Wow. A little sensitive too.
I get it though. People work hard, they should be free to spend their money as they wish without question or justification. We are all guilty of that being members of this forum! None of this 'stuff' is essential... its our vice that's all.
For me I can't see much between the Ultra 1 and 2, but let's say someone who is a Diver (for example) may find the additional 1000 nits of brightness essential. We all have different levels of justification.
Some just like a little bit of retail therapy because... we all work hard.

Can’t believe they took gold and leather away. Hey apple, just cuz your word of the day is carbon neutrality doesn’t mean we’ve gotta suffer

I’ll be skipping this round of iPhones and watches

The Apple Watch Ultra has never come in gold, so I don't think they took anything away there. The S9 is available in starlight aluminum, and gold stainless steel.

As for leather? That's what's holding you back from upgrading? Apple has every right to use whatever materials they want. You will not have problems finding a 3rd party leather band/case if it's that important to you.

Definitely seeing some shifting in the poll now.
Went from 50.5% choosing one of the Leaning Yes options to 54.5% Leaning No, a 5% shift toward No since the event.

Past tense for me, already ordered the Ultra 2. My brother has a birthday so he will get my Ultra 1 and I will enjoy the Ultra 2. The double tap, better heart rate monitor and on device Siri sealed it for me.
Was the HR sensor upgraded? I remember hearing a rumour but not sure if they actually did it

The website lists "third generation" optical heart sensor, same as it's been since Series 6. I could have sworn they'd said something about an upgraded heart monitor during the presentation, but that may have been wishful thinking.

They didn’t upgrade the optical heart sensor, they said they would use it for the Double Tap feature.

The rumours of that did surprise me, it is already class leading and I would have assumed they will leave any upgrade until a design overhaul. (possibly next year). I thought maybe they might introduce constant monitoring in passive mode like Garmin this year but not the case.

I’m actually adding the U2 to my collection. Even though I have the 8 and U1 I think the speed difference, double finger tap and brightness will be a welcome addition . And i figure since I gave up my Garmin I’ll have my u1 to use while the U2 is charging 😂

For what its worth - watch face is now available on Ultra 1 following latest beta update & pinch controls already exist of course (albeit in accessibility)

The pinch controls exist but not in the same form. Usable but designed for a different use case of course.

One check - U1 vs U2 - do we know if they are the same size exactly or are there differences?

For me, I have a little "bumper guard" on my U1 that both prevents the worst nicks as well as softening that sharp edge (I have a hyperactive toddler who I don't want to catch). Wondering if it will fit the new one if I get it (hopefully I can just lift and drop).

I believe the same size , I’m going to use a extra screen shield I have from my u1

Thanks. This bumper is literally a little ring that goes around the top. Described on amazon where I got it as a titanium alloy frame. I found the screen edges sharp, hence I got it. I think it might have come with a separate screen protector in the box as well.
