If your going to worry about scratches on a phone why buy the dark colours which are going to show marks far more easily than Silver, Rose Gold or Gold? Phones are designed to be a tool not a priceless antique.

the scratches were probably there before he wiped his shirt over it, you just didn't know they were there.

The OP literally said they aren't even easy to see unless it's in direct light. There's no way anyone is paying $1000 for micro scratches.

I doubt I will bother to return it as I already set it up and the scratches will come anyway.

But assuming I decide to return it? If I just say "I want a refund" would that be fine or will they be like "let me look at the phone for scratches"

I didn't cause it. Someone else used their dirty shirt to clean the phone without my permission. I have been extremely careful with my phone.

I don't care too much if they don't refund it as I love the jet black however I believe I can be careful and those scratches would not have come if it weren't for that guy.
Have you lost your mind!? What are you talking about, it's your responsibility. You can't be serious? This has to be a joke

Jet black looks good out of the box. It is a lost cause to try and keep it perfect. Within a year it will look awful. Without a case forget about it, with a case, the dust that gets inside it will act like sandpaper against the finish. I predict the glossy black finish will be a 1 model color.

Here is an idea, hold the guy responsible for scratching your phone and have him fix it for you. Problem solves itself. Or just get a good case because surface scratches are inevitable.

nah, it'll be fine. Similar to my iPhone 5 Slate.

You mean a dirty, scratchy shirt.
Or have been a studded shirt, one with those sequin things all over it.
[doublepost=1475355312][/doublepost]I solved my back of phone case scratch problem.

Turned phone around, started watching videos on screen side. Way more interesting than staring and black anodized aluminum.

Who knew?

I continue to be amazed at the people who are terrified of micro scratches on their jet black phones. If it bothers you that much then put it in a case. As many people have stated on these overblown threads, it's just a phone, not a Babe Ruth rookie card.

Like omg I was just curious.
No need to go all crazy on me.
Exchanging it would mean waiting longer for a replacement most likely which in the long term will scratched anyways. I was considering my options

Exchange it for a different color, wait for jet black to be available.

I will not go any further, I will let you figure out the process to get the jet black eventually with no additional cost.

But you better get a case for the new one.

no, apple does not replace phones for cosmetic things. unless you want to shell out the money for a replacement.

Honestly apples customer service is so good if u return it within the 14 days they'll probably do it no questions asked. Understandably it may not be completely right as it is cosmetic damage, I still don't see them giving u a problem bc I'm sure with the quick look over they give it, the scratches will barely be visible

It's more of a networked device nowdays with call capability.

I used to have a friend that would "clean" my phone or iPod on his sleeve every time he held them. Sometimes he would just pick them up and do it, never understood why! Didn't used to bother me but that was before the days of touch screens and iPhones!

Some ******* without my permission decided to rub/clean my phones back with his shirt to see the shinyness.

Now when I get home it has scratches on the back but the thing is that it's possible my phone would have gotten those scratches long term wise anyways.

Would apple consider my request or should I just consider it an accelerated process of my jet black being scratched over time?

And how was this particular asshat after the beating with a rubber hose and the water boarding :p

But yeah, as others have said, Apple won't replace or repair a device for cosmetic damage that doesn't affect its operation. Sorry, shame to have happened so soon.
