I really don't like the iPhone X screen. I watch a lot of videos on my phone so aspect ratio matters for me and for what I see, videos dont look that well on the X. Also, I dont like the new status bar. Also I think the phone can't show tabs in safari like plus models (its basically considered a 4,7 model)
The only thing I like is the new gestures for app switchers and go home, but its not a must have because 3d touch app switcher on my 6s plus basically do the same thing.
I have had the iPhone X since Friday the 3rd. After 4 days with it now I am not happy with the X screen size coming from the 7 Plus.
As many here probably know the width is the same as the 6, 7 and 8. The marketing pushes it as the X is the largest screen they have made. In reality the actual screen area is smaller than the Plus. Also, since the width is the same as the smaller iPhones the experience is almost exactly like using a smaller iphone and not using a Plus.
From apple:
https://developer.apple.com/ios/human-interface-guidelines/overview/iphone-x/
"In portrait orientation, the width of the display on iPhone X matches the width of the 4.7" displays of iPhone 6, iPhone 7, and iPhone 8. The display on iPhone X, however, is 145pt taller than a 4.7" display, resulting in roughly 20 percent additional vertical space for content."
So many upgraded to the Plus because they wanted the large screen that Android users had enjoyed for so many years. Apple broke sales records once they finally caved and did this. Now they are selling the X as a larger screen phone but it really is not a large screen experience like a Plus.
The advantages of the X are just less scrolling when looking over lists in apps like email or agenda for example. However, viewing actual emails, images and videos side by side next to my 7 Plus everything is smaller and I am right back to the small phone I was trying to get away from.
I am quite certain apple will have an iPhone X Plus next year and there is another reason for us to spend $1500 for the big one next year to upgrade our tiny X screens.
I kept my 7 Plus and did not trade it in so I have 30 days with Verizon to return my X and go back to the 7 Plus. This is now where I am leaning and then waiting for the X Plus next year. If it is $1500 as I fear it may be though I will probably hold off on that until prices come down. No reason a phone with equivalent Android size/quality screen should be $1500 when Android users are buying them for under $900 new.
I do like the FaceID. It works. It is fast. The OLED screen is also nice on the X but then again the 7 Plus screen was also fine. I guess OLED we will gain some runtime as they use less power too and contrast ratio much better (blacker blacks).
On a sidenote, I always have a 2nd phone. For years it was an iphone but 5 years ago I had a Samsung S3. It was ok but iphone much better so 2nd phone went back to iphone. 5 years later I saw the Pixel 2 XL and as a heavy user of google services (gmail, calendar, youtube, google apps) I figured I would try it. Let me say I love this phone. The screen is massive next to the 7 Plus and even more massive next to the X now. Using any google service is so well integrated and you can do so many things that apple simply does not support or is unwilling to support.
Most hardcore apple fans will never try another phone but for those curious about a real pure android with actual OS updates in realtime this is the phone to get. The AI on this phone and assistant is spectacular. Squeeze the phone to get to google assistant and it is useful unlike Siri.
Will the Pixel 2 XL become my primary phone? I am trying to see if I can get off iMessage and use Verizon Messages to text from my ipads like I do now. If that does not work it could be a dealbreaker. If I do get it to work then the iphone just becomes my secondary. I never thought I would even consider using any Android phone as my primary but the Pixel 2 XL is a contender. All Samsung's I passed on as they do not have realtime OS updates or patches. They also force you into their bloatware and are starting to lock down their version of android (i.e. can't map bixby button to google assistant).
Samsung becoming more like Apple and not always doing what is best for the customer first. More worried about business model. Apple I cannot use Spotify, waze or google maps on CarPlay? Why? Because it is bad for apple business but would be good for consumers. Google this isn't the case. All my cars I'll be using the Pixel 2 XL with Android Auto so I can have the apps I really want to use..not the ones that I'm forced to.
