What's weird is that if you consider screen area they are almost the same. The X is 12.79 while Plus is 12.85

12.79 sq in is an optimistic number as well. It doesn't include the notch or the rounded corners. If you discount the notch, ears, and rounded corners, the iPhone X display area is about 12.3 sq in.

Right now too much of the screen is taken up by the safe areas. I think Apple is being cautious at first and wants to see how apps will work.

I think by IOS 12 some of those margins will be reduced.

I love the screen size of my 7+ but it is awful big and gets in the way on my belt a lot. I am hopeful the slightly smaller width will be mostly unnoticeable while the smaller size will make the phone on my belt much less intrusive

Yeah I'm a 7 plus user who is going to the X for the OLED and increased resolution and dot pitch. Camera doesn't thrill me cause i use pin code anyway but its cool i guess. That's the beauty of IUP though, if next year there's a plus X, I get to have it.

Of course it will. It's a higher resolution OLED. Easily the best iPhone screen out there. A .1 inch difference will be the last thing on their minds.

While I enjoy the size, the 7+ width starts killing my hand after a while. Something a little slimmer is appreciated.

I just got my iPhone X case and was surprised to see how much smaller it was in comparison to my 7 Plus. I am willing to try it out. I will have 2 weeks to return it to Apple. If I like it will keep it till the X Plus 2018

I’m so used to the display size (not the whole phone size) of iPhone 7 Plus, and even though I only had the Plus for couple of months,I just cannot stand small screen size of standard iPhones anymore.

So I’m thinking about pre-ordering an iPhone X,I believed the numbers and thought it’s gonna be same screen size but smaller form factor.(perfect)

But now everyone is talking about iPhone X display size being more similar to standard iPhones rather than Plus due to screen ratio, notch etc

Are there other iPhone Plus owners worried about iPhone X display size?
I’d lena towards yes, but the X doesn’t have landscape mode and is slightly smaller (especially with video). So I’d say no.

It won't. After having an iPhone 7 for a year, I was ready to go back to a larger screen and assumed (pre-announcement) that the X would be the answer I was looking for because I love the big screen but am pretty lukewarm with how huge the Plus is.

After seeing the keynote and looking at reactions on this forum, it became immediately clear that the iPhone X was basically a 4.7" phone with some extra room at the top and bottom and that god-awful notch. 5.8" may not be a LIE, but it's certainly misleading - I wanted more usable screen space.

Ordered the 8 Plus and have no regrets.

My thoughts as well.

After physically holding an iPhone X case, it feels small and narrow like a taller 4.7" device. Not quite ideal.

I think a lot of Plus users will be surprised when they actually have one in their hand.

No landscape mode? You mean I can't turn it sideways to watch a movie etc?

I am waiting on mine as well, should be here today or tomorrow. I am interested to see how it compares.

Do you have a reference for this or just your opinion? The Mac Rumors article I attached seemed pretty sure and showed pictures.

Yes, the very link you provided shows a video being played. There are no white bars on the sides. There are plenty of other hands on videos that show the same.

OK I see, they are not necessarily white, they could be dark, but no video in that area.
[doublepost=1507231072][/doublepost]But web pages are white I guess

The iPhone X, in landscape mode, renders webpages with white bars on the sides. Apple’s own website is rendered with these white bars, though a lot of sections have individual colored backgrounds.

[doublepost=1507231199][/doublepost]So going back to the original question, videos and web pages will be a fair amount smaller than on my 7+. Something to consider

This will be a common reaction in the coming weeks. The X sounds good on paper but physically, it's quite a smaller phone, especially due to the unusable notch and ears.
