is there really a big difference between 1.1 and 1.3? or do you just mean the 256 part?
stopped by another one today and they didn't have any space grey's in stock (although I think they had others) but said that they could get me one in two days, which I kind of doubted so I passed on ordering it.

I prefer the 1.2/512 and prefer a color other than gold. I decided I wasn't willing to make both concessions.
Hey guys. Just got back from the 5th ave Best Buy in NY. I called a while ago at work to see if they had any, the woman sounded pretty clueless but said they had 1 silver 256 in stock. Fast forward to 8pm (about 4 hours later) I figured I'd stop by, maybe grab the 1.1/256 and sell it if it wasn't for me. I ended up walking out with a silver 512. Can confirm they had 2 gold 256 in stock. I don't have any photos at Best Buy but I'll post a few of mine. Haven't even cracked the plastic seal yet.

going to return the weaker link between this and my 8/256 2015 13" rMBP.

That's what I'm mulling over. My rMBP is "better" on paper, but is it better in real life? Not so sure. When I get to real heavy duty tasks, I do them on my quad Mini or on a supercharged Z87 Windows desktop. It's possible that the 13" rMBP may not really be doing anything for me with its incremental processing abilities. Equally, not sure I feel ready to give it up. Maybe it's a security blanket effect...

Based on the posts here, went over to the local Best Buy (Wilmington, Delaware). They didn't have one for sale, but told me one of the close stores did. Went over there and walked out with a silver 512GB model. Even got to use some Best Buy rewards certificates.
Damn this thing is sweet! It's actually smaller than my Surface Pro 3 and much thinner. Weighs in at 2lbs whereas the Surface Pro 3 weighs 2.375lbs.
The screen is fantastic and I like the feel of the keys.

Concord Pike. Calling is a waste of time. Don't know about the 256. They still had a Gold 512
They're not. I believe some Best Buy stores are receiving three (one of each color) to put on display, but some stores are only putting one or two on display and selling the one(s) that are leftover.

That is not at all what is happening. Display models are going to be base configs. They are in fact getting them before apple stores/online orders. It sucks to hear, but that is the truth.

My local bestbuy has 3 none for sale none of which are base models all the 1.2
I'm shocked they are not base models on display. They are not selling displays to people that is for sure.
I still believe it is. If not, why do some BBs that someone finds one at don't have more than 1 or 2 for sale? It seems they either get the base model or 1.2 and sell what they choose not to put on display.
I talked with the manager when I bought mine. He was very clear - they had not received their display models; the unit I bought had been shipped for inventory. I doubt they'd be putting the 1.2/512 models out for display in any case.
