I don't understand how some Best Buys with only one in stock can sell them while I was told the one I was trying to get didn't have a sku that would let them sell it per Apple. They are probably circumventing it somehow. Good luck trying to return those or get Apple Care on them.
with my 2015 retina pro, I showed up after calling and being told they had none in stock. They had them, the person on the phone just had no idea.
I think these guys actually called though, or at least 1 did.
Doesn't matter if you call, they are clueless. I was told twice a BB by me had one in stock, only to show up and find out it was a demo model that couldn't be sold.
They told me they had them available in stock to sell, but once I got there they told me they wouldn't receive stock until May.

I did use the mover's coupon. That's why a $1600 computer went OTD for $1440.

Same thing happened to me. Manager wouldn't override it, said Apple wouldn't be happy. That was a demo model and they aren't allowed to sell them. Hope you weren't planning on Apple Care.
When you called did you give the sky or just ask if they had the new Macbook 12"? I have been having trouble with them having any idea what I am asking about.
I didn't call since they didn't pick up but like others said, calling doesn't give you precise information.
Interestingly, they checked the SKU and determined it was not a display model. He told me that they had different, non-retail SKUs in their system.

Appreciate the heads up on best buy having a few. Went to my local store and they didn't have but I had them check every model and hard drive size - another store had 2 gold! Placed inter-store order and I'm hopefully leaving store with a 512GB Gold. Used both movers and edu coupon so $1478.69 after tax. Right in time for my trip overseas for a month tomorrow! Will get pics up later but still packing, etc.

I'm afraid that there's no stock in Hong Kong as far as I can tell; the nearest Apple Store received several demo units, but are directing sales to the online store for now. None of the salespeople I spoke with could tell me when they would get them the MacBook in stock; I'll try again today in any case.
Same situation with the retailers, too; no information on stock, they're telling me 2-3 weeks.

Funny after this thread I went into my local best buy. They looked it up in the system, and said nope they have none. The other computer lady overheard and said yeah they have 1 gold 1.2\512gb and she went back and got it. I used the movers coupon (surprised they let me use it, never been allowed to in the bay area stores for macs before).
More funny is after I went to the Apple store to get a USB C to USB A so I can restore my backup from my Air. The Manager helped me. I asked if they got any, and she said no they're not selling in stores for 2-3 weeks and I should just order online. I explained the online order was a 4-6 week wait, and she was in disbelief. Does Angela even communicate with her retail team about anything other than watches?!?!?!?
I told her I just picked one up at Best Buy, and she said I was mistaken, that I bought an Air... cause "best buy would never be allowed to get an item before Apple" ... so I pulled out the receipt and showed her. Again, she was shocked. If I were an Apple retail employee I'd be scared for my job about now. If everything goes to just displays and online ordering, they only will need about half the staff. If this is the new direction Apple is going where their competition gets their products before they do, that's scary.
