Funny after this thread I went into my local best buy. They looked it up in the system, and said nope they have none. The other computer lady overheard and said yeah they have 1 gold 1.2\512gb and she went back and got it. I used the movers coupon (surprised they let me use it, never been allowed to in the bay area stores for macs before).

More funny is after I went to the Apple store to get a USB C to USB A so I can restore my backup from my Air. The Manager helped me. I asked if they got any, and she said no they're not selling in stores for 2-3 weeks and I should just order online. I explained the online order was a 4-6 week wait, and she was in disbelief. Does Angela even communicate with her retail team about anything other than watches?!?!?!?

I told her I just picked one up at Best Buy, and she said I was mistaken, that I bought an Air... cause "best buy would never be allowed to get an item before Apple" ... so I pulled out the receipt and showed her. Again, she was shocked. If I were an Apple retail employee I'd be scared for my job about now. If everything goes to just displays and online ordering, they only will need about half the staff. If this is the new direction Apple is going where their competition gets their products before they do, that's scary.

Too funny. I also went to the nearby Apple Store to get an extra charging set and the C to A adapter. They were amazed. :D They all felt the same way at that store, emphasizing (I thought this was cute, in a good way) that they were speaking personally and definitely not as Apple employees.

I did use the mover's coupon. That's why a $1600 computer went OTD for $1440. ;)

Ahhh, I see what you did there. I didn't read close enough to see you didn't get the base 256GB model. I see now.

Odd they would get the bumped up models first over the base. This whole rease has been odd though lol.

I just went to a best buy, and they said they had one! I said I'd take it. The employee went to the back and another one came out and said it was already sold. Said it was a .com order.

I said that's surprising because all of them are back ordered on your website.

I have a feeling an employee bought it.

I said this before but didn't want to get flamed. You got to check the big box stores like Best Buy. They oddly get products before Apple sometimes. I have no idea why but same with the iPhones being in stock etc.

Right now Apple says store pickup for June 2nd, My local BB says April 22nd-May 8th :)

And hats free shipping you can bump it closer if you pay.

Best Buy pulled the same thing with me back around Christmas when they had the iPad Mini 2 on sale. Another reason I don't like shopping at Best Buy.

So many pictures I'm seeing, the screen looks so tall. Looks more like a 4:3. I'm sure it's an "illusion" with the angles, or how the new keyboard is, but it's just weird.

Just called and confirmed, the Best Buy in Mission Viejo does indeed have them in stock in all colors. She couldn't tell me exactly how many. It's only a 20 minute drive and I have one being delivered on Wednesday morning but I'm still tempted to go get one now haha

Just got back from my work shift at the Mission Viejo, CA store. We got them in a little after 10am this morning. 9 Units in total. We put one of each color on display (so 6 to sell).

The only configuration/color we didn't receive for sale was the 512GB Gold.

One of the space greys went out though. Someone exchanged a MBA they bought a few days ago. lol.

Also, our store is not shipping out any of our current (though limited) stock of these MacBooks for bestbuy.com orders. Our Apple rep said he talked to corporate and they wanted the revenue for our store, so external stock checks are going to show zero. This may be why some people who are asking about the SKU checks when they call their Best Buy may not show any in stock, lol.

just picked up a 512 space grey from the best buy in west LA.. they seemed to have a few of each color.

I assume best buy was NOT supposed to sell them today and most purchases (including mine) were display units which we lucked out and were able to get..wouldn't be surprised if anyone who got them today at best buy are among the first 100 in the country to physically have them :)

I went to my local Best Buy and he said they didn't have any (even though they had the display on the wall) and checked his computer for me and showed that none are in the area and that none are in transit to the store. Also said they were backordered to may 2nd. Kinda frustrating that other BB's have them.

called local best buy, one store said they have one coming today, but it was ordered by someone else. guess maybe someone here lol

I just called a different store in the area and they said this item has been deleted from the system but that all the other stores in the area have them on order. She said she couldn't really tell me what that meant or when they would come in because she didn't know their truck schedules. Ugh...

