This will be a common reaction in the coming weeks. The X sounds good on paper but physically, it's quite a smaller phone, especially due to the unusable notch and ears.

It's still good though, not just on paper. It has everything the Plus has from a feature standpoint, just in a more compact slightly smaller design. Just because it is smaller does not make it a lesser phone. Some people are all for that, just like some people prefer the SE size or the 8 size. The constant notion that because the X is smaller makes it not a good phone is comical. I love my 7 Plus, but I don't mind that it's smaller. I'd imagine the features of the X more than make up for a small reduction in size.

As a Plus user, the keyboard size is a big factor. I use Orientation Lock and most of my content is viewed in portrait, especially browsing.

The width of the X is the same as a 4.7" device. The X has safe area margins which further reduce the content area.

For me, it's a big concern.

So you're saying size doesn't matter:).

In my case I watch a fair amount of movies on it as well as web site browsing, so it is a size of screen reduction in exchange for a much smaller phone to carry. A trade off. And as I said, something to consider.

Are there other iPhone Plus owners worried about iPhone X display size?

I'm not worried. A lot.

I know that it will be a bit of a shock going back to a smaller screen but I think, hope, I'll get used to it quickly. I look forward to the smaller dimensions though.

That's totally fair, it's not for everyone. For some people though, it's exactly what they want.

This is something you can only judge when you have it in your hands.

For me, the bezels on the plus just look wrong now so I will be going for the X no matter what.

I'm a plus user and I'm excited for the X. I'm sure it will take time to get used to the smaller size but I'm sure I'll adjust. If there's a plus version next year I might go back.

In videos the screen on the X looks wider than the 4.7 but smaller than the 5.5

I’m also concerned about browsing in landscape (although to be fair I don’t do that often). The white bars on the sides seems like a weird implementation.

What concerns me about the x is you will have to zoom out on video to avoid the notch cutting it off, thus making the video even smaller. I watch a lot of shows on my current plus so that is a pretty big deal to me.

Notch or not, all video will be cut off as the ratio is new. All these new phones will have this problem.

Rotate the home screen on the 7plus.

My apology for not being clear. You can’t rotate the home screen for landscape app selection.

what do you mean the screen doesn't rotate??
what a lame thing is that? and WHY?
are you sure about that?
what's the reason?

I don’t believe they’ll get rid of the notch anytime soon. If they did they would alienate the millions of people who bought the phones with the notch and will kill their resale value. The notch is here for at least another 3 years in my opinion.
I think it will get smaller but i agree, until they get sensors under the screen it will remain.

No split view. Only for Plus models (probably next year).

There are other distracting issues with the X screen. It will have a bar at the bottom of EVERY screen (portrait or landscape) as a proxy for the home button.

Edit: I guess it is possible that Apple implemented a feature to hide this bar while watching videos, looking at images, etc. until the screen is touched. Would this mean that it would be required to first touch the screen, then swipe up to get to the home screen or would it always be active?

now i'm confused..
i didn't mean split view.. what's it got to do with split view?
i thought this meant regarding the screen's rotation when you rotate from portrait to landscape..
can you make things clear to me?

Excuse me but I hate to hear people saying the same thing Over and over: how are the ears not usable? The ears are so usable that they use the status bar icons that otherwise will be obstructing regular screen space. If you're taking off the ears as usable screen then you have to take the status bar space off the iPhone plus usable screen size as well....

Tapping the screen once is huge deal or just the fact that the notch is there? Videos by default will not show the notch apparently.

Probably since even though the display is taller, it's barely wider than a non-plus phone; an aspect ratio that doesn't lend itself to landscape very well.

The ears are unusable because of the notch. A conventional phone has a contiguous display area at the top. The iPhone X forces app developers to use a smaller safe area for displaying content.

If an app displays a photo of a Christmas tree, it cuts off at the top because of the notch. If a game has controls or content on the edge, those items can't be on the edge.

The ears are unusable unless content just so happens to fit in the ears.

Apple's own design guidelines advise against using the ears and the gesture area. The unusable ears are much larger than the status bar of a conventional iPhone.

Did this for myself to help visualize the screen differences a bit better.

yea, it's a tiny bit wider than a 4.7" Iphone,
with it's screen over the old top/bottom bezels design (minus the notch).
