fingers are crossed ;)

Just curious what routers people are using. I haven't had a problem till connecting to my friends netgear 834dg. Wondering if it's router specific.

Same here since installing the GM. Upgraded from 3.2.2 several times, both with a settings restore as well as clean install.

Also did a hard reset to my router. In the end however, it seems all of this is not working.

Weird thing is that there is absolutely no pattern in the connectivity.

No problems here after a couple of hours' use of GM.

Read a lot of these threads with mounting trepidation before taking the plunge and trying it out - but all seems fine. Posting for the benefit of others like me...

This could be a hard bug to squash, seems there is no pattern to it.

All I can help with is - I was experiencing it, I re-downloaded the GM from Apple, restored and setup as a new iPad, switched the router to G only, changed the channel and now all is well.

I would be surprised if this is the final release judging by the severity of the bug/problems people are experiencing.

Are you seeing the same issue on the developer forum? I wish I could give you what you're asking for but its completely random. I'll be surfing the web then will try to load another page or click a link on a page and the status bar only goes about 1/10th of the way and stops. The wifi signal shows three bars, then I get a popup that says ...

"Safari cannot load that page because you are not connected to the internet".

Thats all that happens and its so random. I use to be able to turn wifi off and on and it would work again, now I have to totally power cycle to get it back up. It usually only lasts about 10-15 minutes for me. Yesterday it lasted a lot longer.

All went exceptionally well and after an hour of running Pandora, surfing the web, looking at photos and checking mail haven't had one glitch!! I'm totally digging Multitasking, need to do some exploring and see what else I'm going to like... At the moment I'm trying to print, it see my network printer BUT it wants my printer user name & password?? I'm running Windows 7 and never set it with a user name and password so I'm kind of stumped on that one!!

You need a guest account in Windows. It's asking for your admin user name and password for you windows account.

Anyone else with this problem?

Yes. Wifi-only iPad. Linksys WRT-54g router, upgraded to Tomato. G only. Installed 4.2 GM Tuesday and immediately had problems: network works for a few seconds, then stops. Strength indicator remains on, in browser the spinner keeps spinning. I can toggle airplane mode to reset, but it fails again in a few seconds.

Did a pretty painful downgrade to 3.2.2 and am back online.

Incidentally, my iPad had another network problem with the original 3.2 firmware. It wouldn't see the network when it woke up from sleep. 3.2.1 fixed that problem. This time I stayed away from the 4.2 beta releases because I wanted as much stability as possible. Instead I got broken wireless and a stolen hardware orientation lock. Quelle dommage.

after checking here and other places online i decided to go back to 3.2.2 and what a surprise my Wi-Fi is running as it always did. it's a shame cause i really liked what we got out of 4.2, more so than when 4.0 was released for iPhone 4. hopefully they'll be able to fix this before the official release :)

Thanks Chundles, giving my user account a password did work.. I couldn't find a print option with in the "Pages" app, wrote a document but when I went to print it I just couldn't find that option anywhere within Pages, I imagine the app will need/have a update when the final version of iOS 4.2 is released... Now off to see if there is any bugs with my all my other apps, so far so good!!

I'm having WiFi problems on the 4.2 GM too! I would get connectivity for a few minutes, then lose it. Only way to get it working again would be to restart the iPad or switch WiFi on, then off. But even then I only got connectivity for a few minutes before I lost it again. I just rolled back to 3.2.2. I really hope Apple gets this sorted out before it's release. It worries me that not everyone is having this problem. I have a Linksys router.

Wifi problems with 4.2 GM here also. I never ever had wifi problems until this GM. The only beta I tried was 4.2 beta 3 but it ran just fine (aside from Netflix). I downgraded to 3.2.1 and ran jailbreak me.com and am just going to sit tight with this until they fix 4.2. Hopefully they will.
My wifi problems were like most others were having. All the bars were showing but various browsers at various times said I wasn't connected to the Internet.

I would suggest that everyone with an issue post his/her configuration. iPad Model, Wifi network settings (authentication settings, security, ssid broadcast on or off) and router model. It would also be interesting to see if these iPads have issues connecting to other Wifi networks.

As I said before, I have no issues whatsoever. I connect to three different wifi networks and everything is working great.

iPad 32GB 3G, Netgear router.
The WiFi signal is on and shows the bars, but the internet connection falls after 30 seconds I restart the WiFi.

Tried a complete restore multiple times, a network settings restore multiple times, but nothing.

Been testing every beta and WiFi stills fails miserably with iOS 4.2 Gold Master and Dlink DIR-655 on mixed b/g/n. Tested various channels and bands but as all my families iDevices works with b/g/n I see now reason why the router is the culprit here.

I had to revert back to 3.2. Again =/