Something odd is going on. Both the Irvine and Orange stores told me they had no stock and their computer system showed no other stores in the district have any in stock. Irvine had told me they had one and when I showed up, it was a demo model they had in the back and they refused to sell it to me saying it has a bad sku and Apple wouldn't permit it to be sold. Complete *********

I think that's exactly what's going on and I bet there are going to be issues when these people try and get Apple Care. I'm betting they show up as demo units that weren't supposed to be sold

Yeah, that's odd. And sorry to hear about them wasting your time driving over there. Did you go to the one in Irvine (off Lake Forest Dr) or the one in Tustin (Tustin Marketplace off Jamboree)? Our store has heard that the Tustin store in general is terrible.

Usually the people who answer the calls when you call the local Best Buys don't know ***** about products/releases in general.

Odd cause they rang up perfectly normal with no manager override. I guess if it's the same sku (demo and retail) that may not matter. Either have, have receipt so doubt Apple would deny claim. Definitely not worried about adding Apple Care.

agreed. if someone's gonna be in trouble, it's gonna be best buy. customer will take no responsibility, because he can just happen to be in the store and bought it without knowing anything else.

When I bought mine they figured out why they're not showing in the system. Corporate didn't "release" the units to the store yet. They're not bad SKUs, its just best buy has a "street date" in the system and on that date, the corporate retail team has to go in and unlock the bar code to be able to scan\sell. For me, they called into the store support team and they added a ticket to unlock the SKUs tonight, so there won't be issues selling them tomorrow, but for now the store support team had them just manually key the SKU. They're not selling demo units, they're just not used to having products so quick after launch, LOL

I just got my Macbook setup, and I absolutely love it. The size is perfect, the screen is perfect, I love the resolution, glad I was able to get the 1.2 as it runs well, not sure what I'll do with a 512gb SSD tho but for only $140 more than i was going to spend on the base model, worth it I'd say. I'll get half that back when I resell next year.

Luckily the local Apple store had the USBC to USBA so I was able to do a backup of my Air and restore it to my MB, otherwise I'd have been SOL. Have the USB C to AV adaptor on order (2-3 weeks), so will have to wait to be able to charge and usb at the same time, but no biggie. I'm just in love with the trackpad and the keys. Feels so much more modern than the old keyboards. On my iMac it's almost painful to type on the old keys, LOL. Reminds me of when I went from a real keyboard to a chicklet keyboard. Progress is great.

As a side note, mine came with 10.10.2 out of the box, so I did have to update to 10.10.3.

It's total BS that there are some in stores for sale when they can not even delivered ordered ones.

The one in Irvine off Lake Forest. I should have just continued down to your store but I figured it would be the same deal. Clueless people over the phone and I'd show up to demo units they couldn't sell.

They're not demo units, they're just units that haven't been released into inventory yet. My store went through the same thing. They see the street date on them was 4-10 so they had to call store support to be instructed to ring them up by sku since the barcodes haven't been released yet. Multiple stores had the same issue today as my store experience was mirrored among others on here.

Gosh, and I thought I was going to be the one drooling watching all the "Mine was delivered today" on wednesday. And here I am one of the few in the world to get it TODAY! Glad I didn't pre-order after all. Wish I had pre-ordered the USB C to AV adaptor tho. Now I have to wait 2 weeks, but the apple store say they will likely have them this week.

Damn, sorry to hear about that. Yeah, you should've just come down to MV. It's about 8 mins away from the store off Lake Forest. Should've stopped in and said you're looking for the MacRumors dude in Computers, lol.

One weird thing I did notice is that best buy doesn't print laptop serial numbers on their receipts. Is this normal? They used to, maybe not anymore for security reasons? If I were to need to prove the laptop I bought was the one I'm in possession of, how would I go about that? I noticed this on your receipt, then I looked at mine and the only serials they print are the movers guide coupon serial.

Any idea why they won't show for in store pickup on BB.com? Will they start to do that tomorrow?
