Hi guys,

Want to share my experience installing W10 in my cMP 2010 5,1 without bootcamp.

TL;DR:
- use W10 1607 ISO.
- do not use USB as there is bootROM corruption issue
- W10 is installed into different storage than the MacOS
- use excellent guide by h9826790 (I skip the BootCamp 5 installation and goes strait to 6)
it will show you how to install version 6.1 of bootcamp so you'll be able to select OS-X from W10.

Some deviation I did from the above instruction:
- Install 7zip manually because the brigadier wouldn't extract the bootcamp package properly as it failed installing the 7zip.
- Skip bootcamp 5 installation, I install version 6 directly
- I'm not using USB for the BootCamp installation, I just use the download folder where the brigadier exe is located.

Due to issue of bootROM corruption by W10 in EFI mode, please do not use USB installation method, follow the guide from h9826790 above until the bootROM corruption issue is resolved.

The issue might 'brick' your cMP

To remove EFI boot menu created by W10 during installation:

Other important information:
- enable / disable SIP

Please note: as informed by h9826790 Recovery Mode can be accessed with non-flash PC GPU as long as it has default driver in the macOS, my GTX 680 works just fine with HighSierra 10.13.6 recovery mode.

My Specs:
Mac Pro 2010 5,1
2xE5620
AMD HD5770 1G (Upgrade to GTX 680 4GB now)
RAM 56GB RDIMM
WDBlue SSD 500GB (MacOS 10.13.6 - APFS file system)
1TB WDBlack (W10)
Apple Bluetooth Keyboard (compact one)
PC mouse

Thanks for your sharing.

For your info.

1) Bootcamp 6.1 can work on cMP, and allow us to select APFS partition as next boot drive.

2) Bless command can work for both EFI / legacy installed Windows, however, you have to bless the correct partition / file

3) Windows 10 doesn't have the driver for Magic mouse, Apple keyboard, Wifi ac / BT 4.0, etc.

4) Bootchamp / Boot Manager etc works (also the terminal bless command), they are all much easier (and most likely faster) then "hold option to boot method"

5) Install Windows 10 in EFI mode may corrupt the cMP's BootROM, which eventually brick the logic board.

Thank you h9826790 for the information.

Will take a look at Bootchamp / Bootmanager as I'm planning to install Jetstream GTX680 4GB so I'll not have boot screen hence using ALT boot will be a bit difficult.

Regarding corrupting cMP BootROM, will it happened right away? Do you know how to fix if it does happened?

A procedure that solves all the problem in the OP's process (and won't risk bricking the Mac Pro) is here:

Thank you PianoPro, the instruction by h9826790 is miles better than mine, I'll linked it in my first post so new reader will be able to find it easier.
