I didn't cause it. Someone else used their dirty shirt to clean the phone without my permission. I have been extremely careful with my phone.

I don't care too much if they don't refund it as I love the jet black however I believe I can be careful and those scratches would not have come if it weren't for that guy.

Then you need to pursue the person who damaged your phone and ask that they replace it.

Your own fault. You gave it to someone who does not respect it as much as you. If you can return, and they will accept it as is, then try that.

Except I still love the jet black and have no regrets

Sure you do or you would not post here.

You did cause it by letting this person use or hold your phone. Maybe you can get you friend with the dirty shirt replace your phone as I do not think Apple should. You knew from the beginning the device would scratch, you just bought it anyway.

We will be seeing many threads like this, only the beginning.

There's a moral to this story, never let guys with dirty shirts touch your iphone

I am sure the guy did not mean to scratch the phone, unless he is your mortal enemy. ;)

I bought the Jet Black for one reason = GRIP! I knew going in that it will scratch, but then again I rarely look at the back of it! The only thing that would bother me about the scratches is resale value, but alas I am on IUP.

Some ******* without my permission decided to rub/clean my phones back with his shirt to see the shinyness.
How else would he clean the phone. Don't blame the person for doing something that is normal. I mean we're talking about a phone that is going to be in a pocket (or pocketbook) and get banged around. If it can't handle someone wiping it clean with a shirt, then there's something seriously wrong with Apple's design/manufacturing.

Consider it like getting the first ding on your new car. It hurts at first but now you can relax and just enjoy your phone instead of obsessing about scratches. It was going to happen eventually and it will happen again if you get a new phone.

Apple's customer service is awesome but I don't think they'll replace something they have widely and unadulturatedly expressed would happen once in possession.

Now when I get home it has scratches on the back but the thing is that it's possible my phone would have gotten those scratches long term wise anyways.

Would apple consider my request or should I just consider it an accelerated process of my jet black being scratched over time?

This post is all the more reason why I passed on this iPhone color. It simply scratches or or has abrasions with rubbing on a shirt? That's ridiculous. And no one handles or touches my iPhone except for me.

And no, Apple will not assist you in this type of situation. The iPhone was scratched on your account.

You don't understand. It was his friend not him!!!

It's insane that the logical responses from you people are;

1.) return it asap.

2.) SUE DIRTY SHIRT MAN

3.) see if Apple will replace it anyway.

We're talking about micro-scratches on a tool meant to be used. Obsessive compulsions need therapy - not coddling to perpetuate the behavior.

OP, get a grip. And maybe some therapy.

Why they made that fragile of a finish I don't know. It's like the candy shell cases from speck that look awesome for about a day and then get all the little scratches in them except it's on the phone itself not just a case.

I can't believe people still bought the jet black phone when many were warned by apple themselves that it will eventually scratch...you should not be complaining. It was certain to happen and you were warned.

Is your comment targeting all Jet Black owners or just the ones who are complaining?

All phones get scratched over time. Which means no company is going to replace it because of it.

Why don't you make the fool who rubbed his shirt on it replace it?

I highly doubt Apple will replace it. They aren't going to open the door to that because they know after 2 months everybody with jet black will try to replace their phone due to scratches.

I don't know why people bother getting this color. Just go with matte black.

Relax people.....over time the jet black phone will become matte black as the micro scratches accumulate. The fine scratches will merge into a uniform finish. It's the tenth step in the anodize polish process. Should take about one year.
