So I take you like the notch?

I don’t think it looks worse than the s8/LG/pixel2 xl ‘mini-bezel’ thing, but I can totally understand why people hate it. I think it’s a Brexit/Marmite thing. More than anything else these threads remind me of the internet in the weeks before and after the election. Nobody wants a bezel or a notch, I guess it just depends what offends you more.

When it’s in my hands I might hate it. Video is the thing I’m really worried about, when I’m going to be conscious of ‘missing’ information.

Th

Thanks. I got a + so dont know how it is on the regular.
So the home screen won”t rotate ?
and no two panes (which is no use to me.)
But the keyboard could be fit for landscape right?
Anything else?
Settings app → Display & Brightness → Display Zoom.
As you can see you can still have the keyboard in landscape.
But no more two pane UI (which I really like).

Your getting the X?
yeah. i’ll be ordering at 3:00:01 AM..

if you could wait until 3:00:02 to order one, that would be greatly appreciated:)

It’s a notch
(preface— i don’t actually care what it’s called by the public.. just being pedantic on purpose)

that black part at the top isn’t a notch.. the two parts of the screen (the ears) are more of what would be considered a notch.

or, someone who didn’t like the X layout should say “i don’t like the notches up top”
ie- there are two notches. not one

the black part which people call a notch is actually a bezel.

(again— just running out of stuff to talk about.. i realize this is entirely arguable and/or futile)

I currently own a 7 Plus and I will definitely appreciate the smaller form factor and bigger screen size despite everything. Especially when it comes to jean pockets and general handling of the device, it will be much more pleasant.

I did fine with dialup internet too. Would be hard to go back to that now.

Again with the implication that by going to a smaller keyboard, I'm giving something up. That's absolutely not true for me. The smaller keyboard will be a non-issue for me. You're drawing parallels where none exist. I was fine with first grade. And you know what? It would be extremely simple to go back. See how easy it is to falsely associate two things that ought not be associated?

I suspect it will be a non-issue for most others as well. Otherwise I would have expected a huge revolt when Apple released the SE. Yet I see lots of people who love their SE. I've also not seen a flood of people complaining that they're unable to adjust to such a tiny keyboard.

If you lack the ability to move backwards, that's fine. But I think the SE is proof that it's not a widespread issue.

I am confused by the renders on the previous page. So in portrait mode while running apps and web browsing is the X smaller than the Plus or not? Is there no answer?

You can make your own decision.

I've tried to scale the images as accurately as possible.

Is no app content or text allowed in the gesture area?

Also this image suggests the X is wider than the 8

But this says its the same width

Which is correct?

First of all, I'm was even talking to you. You chose to respond to my initial post. I'm speaking for myself and myself only. If you are fine with a smaller keyboard, good for you. That does nothing for me though, so I miss your point.

Your SE logic also makes little sense. When Apple released the SE, it was not a "flagship" device. Many people purchased and purchase it to date for various reasons and love it, but it was a mid cycle release between the 6S and 7. It was not the 2016 flagship from Apple, otherwise it would've been received differently.

As far as I know it is physically slightly wider than the standard 8 but is the same number of ‘points’ in width, i.e. the same number of UI elements, icons, fonts of a certain size will fit across.

Reading that back that’s a terrible explanation, but I know what I mean.
As in it’s a few mm wider than the 6/7/8 but is seen by iOS as being the same width in terms of showing things?

So the X will show the same lines on the same "levels" due to the width?

It’s not all about screen size. Some of us Plus users have larger hands and the form factor of the Plus allows us to hold and use the phone comfortably. I’ve skipped the X and gone with the 8 Plus and will replace it with a larger X Plus next year.

One of my pet peeves is when people post in a public forum, then get upset if someone responds. If you don’t want feedback, keep it to yourself.

The word “flagship” has absolutely nothing to do with keyboard size or how easy it will be to use. Nor does the release date. You can either use it or you can’t. Regardless of what you choose to call it, the color of the phone or even the shape of the box it comes in, the keyboard is the size it is and is usable or not. “Flagship” does not change that. People expect a usable keyboard. Even if their phone was released in March. It’s absurd to imply millions of people simply choose to live with a keyboard that’s unusable because they picked a phone in a size that’s right for them.

I don't care about your pet peeves and you continue to fail to make sense or valid points, so at this time I'll just say carry on.

Content is displayed in the gesture area but is covered partially by the gesture bar. Would you consider content covered by a bar to be usable? Personally, I don't.

At this point, it's pretty clear the iPhone Plus will display slightly more content than the X. That's no longer up for debate.

The iPhone X will display the same amount of content horizontally compared to a 4.7" iPhone, even though the X has a slightly wider display.

For me the phone on the right is MUCH more preferable.

So you get a small bezel... still looks a lot better than the notch and for me isn't nearly as annoying.

What was that? Apple wants to give the X uniqueness?

Uniqueness is like animojis... something nobody gives a $*#* about.

I have no problems accepting the opinions of others.

Not sure why you think I would.

But please keep trolling threads attempting to incite arguments by posting stupid #*@&ing responses to posts THAT WEREN'T EVEN ADDRESSED TO YOU.

Troll.

x display is longer portrait. So yes it’s longer.

look at how much smaller the phone on the left is though. ;)
(and arguably, how much better it fits in a user's hand.. and pockets etc)

we can get hung up on screen size.. but let's not forget about the whole package.

very small differences in screens being shown (like, a half sentence more reading could be done on the + before scrolling is what the example basically shows)..
but, very noticeable differences in other aspects.

As a former 7 owner and current 6S Plus user I’m very happy to go back to a smaller phone. Before the 7 I had a 6 Plus and I did not find the transition to be an issue. Now I’ll be getting more screen to boot with the X compared to the 7. Perhaps an iPhone identical to the Plus screen with no more bezel would have been ideal but this is a good alternative IMO.

The X is not a Plus replacement. It's like going from a Note 5 to an S8. Yes, the screen is 0.1 inches bigger, but the experience is much more akin to the smaller series phone than the larger, as far as scaling is concerned. It takes the S8+ or Note 8 (6.2" and 6.3" respectively) to get the experience of the larger device. This means that Plus users will have to wait for the X Plus (or whatever they call it) to get a sufficient X+ experience.

I'm satisfied . . . so satisfied. :D

I mainly use my phone portrait so it’s going to be great.

Yep, when I want to rotate I'll go to the iPad Pro.
