I think if the mini has cellular connection, it could replace my iPhone rather than my iPad. But then, the iPhone 5 is so light... I would have to see and hold a mini before I decide. But nothing is going to replace my iPad 3! You'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands!

I would not replace my iPad 3 with a mini. I also read magazines on the iPad, and it is large enough to be usable for that. A mini would be too small. Too much zooming.

I have the Kindle fire from a year ago for dedicated reading, so don't need the mini for that niche.

Weird you feel like that. After using my iPhone 5 I feel a mini iPad would do me just right. Also with the longer screen ratio I seem to be liking better than the squared iPad. My iPhone 5 has spoiled me and made me want the iPad mini even more..

What makes you think the iPad mini will change the screen ratio?

I picked up a Kindle Fire HD and it's covered my 7inch needs for now, all my Books, Magazines, and Music , along with Netflix, Amazon on Deman, and My Plex content in one place. If the Mini gets a retina screen I'd consider one, if not I'd wait a year cause the 1st revision of it most definitly get one.

There is a joke somewhere here i know it.

I will be buying an iPad Mini (assuming it comes out) for my girlfriend for Christmas. I currently have an iPad 2 that I am very happy with. Although, I do not use it enough though to justify making an upgrade.

I absolutely love having it when I go on trips and for work, but I do not use it enough. I wonder if I had the iPad Mini, if I would be willing to carry it around more often.

Once I finish my Master's degree, I am sure I will use it much more often. I don't have much free time between work and school.

Probably. I like the iPad but something easier to hold and more portable (ie fits in my handbag) would be a real winner for me.

If not then I'd say a Kindle Fire HD is in my future, but as I've so much invested in Apple's apps it would be second choice.

I'll just buy the imaginary iPad mini with Monopoly money at the time of this pretend launch. ;)

If such an animal makes its way in to the wild I'll probably buy it for s&g and keep my iPad 3rd gen for primary tablet needs.

This would be terrible.

10" is the right size for being able to use it with one hand (while holding it in the other), use both thumbs comfortably across the screen, and retain a decent weight. 3.5"-5" is the natural size for phones because they can fit in your pocket and go truly anywhere with you. What is the purpose of 7"? When can you carry something 7" but not 10"? Women with a purse perhaps, but in general it seems like just an arbitrary midpoint more based around being a cheaper version of the full device.

While I'd certainly take a mini gladly or buy one if that money had no more needed purpose, don't have any particular want for it.

If I were thinking up iOS devices I'd be interested in.... probably a larger widescreen version that is not meant to be fully portable. Set it next to my PC to play video without bars, use all my nice iOS apps on an ever larger screen, be great for art app/stylus use, etc. Still portable enough to lug around laptop style, but not meant to be used on the go.

Slow charge time is a slight problem with the 3 though, but I'd just wait for the 4.

Depends on the specs. Really hope it will have a retina display, but the smaller form factor is very appealing to me.

I don't have the iPad 3, but I do have the iPad 2. Depending on specs, I may go ahead and sell the iPad 2 and buy the Mini if I feel like it fills the space of a reading device and iPad. If it doesn't have a retina display and/or the specs aren't as appealing as I'd like, then I'll likely keep the iPad 2 and wait for the iPad 4 next year (and hope it is lighter than the 3).

Replace my iPad 3? No way, the only thing that will replace that is the next iPad. However, I may find the mini to be irresistible if they use the same anodised black aluminium as they have on the iP5. I know there have just been leaks to back this up but I don't trust them at all.

Also, if it can fit in the large inside pocket of most of my coats, I will 100% get one. That would be awesome.

So my wishlist is;
-Anodised black aluminium rear shell
-Retina display
-Fits into large pocket

If it meets this criteria, it is a dream product.

My first response, "what sort of dumb question is this?" But I'll be nice and not say that..:p

Almost certainly not. If the price is incredible (Un-Apple-ly) low, say £200-50 I might pick one up. I expect it to be £300, give or take £20/30

The only thing that will get me to trade in my iPad 3 would be a thinner/lighter iPad 4, without the warmer left handside.

It's easy to wax lyrical about Apple product, but the iPad 3 is probably the best piece of tech I've ever owned.

Was pro 7 inch but after getting used to larger tablets I hardly use the 7 inch kindle I have, so no I wouldn't trade in my ipad 3 for the mini, in fact I find myself using the outdated motorola zoom with 4.1 jellybean more than my ipad.

I will keep them all.

They all preform a different job for me. I wouldn't take my ipad3 outside but I will take my Nexus7 out with me.

I'm thinking of selling my 16GB iPad 3 & replacing it with a 32GB refurb from the Apple store. I won a 7 inch Kindle Fire HD, the screen is lovely but the form factor is just too small for me, I gave it to my son, full sized iPad is best for me.

^^^ This !

I had a KF and now a KF-HD and the screen is fine for most things until you take it online as a web browsing device and then the experience falls apart. Steve called it right the first time. The iPad's current form is the happy medium.

Oh boy. Not the "there's only one proper size for the ______________ device" argument again.

With the iPhone it was 4 years of that nonsense before the iPhone 5 came out and all the "3.5in is the ONLY size thats one handed" naysayers ate crow. At least with the Mini then this thinking will be proven wrong within a month.

I have an iPad 3 and I will almost certainly buy an iPad mini and I will almost certainly not sell my iPad 3.

I'd love the iPad mini to carry to work daily to use for stored documents, Keynote and PowerPoint presentations, quick emails, etc. (basically most of what I use my iPad 3 for, but only in a smaller, lighter, more portable package).

Not a huge difference for certain, but when you've got your iPad with you daily it does add up - just like a 13" MBP versus a 13" MBA. Perhaps only a 30% weight/size savings but it's still noticeable.

I'd still use my iPad 3 for daily web surfing and watching movies - I have a Nexus 7 and the screen is a bit too small for comfortable web surfing. OK for movies. Apple's (predicted) 7.8" screen will be a little better for web surfing, but my 43 year old eyes will probably still prefer the iPad 3.

The Ipad 3 is an excellent product and I like the larger screen, infact I wouldnt mind an Ipad XL! make them movies even bigger!

Well you could carry around an iMac, but the extension cord would have to be pretty long. :p
