Nothing else to say really. Whether or not they are the same phone doesn't matter. One has a notch with ears, one doesn't. The one that doesn't is preferable to me. If you prefer the other, that's fine too.

just answer this one question from my original post to you:
how is the one on the right displaying the signal status? (wi-fi/bluetooth/etc)
i'm not trying to argue what i prefer vs what you prefer..
i'm just curious about the image you're posting which shows your preferences..
and it's confusing because if the status info on your preference isn't being shown on a notched display then, how is it being displayed?
i mean, really.. you can see that those two phones in the comparison are identical, right?

That's been my point and it hasn't changed. Nobody is ignoring you either... just really not much else to say. You should know by now which one I like.
That is what's being left out of allot of discussions, its not just size, its also the different screen (OLED). The OLED screen will pop and make the other iPhone screens seem dated, IMHO.
I too thought it would be the same screen size of the plus and size of the 8. Nonetheless, I will order the X and exchange in 14 days if I'm not happy but I'm sure I will be. I'm tired of carrying a brick around!
I would choose S8 over S8Plus when I was comparing the two side by side.

Agreed. There is a whole lot more the X has over the 8 or 8 Plus. I’m looking forward to something more compact and modern looking.

Next year... X Plus, pretty likely. Getting rid of the notch... not going to happen for another two years at best. Getting rid of the notch will be a selling factor for people to upgrade all over again in a couple of years.

It's still a bezeled look with a line straight across the top and not a notch with ears.

no way Samsung copies a design flaw.they have already perfected the bezel-less display form factor.
if anything,Apple copied the whole bezel-less + OLED display.keep that in mind.
it shouldn't really be this or that.
bezel-less display without stupid notch is what we want.

remember those ugly antenna bars that were "necessary" of iPhone 6 series? and look how they managed to conceal them easily in 7 series..
Apple always gives away little by little nowadays..perfection is not their policy for some reason.
I expect there to be adjustments as developers and consumers get used to the new gestures.

- side margins look to be there to avoid pushing content down into the rounded corners. They could give those margins back with some careful guidance on usage near the bottom of the screen.
- bottom margin for the home bar seems entirely unnecessary. As soon as people get used to the swipe up gesture then let us hide that bar and use the full height of the screen. iOS 11 on iPad uses a swipe up for the dock in multitasking but doesn’t use an on-screen indicator for it.
Of course by then you’ll have waited a couple of months since September to get your X, then waited for WWDC18, then you’ll be hearing rumours of X2..

You want your cake and eat it too. Assuming Apple stick with FaceID, they aren’t going fully bezelless - currently there is no way to hide cameras and the other elements behind a display.
The comments showing a preference for a 'software bezel' are just opinion but there are a lot of them. Maybe Apple will allow an option for that?
Personally I don’t mind - current status bar is usually translucent showing the app or home screen background behind it, and this follows the same approach. It also gives more of a sense of an edge to edge display.
In landscape mode it will behave just like the iPhone 6/7/8.
So none of the two panes that you have in the Plus models.
Is the 'notch' copyrighted? Maybe Apple has a patent for the notch.
I think it's worth considering that notch may be big. I know, it sounds crazy, but think 'sheep'. Also, I think there's notch shock at first, but this will disappear if you start to see other phones with it.

I am confused by the renders on the previous page. So in portrait mode while running apps and web browsing is the X smaller than the Plus or not? Is there no answer?
there is a difference. however, it’s very slight and trying to describe it via text/pictures is going to be much less effective than trying the phones side by side in your own hands with your own eyes.
i know you wish you could have , today, a definitive comparison as to which one you will like to use better in the most amount of situations.. but it’s just not possible to do that right now.
if you’re on the fence and none of the text/pictures are aiding in clarity for you then you’re just going to have to find some patience inside

if you don’t like it, swap it for the 8 and get the difference in $ back.

ummm no they are not identical the one on the right has a straight bezel going across making it symetrical and the other is an eye sore.
