Any idea why they won't show for in store pickup on BB.com? Will they start to do that tomorrow?

Wondered that myself, calling them before i picked up my MBPR 2015 today was like pulling teeth. I had to provide the model number, they would always say MBA or MBP you mean lol :roll eyes:

There is only one knowledgeable guy at my local BB who works in the back in the MS section, he rocks the cyan blue shirt. He said last week its all up to when the Apple rep brings them by. It was a coin toss last i spoke with him Saturday. The only true way to find out at this point is to just go in the store, and that seems like currently is just as painful lol. At least you have the possibility to come home with one, perhaps not the one you want though specifically.

Seems like most are lucking it with the 512GB/1.2 ghz for $1,600. For my needs, as i don't travel i couldn't justify that model. I just got the 2015 MBPR for $1177 out the door with tax. Ill enjoy the CRAP out of it until Apple hopefully announces a 14" MBR version next year. Im really enjoying the new trackpad, i just need that extra surface area and the 13.3" screen and the extra power will be utilized. Still think its a beautiful machine though, and many will enjoy!

When I bought mine they figured out why they're not showing in the system. Corporate didn't "release" the units to the store yet. They're not bad SKUs, its just best buy has a "street date" in the system and on that date, the corporate retail team has to go in and unlock the bar code to be able to scan\sell. For me, they called into the store support team and they added a ticket to unlock the SKUs tonight, so there won't be issues selling them tomorrow, but for now the store support team had them just manually key the SKU. They're not selling demo units, they're just not used to having products so quick after launch, LOL

I just got my Macbook setup, and I absolutely love it. The size is perfect, the screen is perfect, I love the resolution, glad I was able to get the 1.2 as it runs well, not sure what I'll do with a 512gb SSD tho but for only $140 more than i was going to spend on the base model, worth it I'd say. I'll get half that back when I resell next year.

Luckily the local Apple store had the USBC to USBA so I was able to do a backup of my Air and restore it to my MB, otherwise I'd have been SOL. Have the USB C to AV adaptor on order (2-3 weeks), so will have to wait to be able to charge and usb at the same time, but no biggie. I'm just in love with the trackpad and the keys. Feels so much more modern than the old keyboards. On my iMac it's almost painful to type on the old keys, LOL. Reminds me of when I went from a real keyboard to a chicklet keyboard. Progress is great.

As a side note, mine came with 10.10.2 out of the box, so I did have to update to 10.10.3.

Agree with all of that, especially the first bolded part. Mine came with 10.10.3 - odd!

And yes, based on the conversation I had with the sales clerk and the manager, these are clearly not demo/display units.

Wow these are gorgeous. Wonderful that folks are finding them at Best Buy. (Think I'll have to hit the post office to get a mover's coupon.)

I am resisting because of finances and all, but that gold is just...well, my dragon sickness is starting to flare up something fierce. :p

At any rate, thanks to everyone for posting tips (movers coupon going to stores etc.) and many congratulations to those who have snagged one. Kind of sad about the Apple stores though. I do hope they get stock prior to the 24th.

I feel for the Apple Store employees, stuck selling stuff they don't have in stock and having to explain that to their customers when they can't even say when they'll have them.

Mines stuck on preparing order as well. Let's hope they put some effort into getting these out as soon as possible.

Mine keeps going back and forth. Pretty annoying. I was told it does that to search for inventory to fulfill it. But apparently it doesn't search too well.

Best Buy - 5th Ave (NY)

I picked up the basic model gold there this morning - fyi in case folks are looking. Not sure what their stock looks like

They usually don't for new products, I think because their system isn't as real-time as they want it to be, so it causes issues. I remember a couple years ago the system was setup to take in-store orders the second the new product was accepted into the system, and it would take multiple orders before the inventory caught up that they had depleted stock, so when you'd go to pick it up they'd say sorry we don't have it. Just my guess, I don't know. It's been like this ever since iPhone 5 launch with BBY as far as I can remember. They probably got smacked with a lawsuit for charging for something they couldn't deliver.

Yeah, having worked at BBY corporate years ago, demo units are never counted as inventory, and this was definitely in inventory, so not sure who even brought up that these might be demo units. It's complete nonsense. That would mean that stores with a demo unit would always show 1 on hand which would be way too confusing, which is why most stores put big stickers on demo laptops that say "DNI - Do Not Inventory" because they're not to be counted as on-hand product.

Interesting and didn't know BBY did it that way. I worked in management for Circuit City (obviously a long time ago) and displays were always part of ongoing inventory ("DP" in system) and yearly inventory counts. Then when it was time, we sold displays as "open box". What does Best Buy do with displays after they're done with them, if they're not part of inventory? Or do they put them in inventory then?

Correct, some manufacturers they have agreements to return display units to (as the manufacturer never actually bills the store for it), and other items they don't have said agreements for, so they convert them to sellable inventory and mark them as open box. Just depends on the product.

They add them to inventory once they are able to sell the displays.

Got it. Yeah, CC and BBY often did most things opposite. And well, one is still here and one isn't!

In fairness, Best Buy isn't thriving, they adapted just enough to stay afloat, for now... but after closing 1/3 of their stores last year, and my guess is more to come this year, I wouldn't hold my breath for a success story out of them. The whole model of having a big box store full of employees making money on products with razor thin margins to begin with doesn't make sense.

When I worked for BBY, we didn't sell Apple products, but I remember like the HP and Sony laptops would have a 2-4% margin, pretty typical for computers, that's why they put them in the back of the store, there's no money to be made on them. I'd imagine with my 10% movers coupon I used yesterday, Best Buy broke even or lost money on the sale of the Macbook.

Yeah, I completely agree. Even though I'd never want to be back in retail, I kind of miss those days. As I'm sure you know, If they aren't selling tons of warranties and accessories, they aren't making much money. The only actual PRODUCT that has good margins is home audio.

And yeah, with the Mover's coupon, I wouldn't be surprised if they're losing money on them.

My Best Buy online order has now shipped, Gold MacBook 1.2ghz/512gb.

can you use $50 edu coupon off macbooks on rMB?

Just curious.

I was able to use 10% and $50 with my 2015 rMBP

The #1 push at BBY was always furniture. Office desks, chairs, etc... then appliances have a fair margin as well, then home theatre (namely the speakers, not the amps\head units). Media (CDs and DVDs) and Computers were always notoriously low margin, and likely led to the downturn at BBY since they always had them right when you walk in (Media) and computers (at your 3-oclock). Now computers are in the far back, the media is all but gone, and mobile is in your face, home theatre is at 3 o'clock, and appliances are at 9 o'clock. All the margin items hit you when you walk in. Back when I was at the company mobile wasn't a big category, and it's been 20 years since I worked there, so my guess is Mobile has good margin. I worked at T-Mobile corporate for a while, and I know the VARs commission structure used to be really good, so guessing other carriers are equally lucrative.

That'd be a YMMV, you'd have to check with the store on that one. I have never used edu at BBY.

Yeah, I forgot about Mobile Audio - even higher margins than Home (back then at least). Appliances were decent. CD's were almost always a loss leader or break even.

Right before I started at Circuit, reps wore jackets on the floor, then it went to button-up dress shirts, then to polos. Some were working PT at nights making over $40/hour on commission.

And CC used to have a really cool 25 or $25 rule when they first launched in-store pickup. If the item wasn't at the counter when you got there within 25 minutes, you got a $25 gift card. That was cool, I got a lot of gift cards because stores would slack, hehe.

Now airlines to that... if your bags aren't delivered within x amount of minutes, everyone gets a $20 certificate or 2000 miles, or whatever. LOL. The employees just got a beating.

Haha, always reminded me of the Dominoes delivery guarantee. I think it was them.

Houston Galleria BB

Houston Galleria had 1 512 Gold in stock but wouldn't sell it since they stated it was going to be used for display (but wasn't on display yet). Other skus didn't show in stock

Also, Houston Post offices BB coupons are expired (just picked up packet today).

Good news is 512 gold from BB also has shipped but doesn't have a delivery date yet (UPS tracking number not active yet), but hopeful that I will receive it in time for my trip).

I will be returning a silver 512 to apple today that is being held for pickup.
